Canine Officer Axel earns Medal of Valor

American Legion 510 presented Lawrence Police Department Canine Officer, Axel, the Medal of Valor for his service in the military and in the Lawrence Community. Axel's handler and fellow LPD Officer Matt Hickey accepted the commendations on Axel's behalf.

I want to thank you for your dedication to these men and women who put their lives on the line for us. My brother served proudly in the Army in Vietnam 1968-1969. He was one of the lucky ones who came home with physical disabilities but lasting mental nightmares to this day. Thank you again and God bless you and our military. 😊❤️🙏🏼🇺🇸

What an amazing dog. GSDs are amazing dogs anyway but Axel is outstanding...tough as nails in his military service and as a drugs detector but soft and affectionate when it comes to PR❤
