Tod Cooperman, M.D., explains what's really in popular canned tuna and canned salmon and how to choose a product that is high in omega-3s (DHA and EPA) but low in mercury and arsenic and sold at a good price. Based on ConsumerLab.com's tests and quality comparisons of canned fish at tinyurl.com/y8.... [Update (7/10/20): CL's testing was expanded to include sardines as well as pre-made, packaged tuna.]
Differences among types of tuna (albacore "white," skipjack and yellowtail) and salmon (sockeye "red," and pink) are explained. Products reviewed are from Bumble Bee, Chicken of the Sea, Deming's, Genova, Kirkland Costco, Safe Catch, StarKist, Trader Joe's, Vital Choice, and Wild Planet.
Visit the link above for more details about each product, CL's top picks, and what to look for to find the best-canned fish.
Since 1999, ConsumerLab.com been independently testing dieting supplements and reporting its findings. ConsumerLab.com is also the only third-party verification group that freely publishes its testing methods and quality criteria/standards. Visit tinyurl.com/y8... to become a member today.

This video and test results are over 3 years old. Corporations always decrease their products in quality in order to maximize the ALL IMPORTANT PROFITS. Maybe an update to this canned fish study is in order?? Thanks

I will say, the best tuna I've had in a can is the yellowtail in olive oil.

I thought everyone knew tuna was a lowfat fish. I eat it with olive oil for this reason. Salmon is completely different because it's cold-water.

Heavy metals? What about radiation -- that's the main concern now. I need to know how to read the code on a can of tuna or salmon to distinguish Atlantic from Pacific, and I'm not talking species but geography?

I really like canned Salmon! I'd LOVE to actually get ahold of some FRESH Salmon, but being a inner city type, settle for canned. It's ok though, I use it in browned butter with basil, pepper, soy sauce, , lemon juice, and cayenne, and pour that over fresh cooked pasta, it is darned tasty! :)

Typically, Fish low in omega 3 are farm raised. Farm raised fish are fed GMO’s, steroids and antibiotics. We need to find out the list of all tuna and salmon that is Ocean caught! I subscribed thinking you had some great information to share, but you have to click on your link to your website and pay to view the results 👎🏼 boo. Unsubscribing.

There is a great deal of free information on our site, including answers to hundreds of common questions about supplements www.consumerlab.com/answers/most_popular_recent_questions.asp, the latest recall/warning posting www.consumerlab.com/recalls.asp, and our RDA calculator www.consumerlab.com/RDAs/. However, independent testing of hundreds of products each year is expensive and this is paid for by membership fees ($47.40 annual or $78 for 2-years), which provides access to our full reviews of over 1,000 products.

I have a hypothesis I developed when I found out that the hyper-wealthy and the hyper politically connected do not eat, are not served, food with GMOs. (They also built a doomsday seed vault in Norway). Soooo...I surmised, ruefully, (seriously though) I think there is a plan, to let the ignorant unwashed heathens, (us, they mean us) eat, smoke, drink, drug, and monster truck, ourselves to an early death by the age of 62 or so, that way no one will notice social security is insolvent, and Medicaid is an avenue for seizing your assets when you sicken and die.

Hi,what's your opinion on adaptogens? I'm taking Boswellia serrata 500mg(NOW foods),I love it ! However,I think this batch (best by 01/20) is (soooooo) less potent than the old one (05/19).
@ConsumerlabPlus
@ConsumerlabPlus 6 жыл бұрын
Boswellia is an anti-inflammatory, but products can differ greatly based on whether a resin or extract is used. See our separate Joint Supplement Review for details: www.consumerlab.com/reviews/Review_Glucosamine_Chondroitin_MSM_Boswellia_Supplements/jointsupplements/. Also, we just finished testing the latest Boswellia supplements, so look for the new results by the end of this month.

I've never heard of Boswellia before. Do you take it for joint pain? Does it work better than glucosamine or do you take that too?
@anaana-ze8rd
@anaana-ze8rd 6 жыл бұрын
@@stormet54 yes,I'm coeliac,I have malabsorption as well.It took them forever to diagnose it(like 15yrs!). I 'm also taking vitamin D(without K-it gives me headache and cold hands &feet). I was taking Collagen,but it made my allergies worst(my IgE is over the roof),gave me a headache. Took hyaluronic acid,but my stomach is cramping like crazy when I take it. So,I ordered Boswellia 500mg. I could see difference within 3-4 days. I take it before bed. Tastes awfull at first,but now I'm actually hooked,and love it.It did give me stomach discomfort for first couple of days,but then it stopped. And,it calms your nervous system too. Eating raw onion(not garlic!) also helps me a lot (tried taking it as a supplement since it does stink :/,i ordered NOWs bromelain&quercetin,but hated it). Boswellia helps with joint pain,osteoarthritis(have it!),conective tissue,allergies,Crohn disease etc. Try it! But if your problem comes from spine,then try spine traction. Wet cupping (hijama)also helps a lot. Hope I helped :)

Thank you, Nickie. This error occurs at at 2:21 into the video, where "skipjack tuna" is accidentally referred to as "sockeye tuna." A correction has been made in the captioning. Sockeye salmon is quite different and is correctly mentioned many times in the video. Thanks again for catching this.
