Here's a plus I found one year shortly after acquiring my Steyr-Hahn. I had to take it to a gun show to show it to a gentleman there who dealt in oddball calibers and other items so see if he had the proper clips for it. At the entrance I handed it to the officer who has to clear and zip-tie the weapons. I watched him for a few minutes as he tried to remove the magazine to insert the tie. After a minute or so of holding back my shit eating grin I told him how the pistol functioned.

The only downside of this pistol really is the internal magazine, otherwise fantastic pistol.

If I'm not mistaken, you can also single feed this thing. That is an advantage in situation, where you shoot only a small amount of bullets. This way it can be reloaded faster than revolver and it is also much faster than to take mag from normal pistol and push one or two rounds in there, and than put it back. It should be also considered that this is more than 100 years old design, and in those times, there were many worse designs.

as another comment said, at that time detachable magazines were rare compared to clips. besides the metallurgy, soldiers were used to clips and they weren't trusted much with detachable magazines. it should be remembered that, this was the tail end of magazine cutoff on rifles.

Honestly yeah, as good as the Luger is I'd personally take the Steyr. Mag capacity is the same, 9x23 isn't too different from 9x19 (in this case), the sights are better since the Luger's toggle-action makes them annoying, and the Steyr seems to be much more durable. Plus, if I don't have a clip/magazine? No big deal, just strip a few rounds from a spare MP-40 mag or something and I'm set.

Magnificent pistol. I was asked to replace the extractor on one, and seeing it disassembled I was in awe of its incredible workmanship, fit and finish, and design... Like a rotating barrel? It has it. Grip panels slide in and out in milled grooves, and it takes 5 seconds to disassemble. Good 9mm Steyr caliber, and if it were a box magazine design it would have been IMO, one of the top pistols of WW1. Ahh heck, it is still one of the best of WW1.
