It's been 6 months now since I quit smoking weed and it's been one of the best choices I've made so far -- on my personal development journey. I've smoked weed close to a decade, I enjoyed it and have nothing against it's use because it did help me pass through awful experiences. I'd realized, after quitting, that whatever I was distracting myself from was still waiting for me to come solve it. **EDIT (28/05/2023): after scrolling through the comments 1. Some of the stoners feel offended like I'm attacking them or something. I'm not. The reason why you feel attacked is probably why you need to reflect on your life. 2. To everyone on this journey or thinking of quitting. I appreciate the love and the insights, THANK YOU! Let's not rest until we see success, I wish you the best!

i stopped smoking weed a month ago. used to smoke daily for 6 years. My mind is clearer than it’s ever been, my memory is improving, my breathing has improved dramatically. i was using cannabis as a negative coping mechanism for my emotional dysregulation issues. now im using positive mechanisms and learning about who i am as a young adult. i don’t think weed is inherently bad but if you’re like me, in your early 20’s and you’ve been smoking since your teens i highly reccomend stopping for at least a few months just to see how you feel and who you are right now.

Me and my mates were smoking 🍃 x amount of times a week. One day we decided to quit which must’ve been a short term thing for them but I took it as a long term thing. About over 6 months later I’ve still quit and my friends went back to it within the first month of quitting. When I see them they seemed so drained, lack of motivation & using it as a escape from their lives and today I have so much energy, my mind is clear and I am the healthiest I’ve ever been. I used to say everyone should smoke it, but now I realise not everyone should have it.

My experience goes like this, Started smoking pot with a friend then he introduced me to bong and I was ecstatic! Enjoyed the experience a lot, enjoyed everything about it! Started smoking quite frequently with friends, then solo weed smoking sessions started all by myself. While working, while binge watching shows, while doing anything I would smoke up. It gave me Euphoria and anxiety as well(anxiety was manageable). This went on for a couple of years. Some stressful situations happened in my life and my anxiety got out of control whenever I smoked. Used to smoke often to make sure if weed was the reason and I knew one thing for sure weed amplified my anxiety every time. I got CHS, CIS during my regular heavy smoking phase. Was quite fed up with weed and wanted to get rid of anxiety for good and that became a huge motivation factor and I’ve quit it for 3 months now. Feeling nice! No temptation to smoke at all!

I quit 6 months ago after smoking, vaping, and eating edibles for over 50 years. It just got to a point that everything I did, I had to be high first. I realized after I was straight for a couple of months that life was still the same. Funny movies were still funny. Delicious food and snacks, still delicious And since I spent the better part of my life stoned, this new outlook on life is pretty weird and awesome too. It's like I'm on a different buzz, but it's free, and causes me zero hassle.

I didn't think movies, food, talking to friends, etc. would hold any interest for me. But they're better now, because I'm not in a constant fog of thinking about a dozen other things while I do them. The new outlook is from feeling like I'm on some new kind of drug, because I was high for so many years being straight is completely new to me. I'm not depressed all the time like I was. I don't grind over things as much, if at all really. I feel like I gained about 20 IQ points, because my problem solving skills are much more efficient now. Here’s my thing, in my mid 30s now, began at 21. I think 21 was an unintentionally good time to begin, maybe too young by science standards but not 13 either. Smoking a single bowl at night cannot and should not be equated to somebody smoking throughout the day, doing dabs or high thc % concentrates via edibles or back to dabs. Context is very important in the discussion. It is habit forming but considering all the problems in the world, our day to day lives, a couple hits of weed IMO is a life enhancer. Doesn’t mean that a performance enhancer can’t be abused either. Mental state, diet, physical fitness all apart of the picture too. Use responsibly, be aware of your routine with the plant. Be intentional and don’t “numb” yourself with thc. End rant. Much love y’all.

@Wavygravvy
@Wavygravvy Жыл бұрын
@@micaylapresley I guess my comment about “numbing” was more of a phrase. Can weed act as a “numbing” agent? I guess depending on the strain but maybe more so the mind state the user is going into getting high with. We all know, thc can be wildly thought provoking. I do know some who smoke, dab, edible their way to get through the day. At that point of usage, the question of what is the true intention of thc ingestion at that rate doing for the user, and what is the point of too much of a good thing. A family member of mine began smoking at 13-14 and now almost 40, he seldom if ever uses. He said looking back, he was just in a cloud smoking all day everyday with no real direction or intention, just getting high to distract from his life and provide some kind of inspiration. Seems like the younger the user, the side effects become amplified as time goes on.

