The first? The ONLY games where the legendaries have any kind of problem are: Gen 1 with MewTwo's general hateful attitude toward anything including Mew, but this is not a specific rivalry Gen 3 with Kyogre v Groudon which is explicit about the fact those Pokémon hate eachother and will fight each other Kaiju-style, unless Rayquaza intervenes to airlock their powers and maintain some form of peace. Every other Gen doesn't do this: Gen 2 doesn't suggest any conflict between Ho-Oh and Lugia as far as I am aware; they are pretty much separate legendaries that don't have much to do with each other, and instead serve as leaders of the legendary trios of birds and beasts rather than act as their own proper duo. They don't have any beef between them. Gen 4 aren't opposed to each other, as no conflict is shown between Dialga and Palkia. Someone can correct me if Giratina has beef with Dialga or Palkia, because I haven't played Platinum. Gen 5 are two sides of the same dragon (Yin-Yang allegory), and aren't shown to be in conflict with eachother. Depending on the game version, each of them can merge with Kyurem in Black 2 or White 2. Gen 6 are opposed thematically on the basis of life v death, but it's not apparent that Xerneas or Yveltal hate each other or come into physical battle. Gen 8 are a duo that work together purposefully to prevent catastrophe, they don't fight. Gen 9 are historically related to each other from the past and the future, and they don't fight. Therefore Gen 2 is the first Gen that definitely doesn't show a legendary conflict, and technically even Gen 1.

I had a Decidueye with a decidium Z. thought i could catch ultra necrozma when i first met it with a masterball but i decided to hit it and see if my starter could deal some damage. Needless to say, I didn't expect the ghostly arrow rain (or whatever its' name was) to 1 hit KO. Oops. Good thing I didnt need to capture it.

I'm so confused and mildly annoyed. I've had a 2DS since 2016, but only just now got the ability to use it (I could never afford the games for it on top of the Xbox I had to buy games for to share with my brother). So, here in 2021, I'm trying to figure out what Pokemon game I should play. I figured "Ok, I'll play the newest game in the series that I can." which happened to be Ultra Sun and Moon. But now, aside from hearing that it MIGHT be the worst generation, I'm also seeing this kinda stuff, about how there's differences. When I started Ultra Moon, I KINDA just assumed that the differences between Ultra and Normal were about the same as the differences between Ruby/Sapphire, and Emerald. Or Diamond/Pearl, and Platinum. Minor differences that usually made for an overall better experience. But now I'm seeing that there are actual proper differences. The story is a bit different (and common opinion seems to be that it's better in the original Sun/Moon), but then I'm seeing people say that ULTRA Sun and Moon has more content in general, meaning I'll have more to do and the game will last longer. So I'm kinda torn on which game I should play now. I'm not super far into Ultra Moon, and would be willing to start over if I really felt like the original Sun/Moon would give me a better time. But if it's not that big of a deal, then I'm also fine playing Ultra Moon...

Late but I have a question in ultra sun and moon if you transfer the ultra sun kyurem and Reshiram over to ultra moon that already has a Zekrom and another kyurem can you in theory get both kyurem black and kyurem white or the game dosent allow you to have both fused at the same time? Cause I'm planning on moving all the exclusive legendary from the other game to my Ultra Moon but I wanted to get another copy of necrozma and kyurem..... Cause I'm also moving the spare solgaleo to my Ultra Moon so I get the other necrozma fusion hence why I also transferred the sun necrozma along with solgaleo.

Lusamine is now an antiheroine who despite having good intentions in the ultras, she still has her psychotic behavior and still disowns her children… Gladion’s character arc in the original is about him learning it’s okay to rely on others and ask for help yet he leaves Alola in the end to “get stronger…” Lillie’s Exeggutor island scene is gone and instead of having a fresh start with her mother in Kanto, she stays behind and does nothing… From a gameplay POV, it’s an improvement, but it’s inferior from a story POV.

The Exeggutor Island cutscene still happens, but it's with the fisherman that takes you to the island for some reason. It's something you have to unlock, but I don't remember what the requirements are. It's odd that they took out cutscenes that strengthened the story, yet the game is still cutscene and tutorial heavy.

