As a retired chronic user (even before the era of these super high potency varieties), i can honestly say I’d no longer be a casual proponent of its “harmlessness” Sure, It had a “helpful” time & place in my life (for probably far too long though) & i can practically guarantee it didn’t make me any smarter. Giving it up has brought no regrets & several benefits.

There's no such thing as a "harmless" anything, I think. You have to know what you're doing and why. Weed is _better_ - _on average_ - than alternatives like cigarettes and alcohol, but it _still has risks._ Know yourself, know your weed, and make a smart decision about it - and for you, you probably made the right call.

@@shimrrashai-rc8fq agreed, there’s always a trade off. Benefits outweighing harms makes use far more justifiable. That’s a much harder argument with booze or tobacco. I used to be a big time stoner... it exacerbated my anxiety that I could otherwise overcome by just being sober. It caused me to waste a significant portion of my life and changed my trajectory. I used to have excellent memory, was a decent speller and didn't struggle with basic math. After allowing myself to get sucked into the stoner lifestyle and getting stoned daily for years, that area of my brain has essentially atrophied. It's sad. It may be ok in small doses, but it's certainly dangerous on multiple levels to be getting stoned out of your mind regularly.

The beautiful thing about our bodies and our brains is that they can regenerate, and they regenerate even faster when we push that area through use. Start doing math problems every day, start writing. Any damage you may have done through cannabis can be recovered. Maybe even start taking an all natural nootropic like Alpha Brain.

As the other commenter said, the "damage" is reversible, moreover I think that you being anxious doesn't help in rationally and objectively understanding your potentials and makes you more pessimistic. I think it's not the weed necessarily that "damaged" you , but lack of exercise. As you've put it, some aspects of your psyche have atrophied but as is the case with muscles, if you work on it, it will get stronger. So it's your lifestyle that pushed you back but if you change the lifestyle the capacities would slowly get back. Moreover, don't be overly perfectionistic, if you cannot solve a difficult task, that's not a big deal you'll get it right at some point.

I’ve never been addicted to cannabis per se but I’ve gone through brief chapters of life where I enjoy using it until the tolerance sets in and it becomes too difficult to get the right effect. Chasing the dragon, if you will. The thing i noticed that was the most detrimental effect is loss of motivation to do productive things, like working, exercise and especially cardio. This leads to weight gain and loss of strength, non-positive feelings which I suppose are tantamount to depression.

I think Huberman is taking a big risk here. If he is wrong, he could be unnecessarily creating the very thing he's trying to prevent. By putting out the message that marijuana causes schizophrenia he is causing a great deal of paranoia in the very population he is trying to prevent it in...And worst of all, there's no solid evidence to point to it being CAUSITIVE of mental disorder. He points to info on a new rise in homeless schizophrenia which HE suspects could be caused by high THC marijuana use...BUT IF THIS IS THE CASE, where is the signal from the multitude of other populations who engage in high amounts of marijuana use? EG where are all the schizophrenic rappers and marijuana farmers? I'm not saying there's no reason for concern here, but I'm pretty sure Huberman is being irresponsible in how he is going about this.

Long term cannabis user, quit this year and so happy I did. I wish I could 'take 2.5mg nightly' but the problem is, it doesn't work that way for my body. I'm disciplined, mindful, and have not been able to over ride the dependency factory. After a few days the 2.5mg does nothing, then I'd have to double that dose. After a week or so my body is now dependent on the doubled dose and it doesn't really provide the effects except eliminating the withdrawal feelings. So I have to up the dose again. On and on till it's dosing every couple hours through out the day every day all day so I can even function or feel normal let alone the benefits from it. I've quit so many times and tried to be a healthy user, but for me I have finally accepted it is not possible.

Damn im really diving deep into those kind of videos, as an 23 year old cannabis patient i can draw so much knowledge out. Of course i initially became interested in cannabis as an therapeutic due to me liking the hedonistic use aswell, but today about 4 years into the therapy (yes i was 19 when i started and was on heavy opioids) i feel like the negatives are crippling up on me. What makes it complicated for me is that the lets say Performance niveau im working on today (for somebody with conic pain prothesis und trauma) only became possible for me because with cannabis i got a way to manage my pain better, for example make my pain(time) profile, since i suffer from fluctuating cramps an nerve pain for exapmple, more suitable for university. For example, I have been able to successfully pursue my psychology degree for four years. My original assumption was that the negative aspects of cannabis are caused by the attitude with which I approach the use and therefore as a patient with an actually good reason to use, I feel less of these negative aspects on a psychological level, despite all this I notice how the negative aspects accumulate bit by bit and I'm just not sure whether they might have a completely different reason or I need to regulate my use further down but then I'm faced with the question of how to deal with the pain in the future.

as a Cannabis user myself who uses it self manage certain autistic/neuro-divergent traits I can relate to your story. I quite honestly have disliked any type of drugs or alcohol but cannabis changed me. It showed me that even I can can relax and be social. Under the right circumstances with the right Sativa strain I was much calmer. The problem with Cannabis is that it can for sure act like an addictive substance. If you can control your urges and live a healthy and structured life than I see nothing wrong with using Cannabis or CBD variants to manage symptoms or ease pain. If you start NEEDING it on a daily basis than you know its masking certain issues.