Love it like your baby and it will heal. Cancers of all sorts are our body’s signals that we have underlying emotional dissonance or something that we haven’t addressed, and it manifests through accumulation of unhealthy disfunctional cells in our body. There is a lot of evidence in support of this. Your cancer is not trying to kill you, thinking that it does creates more damage than the cancer itself. Your cancer is trying to bring your attention to yourself, it’s trying to get you to be more compassionate towards yourself. So try this… sit down every morning, close your eyes, relax, and think of something you love effortlessly (your kid/your dog). Once you feel the love in your heart focus your attention on your cancer. Realise in this moment that it’s a part of you. You grew it. It’s yours. Think of it as a baby. Love it. Accept it. Be grateful for it because it’s trying to tell you something. Spend some time every morning doing this and you will see that overtime it will heal. Obviously you have to do other things that show your body you love yourself like physical exercise and healthy food, but the most important thing you can do to heal cancer is to accept it and love it. I healed this way and I believe everyone can.

In my 23 years of experience with cannabis, I have found that when I completely cut out sugar and most carbs from diet and have the strains that suit my health condition (which are hard to find in the uk), all my anxiety and paranoia, including social anxiety, virtually disappears. I experienced this for a year, then fell off and went back to sugar > got really sick including huge levels of anxiety again, at times leading to panic attacks. I managed to cut out sugar, caffeine, alcohol and all of the pharmaceuticals that I was once dependent on. For me, sugar is the key in my anxiety levels, however, I am ready to have a long break of at least 3-6 months and may well quit for good. Cannabis has been a huge ally for me, but I am also aware of how it has held me back over the years. I’m really looking forward to getting to know myself without it. Edit: I appreciate the comments. Between sugar and cannabis, sugar is the demon. When I say canna is an ally that has held me back, what I mean is, canna has always been a good friend to me, I just haven’t been the best of friends to her. I have unconsciously used and abused her at times over the years, which is why I want a break, until I know that I can properly relate and fully appreciate.. Also, our addictions and dependencies to things, to people, and to ways of being are always going to be a personal journey of finding balance with what aims to heal but can often help too much, to the point within which we feel unable to stop harming ourselves or others with this treatment, all with the intention to find some peace in this abrasive and equally beautiful world we live. At the end of the day, whether we realise it or not, we’re all trying to find harmony in a world where everything is polarised. This is our ultimate response-ability.

On my own journey with cannabis I figured out that it's just too good at comforting people in shitty situations, and the lack of extreme physical downsides and psychological addictiveness is a powerful allure for people struggling. While it absolutely kept me going through some rough times, it also kept me from progressing like I needed to. Anymore I keep my consumption of it sparingly at most, and have no plans to use it more often than I do until I am far more established in life. For people that have already achieved milestone goals (a family, a home, a career or wealth enough that work isn't necessary) it's a fine drug to use on a more frequent basis but still within moderation. For those suffering from severe pain, psychological trauma like PTSD or CPTSD, or some other noteworthy medical issues like glaucoma or high blood pressure it can be a good replacement for more conventional medicines with fewer side effects and the gain outweighs what is lost. It's so obviously beneficial to cancer patients I shouldn't even have to mention it but still will. But if someone is otherwise healthy and just struggling through the obstacles life presents them, they shouldn't rely on the drug as a crutch. You're supposed to be sad, upset, hurt, and have to overcome adversity in life. That's how you grow. And weed is just really good at making you comfortable wherever you are with whatever negatives on your life you're facing which can make it an ultimately harmful substance to use. TL;DR - Southpark was right. Again. If you're gonna smoke, keep it to a schedule at the most where you give yourself a few days or a week off inbetween uses. That way you still get the relief it provides without having it so often you begin to rely on it and devolve or stop progressing from your current place in life.

100% right. That's the problem with drugs in general- it takes away your motivation. Sometimes you need to be angry, sad, annoyed- to motivate you to better your situation. Sometimes its helpful to use cannabis because you get too frustrated. It's all about balance and not over doing it. If you can't quit and go for a while without it at any time then you are over doing it.

