As a kid, I only played my electric and always used a pick. I came across Andy McKee in 5th grade and began playing acoustic and eventually began to play fingerstyle. Andy McKee single handedly influenced me as a musician and now all I do is play finger-style acoustic

Same dude... I never looked back once I discovered this man among many others.. I played solo shows a lot as a finger style acoustic player and used a lot of their tunes as covers :) To mention some... Don Ross, Michael Hedges, Antoine Dufour.... list goes on lol

What hardship the real McKee went to. He overcomes it and let his heart sing through guitar. Without Andy mc kee I would not be here now. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels the same. He's Music gives the world hope. Thank you very very much brother. I prefer his music than Tommy Emmanuel .

For some reason (pardon the pun) acoustic guitar gets to my soul more than say, piano, or even vocals. Nothing gets the lump in my throat the way songs like this and For My Father do.

I just love that Andy is at once capable of sculpting these meaningful emotional masterpieces, but also willing to show he doesn't take his work or his music so seriously that he can't have fun. He adds depth to many of his pieces by jumping out of deep introspection and reflection into a sort of dance. You can see what I mean by comparing either side of the 1:05 mark. He shows us almost unrestrained joy for a time and then returns to ponder the deeper aspects of things.

Andy Mckee has gotta be the best songwriter for solo acoustic guitar. His melodies are so unique and interesting and work so well on one instrument even though it sounds like about 3 or 4 guitars being played!

Jose Villegas Yeh he plays great, and Preston Reed as well, but Andy McKee just took their work to another level imo! Especially in terms of songwriting

More talented than his playing abilities, though, are his composition skills. Yes he is a music professor, but still. I can write similar riffs, but i cant come CLOSE to the he layers and transitions in and out of melodies. His technical abilities are also just as sound. Hes quite the amazing song writer, youre right!

Look at his face as he plays. Now there is feeling music and there is this. This is beyond feeling. At this point the music is the entirety of reality for the musician. It's a state any musician can enter. A state of meditation/altered consciousness.

So please share your knowledge to some more apprentices, so there will be more and maby affordabable Greenfield Guitars out there some day. Kind regards from germany, A prospective luthier

Well firstly I just gotta say this is stunningly beautiful work, all around! A lovely composition, played with extreme precision and sublime feeling on a gorgeous-sounding guitar recorded with exceptional audio clarity, and with top-notch filming and editing to boot! Kudos all around! Secondly, I have to wonder how much of this lovely tune was Andy improvising? I've listened to it a bunch and I'm hearing a number of phrases/lines that happen only once in the body of the tune. I especially love the beautiful linear run he makes starting around 0:57 (very "jazzy" if you ask me) that immediately leads to a very different-feeling section, which he hints at again later but not with the same exact style and attack. Also at the break around 2:32 when he stops tempo for those gorgeous open harmonics, these to me feels "suggested" but not "mapped out". Anybody else care to comment on this?
