I have a 28 year old son who I’m pretty sure is on the spectrum, I never had him tested because I didn’t want him “labeled”. We raised him and treated him the same as our other two children. He graduated, has worked since he was 17 and is now married with two beautiful baby girls. He is a productive member of society and we couldn’t be more proud of him. I know there are many people out there just like him!

Definitely, we just adapt our behaviour and their tasks etc to help them to get by,, it is sometimes frustrating trying to figure out that happy medium, but I think it is worth it! :D

I have 2 sons, whom I suspected were on the spectrum in primary school but a specialist told me that's who they were and didn't want to label them which was fine with me. However I did have to adjust they way I did things with each child to cope with life. As adults they are doing well.... My 28 yr old is an Electrician doing his dual degree in Refrigeration and my 26 yr old is a Registered Nurse. My 26 yr old has been diagnosed as having Aspergus as he knew he did things differently and my 28 yr old knows he is but does need a formal diagnosis. He has had many other tradesman with children that have been diagnosed ask him if he is, so he says that is enough for him, lol. They are navigating life wonderfully and both have their homes so I couldn't be more proud of them. You just need to do what you need to do and don't worry about what other people's opinions are with regards to how you raise your children💜💜

Nyssa, I hear ya when you talk about children and chores. I recently watched “homesteading with the Zimmermann” video about children and chores. I think you’ll find it helpful. I would’ve like her advice when my 6 were still at home. It’s nice having a large family offgrid channel to watch that’s Australian. We live in Perth and it’s wet where I am. But I'm not putting pressure, we needed new mugs (for winter hot chocolate) so they were what I looked at first hehe, but I've been setting up my space because I have a whole lot of fabric to make the kids clothes and haven't been able to for ages, now I'm getting space to get my machines back out :D

Watching you can all the pasta sauce and thinking how much pasta sauce we use and then how much you must use...and then you addressed just that. A lot. I also use a cheap hand blender from K-mart after my good one died on me that I had for years. It works fine so I'll stick to that. The raised bed looks a decent size. Fingers crossed with that. I was at Bunnings for a curtain fitting the other day and looked at garlic plants. They were over $11 and one variety said to grow in warm climate. I don't think that means Vic. so I passed. Might plant some bulbs from bought garlic and see how they go. Picked up another punnet of cauliflower seedlings. We got our garage door ahead of time and all good except I can't reach to pull it down. lol. Need to hunt around for something to hook it to pull it down. Change is a pain...all sorts of change. The season change is a big one to adapt to routines. Glad you have got around to the black beans, yum.

Love your ramblings. I’m preparing meat to marinade for a stir fry dinner and laughing long with you 😅 Oh so classy name for the rooster “Mr. Earl Grey”. Celery in Montréal is 3.99$ CDN (4.52 $ AUS ) for a few wobbly stalks held together with an elastic. Nope not buying that. We keep the leafy bits along with other veg odds and ends in the freezer. When we have enough we make a vegetable bouillon.

Hey Nyssa, great catch up chat & squirrel 🐿 I’ve paused the video before the pasta sauce video as yt always move on to the next video before I finish my msg to you. I wonder if it would help Sorrel & Apollo to do the dishes together everyday? One washes & one drys? They may be more motivated to do the task together. Maybe 🤞🏼🤞🏼 When you are ready, I need to order two bread bags. And just wondering if the squirrel 🐿 mug will come in black also? Autumn is always a season of changes for me, just got to enjoy those moments of calm when you can. Sending you a quote I like on messenger. Hope it’s not too chilly there tonight 🥰

We've tried that too, working together each day, one stacks, boils kettle/fetches hot water, the other washes, and then the boys put away (it's the small boys, 7,8,8 job to put dishes away every day, no matter who washes them) but they just argue about that too, I have no idea We just keep slightly altering our request and hoping that they get to a point that they realise it just has to be done! lol. Unfortunately, with sublimation, it only works on pale/white surfaces, you can get black mugs that have a white square and line up your art to sublimate the black with the image in that square, I might have to try it! I must admit, I'm a black mug fan too hehe.

I just freeze my pasta sauce/chili as it is so thick with so many ingredients that I am just not comfortable canning it. When I have time to research the canning times I may try though. Love Earl Grey! I was thinking of Stormy but he is a sweet bird so that doesn’t fit. In our house: no chores = no dessert (with warnings so they have time to do the chores last minute).
@OurSmallFootprint

Pressure canning it would be fine though :D but I do make mine fairly thin because we use it to thin out the thicker bolognese :D It’s sweet isn’t it hehe :) We do similar with after dinner gaming, and we do get the last minute (barely done) chores but it doesn’t help me with cooking during the day etc :s

Yes! But I had to put it in an esky etc because the easiyo didn’t hold temp enough for us! I am going to invest in a new electric one from Luvele, I like that it has a timer etc and a 2L vessel :).

I'm into raised beds so loved the price of yours. Where did you buy yours? Thanks for the info.

These ones were off the Rivers website (you know the shoes and clothes people) but if you google them, there is a huge amount of people who sell them, and they're on sale and varied and depending on where you are as to which one might have the best/free postage. They're Greenfingers beds and these ones are the 320 long ones. I even saw Woolworths was selling them at one point!

Could u pick up the root barrier from Bunnings when u are in Brisbane? If u take the trailer?

I can’t seem to find the specific root barrier anywhere physical except this permathene place, because I’d want the 90cm wide so it doesn’t have any joins etc! Always the way heh

Yeah, I think 40-45 mins is standard for a tomato with veg based sauce no meat. That is what I would have done!

I'm sure the kids would be thrilled to do that for you. I'm not sure we have decent rocks here to use lol, I'd have to go hunting, our clay and gravel just has chips rather than nice looking rocks! I don't expect anyone to send anything! But the kids are always excited to receive things and I try very hard to remember to mention everything they get!

Nyssa do you get snakes coming into the kitchen? Just noticed the wood stack? over your left shoulder.
@OurSmallFootprint
@OurSmallFootprint Жыл бұрын
Where I'm standing is out in the garden area under the secondary solar, so that wood pile isn't near the 'house' as such. But yes, we still do occasionally, we have raised wood decking as the flooring in the kitchen/dining space under the patio and we have been known to have snakes come out from under there occasionally, less so now we have the dogs/cat though! When we got the space cleared that we have our buildings on, they just pushed everything to the edge, over the years we have worked hard to get through all that wood and use is for firewood, but some of it has settled so badly that we would require machinery to try and move it more :S