Since they weren't like Crystal, Emerald, ORAS or anything of the like, I was originally going to dodge them. A newer directors cut could've been Pokemon Z (X&Y), Pokemon Zeta Emerald (ORAS), and maybe one for Sun and Moon. USUM is kind of a pseudo sequel. It's a mix of a director's cut and a sequel in my opinion. We should've gotten Pokemon Z. X&Y were incomplete and had so much hidden away.

Okay here's something people in this comment section don't understand. We love Emerald and Platinum, they're great changes to the originals and have a lot of new content! USUM makes a lot changes that are great for Alola! There's also a few problems but overall they're great games! They follow the "3rd version" format. But UM doesn't have everything Alola has to offer and US doesn't have everything Alola has to offer. The whole point of a third version is to have the best experience of that region. That means having all the content that Region offers. UM has 80% of all Alola has to offer, and if you want that extra 20% you need US. But if you get US you have 80% of the experience, so you still need UM if you want everything. The games are fun and entertaining, but it should be one game.

I can feel you here. Game Freak however seem to have long moved away from single releases though. (the last one was Platinum - 9 years ago!) I think they really want to push the whole version exclusives element of the games so I suspect they'll continue with paired games for the foreseeable future.

Well yeah. That's the problem but it make sense for some reason. In my opinion, I think they did it because of trading which is one of the main thing of Pokemon. So I'm guessig we won't get any 3rd version in Gen 8 because they want us to trade with players either online(which most of us do thanks to GTS or by luck, Wonder Trade) or outside. But I digress. Since Gen 8 will be on the Switch, I do think that they will give us the 3rd version that we want since we can't own two Switches and have two separated versions and give it a trade or we can't switch accounts during gameplay and open another game.

You mention Platinum, but Platinum didn't have everything Sinnoh had to offer. I love Gen IV and I can tell you a decent number of Pokémon were version exclusive to Pearl and Diamond, thus, for the full Sinnoh experience you needed all three games (and arguably all the Gen III games too, for the Pokémon that only appeared when a certain Gen III game was in the game boy slot.) That tallies up to Platinum requiring you to buy 8 games total for the full Sinnoh experience over the 2 or 3 of USUM.

My biggest gripe is, to me at least, the story is just far less interesting and developed with the best part of the original sun and moon was the story between nebby, lillie and lusamine but ultra just muddles with it to the point where it's impact is greatly ruined for me (same with how they no longer put emphasise on looker and Anabel, the fight against kukui being cut, and Lillie going to kanto being replaced with gladion going instead). But then Ultra is better in literally every other way with the photos, ultra space, rainbow rocket, mantine surf, graphics, ultra necrozma fight, poiple, the new z-ring design, harder difficulty, side quests, and enhanced Pokedex. Gen 7 forces you to sit through the story with the unskippable cutscenes no matter what game so it's kind of important to me that I'm getting the story I enjoy the most but I can't without sacrificing a bunch of elements I love in pokemon. My ideal situation would be for it to be a sequal like the johto games are to the kanto games and bw2 is to bw, that way you could have the necrozma stuff, lillie sticking around, rainbow rocket and enhanced pokedex without sacrificing the elements I love from the orignial games. Or alternatively the necrozma stuff being assigned to sun and moon post game with the graphics, mantine surfing and mini games added going into base game.

Because I loved her so much, and -i shipped my character and her- So I was really happy when Gladion was shipped off to Kanto instead of Lillie. And, I'm also upset that we didnt get to see your character's and Lillie's relationship develop that much.. because I loved the scene with you and Lillie hiding from the rain on Exeggutor Island and talking.

I appreciate this 3 year old video. I've had my 2DS since 2016, but only just now starting using it because I couldn't afford games. It seems like Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, albeit flawed, was a game where Masuda and Omori actually listened to criticism and improved Sun and Moon, fixing both its errors and introducing great new features. That's awesome.

I think that's why i prefer ultra sun and moon to the originals, because they're essentially the third version without being advertised as a third version. And even though i loved moon to death when it first came out, ultra moon just feels like a more complete experience to me

You can actually change your eye color in all Sun and Moon games. You can go to the outfit store and then go to the changing room and select color eye lenses or contacts (I forgot the name but it says something eye though) and you can select what eye color you want.