I have ADHD and I'm 55 and it has helped me so much over the past 2 years. Most of my adult life, I lost dozens of jobs due to my lack of focus. I've been taking THC now for about 2 years and I take 5-7 small hits on a vap through out the entire day. I have been very disciplined taking it and my work has been better than it ever has been. I renovate mobil homes full time and use power tools and drive an E- Bike and never cut my finger off or fell of a powered bike zipping 30mph all around town! Lol. The high amount of stress and anxiety that I would experience normally, is virtually gone when I'm "slightly" high. This is the key, to take a very small controlled amount, NOT smoking a whole joint in one setting! This, I believe is why THC has a bad rap, because people ABUSE IT. It's like any drug, you take too much and you will have problems. I have also written my first serious feature screenplay that has been praised by many who work professionally in screenwriting, and I am simply in the zone when taking THC. Working on my second one now, and I have also produced my first feature on Amazon Prime, which is my LSD/Redemption Story, and my children are the stars in it. I hate to say it, yet the truth was the warning turned out true for me and many I knew. Alcohol and cannabis can in fact be gateway drugs. (2 paths: seeking higher highs, or criminality: access to drugs that are new to you). That is also one of the strongest args for cannabis being legal. So you can delineate the drug from direct criminal enterprise (then tax the product and shunt tax dollars into substance abuse programs). You can't buy dirty coke or dirty pills at a legal marijuanna dispensary. Using any drugs(and especially to excess) before the age of 24 is perhaps an incorrect decision. Everyone says 18+, which is the legality arg, yet the average human mind is not fully formed until around the age of 24. And yes: weed is addictive. Physically and psychologically. Especially if you are smoking 25%+ thc level weed, and to excess. Some of the weed I used to smoke would be stronger than a hit of lsd if I smoked it right now(with almost zero thc tolerance). Weed can be a really powerful drug. Respect the plant.

Recently quit smoking pot after 10+ years. Before quitting I hadn’t skipped a day, and I would smoke easily an oz. Per week if not more when I could afford to. I just wasn’t getting the satisfaction anymore and I was beginning to feel like it was possibly the root of some of my unhappiness and depression, or at least a contributing factor to it. So far a little over two weeks into quitting and I feel better. At the very least I’m able to try and apply for jobs that previously were inaccessible to me. I definitely think it’s more than just that though. I’m trying to cultivate some new hobbies and get out more. For the longest time my only hobby was smoking pot and I feel like I just couldn’t remember who I was or what used to bring me joy and satisfaction before smoking. I’m still trying to find myself again but I’ve noticed the work day seems to go by faster, and smoother. I also notice that I’m less depressed and things that used to set me off and make me angry, frustrated, or sometimes downright nasty just don’t seem to upset me as much as they used to. I honestly thought it would be awful but I’m definitely glad I made the jump. I had a ton of self doubt about my ability to get over what definitely was a serious addiction, but I haven’t been feeling that itch or urge to smoke nearly as much as I expected. I think it’s tied to the fact that it just wasn’t getting me into the state of mind or headspace that it used to. The tolerance I built up was just insane. For me, too much was definitely a bad thing. I hope that anyone else who is feeling like I was is able to get themselves to a place where they feel a little better because I was honestly pretty low right before making the decision. Being completely honest, I had a sort of “come to Jesus” moment not long before my last day smoking. I took my gun with me into the bathroom and just stared into the mirror and held the loaded pistol in my hand. It was the closest I’ve been to actually committing suicide. That same night, I had been cutting my forearm a bit and those two things together made me realize that I needed to make a change before I did something that I couldn’t undo. I do miss being able to just smoke and feel more relaxed, but it hadn’t been giving me that feeling for a long time. I still have an issue with self confidence and I’m still trying to figure out who I am and where I’m trying to go with my life, but the fact that I had a moment of self actualization and was clear of mind enough to understand that I needed to make some changes gave me a sense of comfort. I truly do hope that I’m in the minority when it comes to the effect it had on my mental health. I’m not saying it’s like all of a sudden I’m doing amazing, but I’m doing better and feel good about my decision. Hopefully I’ll be able to carve out my own niche and find something that gives me a sense of peace and satisfaction the same way that pot used to.

