At last, someone actually demonstrating in a clear manner. Too many cane videos are some guy standing yakking for the duration whilst passing a cane from hand to hand and doing jack with it. Keep doing what you are doing Gary, you are right on the ball.

I’ve practiced this. Watch Master Gary move. The step back is crucial. It buys you distance and an extra split second. Without the step back you will get stabbed. At that attacking range, without stepping back, I imagine there’s a 98% percent chance that knife will stab you before you can effectively strike it down, even if you know it’s coming. I’ve witnessed a stabbing, and the attack was like a lightning strike, multiple times. They were 6-8 straight stabs to the gut and the guy being stabbed never stepped back, just tried to block the knife hand with his hands until he dropped to the ground. Since the knife is coming in a relatively straight line and the cane at an angle or loop, at that distance, the straight line will get to its destination faster. You have to buy yourself some time and clearance to counter the attack.. The beauty of the cane is its reach advantage. If the attacker can’t get past the length of your cane, he can’t stab you unless he’s carrying a sword.

Very good information. This is very helpful and re-assuring information to know. I am especially looking forward to the video in relation to defending a prison style stabbing attack!

Sensei Hernandez As a senior citizen, partially disabled it is my opinion these techniques will not be available. These methods REQUIRE speed and dexterity which we lose as we age. Could they be deployed - maybe? But it is questionable and a miscalculation is disastrous. Surely there is a better more assured way to defend in this type of knife attack.

Yes there is Jay I will work on a video showing a way someone older and with more of a disability can use to defend with. Thank you Gary Hernandez

very interesting and good stuff too, But i do think a good defence against a knife is to hit the head first and keep hitting before the attacker even gets a chance to thrust a knife at you instead of waiting to counter as the distance is in favour of the cane, however i do feel a bit uneasy about the parrying with the cane but as with most things its personal perference looking forward to seeing more....
@elkalabaw76653 жыл бұрын
i pity us left handed people. we cant use these parries.

Hello there are other things that can be done for people with a left hand hold. I will be doing some videos for the left hand person.
@elkalabaw76653 жыл бұрын
@@Savagecane thank you for that, sir. it's kind of frustrating for us "lefties" to watch self defense videos because they are mostly tailored for the right handed majority.
