6 rules I follow for kanabo, bokuto, and cane combat: 1: never telegraph unless it's a feint. Flourishing and spinning counts as telegraphing unless it is simply shifting one's grip on the cane or staff or for fun/ to practice dextarity. 2: defending yourself with a cane is like defending yourself with a wooden sword equipped with a hook for a guard or a hammerhead pommel. Use all aspects of your walking aid to your advantage. 3: take out the foundation for a sturdy stance first, then move to the joint areas second. Do that, and they crumble like a poorly built house. 4: using a " half swording" or battering ram esque techniques only works if you aim to push through them with the blow. Similarly, aim like your chopping wood with an axe or driving a spike with a maul... i.e.: like your going through your opponent. 5: about 4 feet of distance between combatants now means years worth of distance from death or injury later. 6: by hook or by crook, win by making them yield, go unconcious or run/ shamble the " funk" away.

Great principles! Get off the midline as you are striking or deflecting. Staying on the midline gives the edge to the stronger, quicker individual!

the only issue i have is Sensei has good mobility. i use a cane now because my mobility is poo. perhaps Sensei can address some of techniques for mobility impaired folks. other than that, awesome!