I believe most of the glorification just comes from the experienced messaging the non-experienced about non-ordinary states of consciousness. Having a conversation about drugs with someone who’s never used them makes you feel like you’re talking to a virgin about sex. It’s baffling how much they’re missing out. Just saying that’s the other end of a radical spectrum, drugs DO destroy lives. What we need is education to make an informed decision, and I’m so happy there’s content like this widely available.

Smoked for several years starting in my teens. Stopped for over decade. Recently tried out an 1/8th. Honestly, the first joint generated an interesting perspective shift allowing some introspective thinking, but overall it made me agitated and jittery whilst sapping energy (I slept for 10 hours each night as opposed to 7.5). I usually wake up annoyed at life, but I was waking up feeling gratitude for just being clear headed again. There's no way I could do it as a regular thing again or even socially. In its current format it's closer to a psychedelic than a recreational substance, and as such should be treated that way and used very sparingly for a specific purpose.

I think when it comes to any substance, plant, extract, molecule, anything. It's always wise to remember individual responses will always have particular nuance even outside the general awareness, and cultural stereotypes. The cannabis now is much more potent than when I was younger (maybe fortunately) but I've found if I'm doing dabs or bongs (which I don't do for this reason) I tend to feel like I've just been sucker punched and lose all ability. I personally smoke joints, to increase verbal fluidity, to reduce metabolic input lag which increase propioception and kinesthesia, to reduce myositis and various pain/nerve related issues, increase muscle mind connection, gut brain axis connection, reduce insomnia etc. It is a medicine for a lot of people and the risks are shadowed by the rewards especially compared to alternatives. Tim does have valid points on potency but something tells me his individual chemical make up means any more than a microdose is unviable for him where as others have to take pretty large doses before they see any remission in symptoms of which they use the cannabis for.

From my personal experience, I have a few discrepancies; I've for sure had reactions to even 10mg CBD tincture, especially in terms of restfulness in the morning. I've also felt "stoned" (slightly) from CBD tincture, as well as gotten the munchies. Once I dabbed a CBD strain, and I got very stoned, not as much as a regular dab, but it got me pretty damn ripped. For THC; I've been smoking flower for 25 years or so, and honestly it was pretty strong back then, too, at least on the West Coast. The difference between 18% or 28% can be less than you think. They both can get you absolutely ripped off a single bong hit if your tolerance is low (like mine). That might be where terpenes come in to play. I've certainly found that if something smells great, it will make you feel great, and terpenes carry all those beautiful aromas.

Low dose is great. I mix 2-1 ratio of CBD to THC. The THC flower is max 20% strength. The CBD flower is minimum 20% strength. Mainly use it for pain management. But depending on my blend I can garner focus or relax. I also do it before lifting to keep pain low and focus on the lifts. But I have massive respect for the plant. It is a mild psychedelic, hence why I avoid strong THC strains. Also focus more on terps that are good for pain or for relaxing. I can totally understand why high dose thc can be a problem. It really is a mind warping chemical. If that’s your thing, cool. But for me I learned to treat higher dose THC as a psychedelic and thus set and setting are key.

I had to go back to the dealers area to return the stuff I bought first as it was inflaming my throat (very likely due to poor quality) then I got some new stuff here in return which is almost as bad as the first stuff I got. I envy those who are allowed to purchase legal and pure quality weed. Usually I try to avoid the bottom grade stuff, but the quality hash has been disappearing it seems. I'm bummed out that we have to settle for low quality maybe even adulterated weed.

I eventually quit after 30 years of smoking Pot and I would notice that when imbibing in it regularly I would suddenly have problems going to sleep and get anxious after running out or while things were dry. I've also noticed no shortage of Potheads who would let the smallest things bother them to no end when they had no Pot to smoke. I'm not saying it should be illegal but Iam saying people wrongly assume it to be harmless and far too many start getting high far too soon in life instead of waiting until they are established adults to try it. Another thing I can say for sure is it sets off those prone to Schizophrenia, Schizzoeffective Disorder and Bipolar.

I am a 70 year old white male and I use cannabis once every 3 days in tincture form. I mix .25 mg of 100% THC plus .25 mg of 1:1 THC to CBD. It usually takes 45 minutes to 1 hour to kick in. I then experience a very pleasant high usually for about 3 to 4 hours. This is when I tend to exchange texts with various friends and I find the THC high enlivens our conversations and I get more enjoyment out of them. I never drive when I am under the influence of THC. If I have to leave my house I call an Uber. I find that I sleep very well after I use this mixture and wake up the next morning with no hangover or after affects of any kind. That’s the advantage of using cannabis vs. alcohol. I want to experiment with mixing in a micro dose of a psychedelic like psilocybin with my cannabis mixture but I’m not sure if that’s advisable. I have never ingested a psychedelic before.