Then I thought about it, yeah its getting into sounding Stereotypical... shock them with the worst. Its only the last decade or so that we can now enjoy Cannabis and not in hiding from the law, just to enjoy a smoke of what nature produces. Not to mention of all of the other benefits, uses in materials and that it could power the whole world. Just think, 4 months to grow and harvest hemp/cannabis, that can produce Paper, plastics, wood, cloth, fuel, food, and medicine. If it's trees, then that's 50 years to grow a tree, vs 4 months for a hemp plant. Bottom line, its here because it's a plant of nature that is native to the Planet Earth. (shocking!!) Not a man made chemical. Some people in this chat discussion touch upon the dosage and how important it is. If you take a little amount at a time, you can eventually rase or lower your dose, to figure out what is right for you. "The comfort zone" so to speak. Another person/people in the chat touch upon Autism and how it helps him/her cope. It's an amazing plant that produces health benefits that work better as a plant of nature, then the counterpart of medicine that doctors prescribe causing side effects or just not working as prescribed.

Call it Vitamin M (marijuana) It is NOT like alcohol as alcohol is man-made. Cannabis is organic. It requires appropriate use for the need/use - It can be used as medicine (aches and pains, etc.) - it can be used like alcohol - get happy - it can be used as medicine for your brain (reduce stress, relax!) Moderation is key if you're going to use weed. I've been smoking for a long long time so I have an idea of what it does to me. There are times when it's really comforting and usually that feeling comes after I haven't smoked for weeks and took a tolerance break. The paranoid feeling comes from chronic use, I used to smoke all day everyday, I'm taking bowls every 5 to 10 minutes, it stopped having the effects that were good feeling, my tolerance got higher and higher which made me need to take more to get high, and I started getting a very foggy feeling brain constantly which I can't allow anymore as my line of work and things I want to do require a clear mind. The stuff also does have an effect on memory of the short term for me, and will block your dreams (good if you suffer from night terrors) but I truthfully believe dreams are messages from God, the universe, whatever you want to call it, and when you quit for a time, you'll notice your dreams come back like crazy. I don't believe in smoking more if it hits you bad, if anything you might want to stay away from it if it's not agreeing with you. Keep in mind I know many people that can function just fine doing it all day long while others it takes them out. I recommend following your gut feeling and do what feels right for you.

For anyone thinking about smoking weed: I was stuck in a bubble and pushed away anyone who even made the slightest comment about me smoking weed. I had no idea I was such a pain to be around and that it had changed my behavior. There was no way for anyone to get me out of it, because I could not see that I was stuck. The only way was to ride it out until it went completely wrong. Losing my friends was the least of my problems compared to the mental health issues weed caused me, and I still have to deal with that 11 years later. It is always good to share the personal downsides of drugs, because the people who say that it is nothing but positive, will scream the loudest and ignore the people spiraling out of control in the process. It is such a big risk for undiagnosed people...which can be anyone. Sure it can have positive effects for certain people, but don't gamble on it. If you or any direct family have mental health issues, than don't just start doing drugs. Take this from someone with schizophrenia and other psychosis related problems triggered because of weed.

As a user for 10+ years everyday, i just quit 4 days ago. Honestly it helped me with my adhd, helps me to focus, but the downside I eat too kuch, get lazy, paranoia, anxiety, not wanting to do anything the list goes on. It helped me but also has hindered me. The first day was tough I wanted to smoke so bad and I actualy got upset at one point and totally shut down, the secons day was actualy pretty good only 3 times i had the urge, yesterday was great, i got a great sense of clearity in my head i cannot explain other than i feel like i have had a fog in my brain until now. Today im feeling so good, the clarity is only getting better and better. I cant wait to see what the next few weeks has to comw- i know thats not a super long goal but this is the longest ive gone without smoking weed in 10 years.

