@jonwofr5 ай бұрын
Canggu is like a theme park. It's super convenient, you have all the variety in terms of food that you could dream of. There is lots to do and many people to meet. However, in my opinion it's only great for a while and after some time it's sickening because you'll see through the facade and notice all the things that are terribly messed up. Basically, it's only a theme park for foreigners where most locals can't afford to live, eat anymore due to the rent and restaurant prices being really high (relatively speaking). Locals are only there as servants. Additionally, albeit being convenient to only use English it's a shame that many foreigners who live there long term do not learn Indonesian. How can someone say their home is Bali without knowing the official language of the country? Canggu is by far the most unauthentic and twisted place that I know. So for everyone considering moving to Bali long term please don't get stuck in Canggu and try to learn the language.
@JooseTheNomad5 ай бұрын
@@jonwofr where did you get this idea about locals not being able to eat/live anymore?
@multa70535 ай бұрын
@@JooseTheNomad Hmm, I understand what he's talking about although I was hanging out with locals due to a friend who's a native speaker. Could locals afford to eat in the places? Yes. But were there many? No, definitely not. Same as in many other touristy places in Thailand. Can they afford it? Yeah. But you'll not see many. Then we went to much more local places and it was like 70-80% locals. Prices were a bit cheaper but not too much. Very, very crowded but only locals. Locals are skipping the touristy places. The less fancy the more locals generally. At least that's my experience in many places in southeast asia. Doesn't mean it's dirty, disgusting or anything. Just less wannabe.
@JooseTheNomad5 ай бұрын
@@multa7053 yeah I have got to know many locals during my time in Bali and mostly they don't even like the food in touristy cafes. They just wanna eat the local food in local places, I don't think having more foreigners change that in any way😅
@jonwofr5 ай бұрын
@@JooseTheNomad The cost of living in Canggu is crazy with rents in simple guesthouses or local apartments being 6 million plus. However, most locals like waiters/waitresses in the fancy cafés only earn something between 3 to 5 million per month for full-time work. So for them its near impossible to keep living there. I have lived in Canggu myself for more than a year on and off and stayed in guesthouses with locals. However, due to our landlord raising the rent every couple of months because of an ongoing demand from foreigners many locals where more or less not able to afford the rent anymore and had to move elsewhere. I mean this problem is not new, it's happening in a lot of places worldwide, Lisbon, Barcelona to name a few. I still enjoy going to Canggu every now and then but for living constantly I personally just feel weird in an environment where only people lucky enough to be born in richer countries can live. For me, after having lived there for a year I began to realize that the vibe is kinda off.

@@Jesse-ce8ti Quick tips when BnB searching, ask the following: is there any construction (don’t use words like nearby…leave it open-ended), ask the WiFi speed, ask if there’s a dedicated router to the home, and how far it is from a main road. If you can master finding the right homes, Bali is the best place to be in the world …fail at that and you will have a difficult time!
@mgriff03095 ай бұрын
Also! If you notice only a couple of reviews or no reviews …be very suspicious. The airbnb hosts here are constantly recycling airbnb profiles and using fake reviews (same with the restaurants!). Going with Superhost sis very safe, that cannot be faked and you lose the status for a year if you fuck around (I’m also an airbnb Superhost in NYC). Hosts that have many reviews (like 50-100+) will be better and there will be less hidden issues. Extremely important. Good video idea Joose !

Quick advise for the people reading the comment section. If you want to see the real Bali, dont go to west cost such as canggu, kuta, seminyat, perenanan and etc. Go east coast and northern part of the island. If you want to have mediocre, expensive and luxurious stay in Bali, you can do it in your own country as well.

I've been in Canggu for 30 days in June this year, it's a sh|t hole. Surfing on that beach? why don't you show all of the sewer that goes directly in the ocean? Open septics all over, rats size of female cat, horrible smell on every street and salmonella on every corner. The whole Canggu is dirty, basically India on steroids. And self claimed instagram models walking around with their dirty feet, like in Mad Max movie. And if you want to have European standard and quality , you will spend more money than for example in Norway(one of the most expensive countries in EU). Thanks to "social media influencers"my expectations were really high when I came to Bali, and I've been looking for that promised paradise and walking around Canggu for hours and I realized it's more like Bangladesh or India.
