I am a Japanese. I love this song.This song is really valuable for me. Now that I am a Japanese university student but when I was 18-19,I was "hikikomori" which is a Japanese word and means doing nothing and being always in my room. I was encouraged by this song and I could study hard and pass the entrance examination. Thank you.This song always encourages me.

Calum is a songwriter who happens to be playing instrumental guitar music, that's why he's so good. P.S. Your Lowden sounds luscious. That sustain on the first harmonics. Aaaaah!

Awesome. What I like so much about Calum is that his melody really shine through the rest of what he does. Sometimes I feel like guitarists lose this in complex techniques but Calum's sense of melody always stays dominant over the rest which for me makes it really enjoyable to listen to. And of course the beautiful harmonics that seem to be in most of his songs :D really really dig that intro
@DanTharp10 жыл бұрын
Excellent point, 1Joren. There's way too many "Hey, watch me play fast!" or "Watch me show of my slap/thwack/patty/whack technique....which is impressive, for like maybe 30 seconds, but then the tune isn't memorable. It should be about the music....not the technique....and I have to say I really like what I hear of Calum on this piece. I'll definitely look for more of his music. He's amazing! :)

And damn....those are some incredible nails....I have to say! :)
@PeregrineBF10 жыл бұрын
Dan Tharp The nail style (though not doing it with acrylic nails) is pretty common among classical guitarists. Point the index, middle, and ring fingers, round the thumb, then file, then sand the undersides with 1000 grit sandpaper. Left hand nails and right pinky are kept short.

Beautiful is just not sufficient enough a word to use for this piece. Calum has a brilliant mind to go along with his dexterity and skill. I wonder if he knows how special his gift really is... God gave him an extra dose of something when he was created. This is complication not unlike a fine watch. The closer you look the more obvious the quality.

Nice to hear the 80's Hedges style mixed with a bit of melody. Very good timing / Rhythm. Its also nice that Calum didnt make this song longer then it needed to be, as this is often the sour issue with finger style tunes. Calum says what he needs to say on the instrument then the song is finished. Nicely played on a fine sounding Lowden.

I totally love the relaxed grace with which Calum flows out endlessly inventive developments of melody and rhythm. Such a bold and inspiring talent. Difficult interesting licks, true; but executed with charm and style for their beauty, not as a demonstration of his (admittedly killer) technical ability. I confess that when driving myself to play an open mike night, if I happen to put on Bruce Cockburn or Mark Knopfler or Claum, I feel a little depressed. Why would anyone want to hear my stuff when they could slip in one of many CD's of better writing and far better playing. The audience of course pulls me through it and I do love to play, even though music like this is so, so beyond me.