It was pretty interesting to see this. I am an addict by every criteria. Been smoking for about 13 years now, from morning to evening, even with peaks of smoking 5 grams a day. I am on the verge of quitting since it took a pretty strong hold on my live. Experiencing panic attacks on a regulat bases even on days when i dont smoke. And the wirst thing is the craving for more even though you know weed is the cause of the problem. After reading some of the comments over here, it really pushed me over the edge to quit. Very informative. I've been using cannabis for the last decade, (I'm now 62) and I've learned there are so many varieties and uses for this amazing plant. It changed my life. As a person with CPTSD, ADD/ADHD and some chronic health issues, I've been able to reduce my prescription ADHD meds, my anti-depressants. It also helps keep my blood sugar under control and my blood pressure lower. One more thing; it helped me successfully lose and keep weight off for the first time in my adult life. Because of cannabis, I went from obesity to a size 10 and ten years later, I'm still a size 10.

one of the main aspect of use is to balance the waistline ... activating the cb receptors in your body makes cells function better .... meaning more metabolism , more lipids being signaled in the endocannabioid system ... many people unbeknownst to them have what is termed - Severe endocannabinoid deficiencies . cannabis directly helps that condition in seconds after ingestion and puts pressure on the ECS so as to provide that type of signaling long term ... so short and sweet - ingesting cannabis activates dormant cell pathways in our cells that are there for the very survival of the cells and for maintaining pro homeostasis response in all metabolically active tissue cells

"This molecule provides hightened sense of importance about whatever it is we happen to be doing" - That's it. That's what I love in the weed effect. I so often tend to overanalyze everything, constantly overthinking about the future possibilities and my current life situation, that I have big problems with "living here and now" and having any joy of it. Weed helps me SO MUCH to awake my inner buddhist, forget everything and just feel enormous joy about whatever I'm doing at the moment. I would like to have such control of myself without any external substances, but I don't. And knowing that I have some weed in my pocket actually makes me higher even without smoking it, just 'cause I know I can choose to feel good at any given moment and have a safety net for any depressing thoughts.

I'm glad to hear that but I've experienced the complete opposite. I always started overanalyzing stuff that I still had to when I smoked weed. I've now quit smoking weed for over a year and my life has gotten much better. Interesting to see how we respond the complete opposite from each other.

I have always understood that aside from the main characters of THC and CBD, there is a vast array of supporting characters in this cast in the form of terpenes. This was the explanation for why different strains evoke different responses. The one thing most people don't know is that while pharmaceuticals can greatly increase consistency of effects, they are not immune from evoking different responses than expected. We barely understand how anti-depressants work, and the average patient who requires them often goes through a whole menu of drugs before they find the right cocktail for their personal chemistry.

As an MD I can confirm this is absolutely correct. Most of the antidepressant classes we have now were discovered accidentally, then they traced the molecule back and labeled the compound a medicine. Those drugs are very “dirty,” meaning they act on a lot of different receptors. We understand a very narrow scope of the full spectrum of actions. Natural compounds tend to be “dirty” but overall and outside of abuse of the compound, side effects from naturally occurring “medicines” such as THC tend to be lower than pharmaceutical antidepressants.

@@johnny07652It's very different from alcohol and narcotics in terms of harm, both to your body and mind, and in terms of effect(weed can help to solve the problem, whereas alcohol is definitely not). It's better to use a weed rather than alcohol and narcotics. I know people who's been smoking for 20 years, moderately, and they're perfectly ok. But i know nobody who drinks for a long period of time, and has the same health conditions as those weed users.

I served in the US Army from 2000-2013 and consumed no marijuana in that period, though I did a little before, and do a lot now since. Never in my time without 'weed' did I have a genuine attach of panic or anxiety. Then for years after the service, still no panics despite very regular daily smoking. Then I started on brain/psych meds to manage my borderline bi-polar. About six months of combined Rx + smoked weed never yielded a noticeable interaction, until I got to some threshold, I don't know. Out of nowhere, and having not consumed weed in the prior 12+ hours, first thing in the morning, I had a frightening loss of balance as I drove a vehicle. Repeatedly, and remarkably NOT under the recent influence of weed. In those days I was smoking between 1-3g of flower weed, but the last smoke was always around 8+ hours, including sleep. I didn't smoke weed at work, or before going to it, only after. I'm not signaling virtue, I'm merely describing the context. I suffered a great deal of panic and anxiety at the thought of even riding in a car. I could not drive myself anywhere faster than about 25mph. Whether under or not under influence of recently smoked weed. Then I ceased the particular Rx I was on, and started on Zoloft. I honestly forget what I was on before. Regardless, I haven't had any of those panic attacks, while still smoking quite regularly, until I quit the Rx. That's not to say the Rx is the problem, it just means that weed + that Rx yielded some frightening "side effects" that I won't like to revisit. To conclude, I think I need to smoke much less weed than I do, cutting entire days and series of days out of my regular use. Smoking less brings more value to the occasions in which I smoke. Stop drinking pop every day, or coffee everyday, and notice that less is more when it comes to consumables. Less consumption = money saved, time saved, more recovery between occasion, more value on those occasions. Everything in moderation they say, and weed is no exception I say.

