After Floyd Canelo had an epiphany; realizing he did have vulnerabilities, he started from scratch to engineer the perfect fighting machine. He succeeded.

Great video. A lot of what Canelo does in the ring, is something I enjoy watching. Not a fan, but, I do have fighters I prefer to watch because of the style they use and how they use it. Equally, there's things about Canelo I don't like. That's with every fighter, and Canelo is no exception. Perhaps to some he's the perfect fighter and some comments here prove that. With that said, I cannot expect something from him he simply doesn't possess or has a reason for not doing. The things I don't like: - too many hooks - loads up - abandoned his jab - abandoned his straight right hand - lacks head/waist movement - doesn't pop shot - doesn't throw combinations - doesn't have consistent patience with certain styles - doesn't always adapt - relies too much on counters Things I do like: - not afraid to just throw punches - doesn't care where the punch lands - his adamantium chin and body - punches forearms, arms or shoulders - loves the ropes - head/waist movement when applied - his underrated straight right hand when thrown - his jab when used to land a jab - his power - sticks to game plan - deceptive pressure - faints - parry's - counters What do I mean with all this. For starters, his straight right hand. Doesn't throw it much anymore. The Ryder fight was his last time in a while and since then is when he threw it. Ryders face is proof of how much damage Canelo's right straight can dish out when he actually decides to use it. I wish he used it more often. If we look at Canelo's highlights of his entire career, his straight right takes a good portion of the spotlight. Some of his biggest wins was with a straight right, his biggest rounds scored was with a straight right, the most damage he's put on an opponent was with a straight right, gained respect from a strong opponent was with a straight right. This pours into why I believe its underrated and why he throws too many hooks and not enough jabs to set up the straight right. His jab. He doesn't really throw it to purposely land a jab. He sprinkles some jabs in his fights but only enough we can count on one hand. Canelo is not a jabber. During his GGG fights is when Canelo has thrown the most jabs in his whole career because GGG is a jabber and an elite one at that if you look at his jab stats. So Canelo had to jab a lot with GGG. His other fights, he may throw a couple every other few rounds. He mostly throws a flick jab to land a loaded hook. His head and waist movement has disappeared more and more each fight. I do believe this has to do with his older age and stamina issues. Its not footwork, but its still movement that's taxing on the gas tank. He does have knee issues as well as we have seen him often fight with a knee brace/wrap of some kind. His combinations are nearly non existent. He was a combination fighter at one point where he would just let off combos. As he got older he threw less and less combinations. I believe this also has to do with his age and stamina. Throwing a string of combinations takes a lot of energy. So he's resorted to loaded single shots. His patience with certain styles has shown. His most recent was with Bivol where he picked Bivol up. This also pours into his lack of adapting. He didn't really switch anything up in the Bivol fight that made ppl believe he'd win the fight as the rounds went by. Pop shots, those have never been part of Canelo's arsenal, but I wish it was. The way he defends and counters is perfect for pop shots, but its not part of him. He doesn't think that way nor is he a fighter that's known to punch from various angles or awkward positions. He doesn't know how to leverage his punches that way. He doesn't have fast twitch muscles that allow for that. He's not explosive in that regard nor does he have the stamina or footwork for it. Above all this, Canelo to me along with a few other certain Mexican fighters have embodied the Mexican style in what I believe is more of the Mexican style than what ppl think of today. I notice many ppl refer to the Mexican style as a brawling type style that lacks footwork and defense. I believe that style is simply entertaining and full of purely macho man pride (who can slug until they can't). So I would not count it as a true Mexican style. I believe ppl just adopted it for its entertainment purposes. Salvador Sanchez, Ricardo Lopez, even Chavez, and Canelo don't brawl. They use faints, foot work, defense, head and waist movement. They counter and go to the body effectively. They throw combos. They use their jab. They have power. They can have speed. Timing is a big part of it. Doesn't mean they wont trade shots if they have to as all have proven they will trade if they need to. I've never liked the Mexican style I see commonly used. I just wish Mexican fighters would utilize footwork and defense more. Some of the biggest Mexican names in boxing today do not use footwork, or defense much. Immediately Jaime Munguia comes to mind, The amount of big shots that guy has taken is concerning. Just because you take it, doesn't mean you should. The actual times he's used jabs, faints, defense, and a little footwork is when he's had the biggest success.

And people still call this fight rigged because Kovalev didn't throw enough right power punches 🤦🏽♂️
@utkarsh27463 жыл бұрын
People were so confused by Kovalev not being the Krusher ignoring that Canelo is known for hooks to the body. Stick your elbows out at your own peril.
@theboxingbreakdown55353 жыл бұрын
Hard to do when your getting countered every time. Imo he needed to throw the decoy right hand and then come back with power, that takes a lot of mental discipline tho. Also a strong jab left hook would have at least made things interesting.

You have good points but I think some of the reason you mention he does what he does is incorrect, but it's open to I terpretarion, you still bring light to many things he's doing.

You keep saying he's pushing the action and overreaching, he's fighting a much taller opponent not sure how he is suppose to get in , he's trying to break the rythm and because his opponent is much taller he's doing much of what he's doing.

Let be honest, still better then floyd. Arturo Gatti is the only one Mayweather ever brags about. That's it Gatti, that's all he's got. CANELO GOAT has so many more fights, challengers, and unified a whole division. Plus the added bonus he has KO power.