In sweden 15 years ago i dont think its super strong, but often we get hasch easier depending on factors. My dad started earlier then me, and never stopped. He had ADHD and later in life became scizophrenic and well, details. He recently passed and i coped with started smoking again. 2.5 g everyday i think. Restocked alot for 1,5 months. Its like you cant stop. I become tolerant so quick, i only smoke by myself well the times i do. Am i predisposed to mental illness because of this? Thankful for anything at all, opinions, knowledge. I wonder how much ones environment and perspective/opion of cannabis affects ones experience of cannabis? In the case of heavy metal music - it can relax those who enjoy metal but can intimidate those that do not. Much like with classic psychedelics, ones state going into the experience can have a large effect on the experience itself. If one believes cannabis is for lazy people and that it will make you lazy then it is more likely to do so. On the contrary, if you get rid of any prior dogma or stereotypes and just listen to your body, cannabis can bring about boosts of energy or creativity but these positive effects can be easily overpowered by the mind. Just some food for thought.

I'm 62 and have been smoking pot almost every day for about a year. I feel great and love it. It's much better than drinking. I usually do glass bong hits and dabbing with my Peak Erig. I haven't had alcohol for over a year and I'm not on any medications and am in good health. About once every two weeks, I'll get truly stoned, but usually, I only smoke enough to get a mild buzz in the evening, after 5pm. - One tenth of a gram of dab. I think certain people have addictive personalities and that causes problems with any substance, be it drinking, pot, meth, drugs, pain killers, prescriptions, etc. It's wrong to vilify marijuana and single it out, especially when the real killers - cigarettes and alcohol - are sold everywhere and encouraged. So, if you're like 95% of the population and do not have an addiction gene and if you have a normal amount of will power, go ahead and light up and enjoy. Just be responsible.

@@iddicted That is completely dosage dependent. If you have psychosis from weed that isn't temporary then you either abused the shit out of it or had bad mental health and dormant psychosis to begin with. When a drug is more potent, you simply take less. Lower potency drugs almost always feel less 'clean' and have more side effects. As for "balancing", that's not really an accurate assessment overall. It doesn't merely 'balance'; it literally counteracts. Both of these drugs counteract each so maybe ya you can call it balancing but that's not necessarily a good thing. They are competitive agonists at the same receptor and as I stated before; THC has plenty of positive and even medicinal effects (antidepressant, anti-anxiety, anti-dementia, etc.) that will be toned down if not almost entirely eliminated by CBD and vice versa. THC has its own anxiolytic effects too, not just CBD and evidence shows that THC is anxiolytic in low doses but anxiogenic in moderate to high doses so again, dosage dependent. And it's also known to cause depression and aging of the brain (dementia) when used too heavily too so THC really does the opposite of what it's 'supposed to do' when misused.

This is commonly known about in the mental health wards, the outcome for schizophrenia is low because ultimately they end up taking their lives or accidentally overdosing on other things. To drown out the voices. Interestingly- it’s is young men, late teens to early 20s. But what wasn’t mentioned here is that women in late 30s are at higher risk too. I’m extremely careful now I’m in this bracket, and clearly it’s in my genes. It breaks my heart to imagine all the gravestones and people who have gone out this way. The problem with a lot of moderrn cannabis is that is being bred for high THC and unfortunately the other cannibinoids are being bred out. This isnt always the case but if you look at the values there is often just very litte percentage or cbd, cbn, cbc, cbgs. Fortunately there is the market now for the high cbd and C cannibinoids lol. I feel some of that modern cannabis loses that entourage effect in pursuit of How High. So the link between high THC being the Pyscho active cannibinoid and mental illness makes total sense looking at it.

I smoked weed for the first time when I was 14. Started heavily smoking for a few years and then I developed an anxiety disorder from it. Some people will argue “well it was predisposition, weed just brought it to light” no… it was because of marijuana use at a very young age. Now as an adult male with a fully developed brain I can’t take even a little amount of thc without having a psychotic break. There’s most likely a major problem with using marijuana before your brain fully develops. I don’t know how you could run scientific tests about adolescent use but if I could go back in time I would. I’d never use marijuana that young

Check hubermans episode on cannabis. I’m no scientist but the study on gray matter thinning in underdeveloped brain showed that chronic use almost doubled the rate of loss of gray matter in prefrontal cortex. Other studies have shown almost a 4x likelihood of psychosis also (with teens and young adults under 25) that never go away. And schizophrenia like symptoms in chronic long term users

It's just ridiculous to be so willfully ignorant about what the zero carbon is supposed to achieve here, let me give you a clue it is not for the environment and do please remember you are a carbon creature! Stop all the bullshit and start to focus on what's really happening here can we please! I'm sick of all these stupid topics being discussed whilst all the above is blatantly being carried out and let's not forget the pharma for profit and CERTAINLY NOT HEALTH cause healthy people don't bring money into the coffers and to pretend anything else at this stage is either delusional or willful ignorance.