It's been odd experiencing both ends of the spectrum, but I can say that the change coincides with a traumatic experience that I had several years ago involving people that I regularly consumed marijuana with. I find that micro dosing with THC works amazing for myself. One small toke and I am more relaxed, less stressed and more into my flo and rhythm. I also think this explanation should also include the amount of THC that one is using as well. There are so many strains that give so many different effects of THC.

Oh yes , dosage is everything. I use RSO and I buy the strong THC type. One gram can last me 4-5 months. My oil dose size is about the size of a pinhead. I am able to go for long walks with it and my feet hurt less. I have no use for getting really high. It's like getting drunk and can't safely do anything. Microdosing helps me somewhat with arthritis and mobility. Not a lot , but somewhat. If I take too much oil I cannot even walk and have to lie down for a couple of hours. It's the same with anything you put in your body, even food or water.Between walking and microdosing, I have been also able to lower my BP. Moderation is key.

I'm on that same boat too dude. after consuming cannabis for over 8 years of my life, i really don't want to partake in it anymore for I am now starting to feel the 'after effects' of what it has done to my brain. If I had stopped smoking it during high school and continued a life of sobriety, I would've been in a completely different position than I am now (probably a lot more wealthier, smarter, and physically fit too). I've tried and experimented with so many different strains and edibles, but they all kind of gave me the same effects (most of them being negative) such as: lack of motivation, unable to retain important information, forgetting easily, and panic attacks. I've had a lot of pleasant memories smoking it with my friends in high school because we really didn't have a lot of responsibilities and we legit didn't care about anything else but having fun, chasing after girls, and getting high. But now that I'm older (24 turning 25 this month), I regret letting myself continue smoking cannabis throughout the years. Maybe it does depend on the dosage or the strain? I've had many dab pens and I would take a couple hits and would feel a great 'buzz' and would feel alert and focused just like Dr. Huberman said as he was reading out the effects when consuming sativa strains, but when the high wears down (and that goes for all strains from personal usage), I feel completely unmotivated to do anything but eat and just relax, my mind becomes very "foggy" and I just don't feel good until I take another hit from the pen or smoke another joint, and then the cycle of dependency continues. I wish you well on a road of sobriety from cannabis because I'm walking on that road too.

What's weird for me is, at first, it had a positive effect where I was relaxed, creative, energetic, focused, etc. but then literally one day it reversed and made me feel like I was in some paranoid, catatonic nightmare. Not like the "ha ha he's paranoid" but like unexplainably worse - sort of in the ballpark of how Salvia made me feel - like borderline "bad acid trip" type vibes. And even though it was so bad that I had to quit, I still have overwhelming anxiety even 16 years later. I know it helps a lot of other people in a lot of ways though and I still know it's a pretty magical substance for most and I'm all for others being able to use it but it's just not my cup of tea anymore.

have you ever considered if there might be another underlying condition or cause for this? and maybe even something that does not combine well with cannabis use, and maybe other substances? the reason i ask is that i saw something similar of what you describe happen to a friend. he got heavy in to smoking and everything was great until a sudden change... also over night, or as i saw it from seeing him one weekend to the next being a completely different person. i talked quite a bit about it with a psychiatrist, from his perspective cannabis can be really bad for people with certain underlying conditions... for my friend it was a severe case of paranoid schizophrenia. ive never had a bad trip on acid, but i have tried salvia and did not like it, also ive experienced paranoia and psychosis from staying up on amphetamines for too long. so when you say paranoid, catatonic nightmare i do understand and should i describe my impression of what my friend went through it fits well... after the change, smoking became an obsession and it seemed to make thing just a little bit darker even though the times he was without it did not make it go away, at least to me it seemed like it just may have been a catalyst for what was already there. for your anxiety to be caused only by you smoking, in such a manner, and still be around 16 years after you quit is strange. maybe something worth considering or at least keep in mind for the future... but i aint no doctor so i dont know what im talking about, but you damn near described what happened to my friend only he never realized it happening and he never quit smoking.
