I’m drooling over all those freshly picked peaches on your counter!!! This video really makes the process look simple for someone who has never canned (like myself). I also didn’t know there were clingy and non-clingy peaches. How long would you say that whole process takes?
@reallifewithali Жыл бұрын
The time depends on a few things, but I would say for 7 quarts size jars the total time would be about 2-3hrs. It depends on the size of your peaches. When they are big, you aren’t spending as much time peeling and can fit fewer peaches into a jar.

Thank you! You can borrow a canner from a friend and go to the farmers market to get the produce you need. It's so worth it! It is a little bit of an investment in the beginning because you have to purchase jars, but again, it's worth it to me. I have like 6 basil plants! Haha. And I haven't done anything with them yet. 🤦🏻♀ Pesto is one of my favorite things to preserve with basil. I just put it in tiny jars or in a ziplock bag and freeze I also have a yummy tomato basil soup I make and freeze. I also just dry it! Wash it and lay it out on a towel to dry thoroughly. Lay them on a cookie sheet and bake at 200 degrees or the lowest your oven with go for about 1-3 hours. Flip them every 45 mins or so so they dry evenly.

I peeled and pitted my peaches into a colander over a pot. There was a lot of juice in the pot when I was done. Is it safe to freeze this juice and then replace equal parts of juice for water in your syrup next time I can? I think this would give the canned peaches a robust peachy flavor.😊

@@kat1963 That’s a really good question and a good idea! I wish I knew the answer, but I don’t. I can’t imagine it not being okay. 🤷🏻♀️
@bednarczyk4 ай бұрын
Great video. As a 100% beginner I’m still trying to understand the “why’s” of the process which a lot of videos seem to miss. Why sugar syrup? What’s the purpose and if I prefer them not sweetened additionally is that possible? Why the blanching? Just to remove the skin? Could I peel it otherwise if I wanted to skip that step? Can I just use a regular non-canner pot? Etc. Just something to possibly add to a future remake of the video. But thanks for explaining the process really well. If I didn’t care to understand more, this is all I would need.
@reallifewithali4 ай бұрын
@@bednarczyk Thank you for your feedback. Yes you could can peaches without sugar and just use water. You blanch them to make it easier for the peels to come off. I thought I mentioned that, but maybe I didn’t. 🤷🏻♀️ So you could skip that step and peel them without blanching, but it will likely take longer. And yes, you can use a stockpot as long as the jars are covered by 1-2” of water and there is a rack on the bottom of the pot so the jars don’t sit on the bottom. I hope that helps!
@bednarczyk4 ай бұрын
@@reallifewithali Totally helps, thanks! You did mention the blanching one, I just wasn't sure if the only reason was for peeling or if it had other benefits.

I really enjoyed this video until the end. Now I am so confused I doubt I will try to can peaches. At the end you pulled the jars out of the boiling water and set them on a towel to cool. The next thing you showed was the rings off. One person comented that you are not suppose to store them with the rings on. You answered that you remove them, wash them, then put them back on. I thought the lid sealed it so it creates a vaccum? If you remove the lid there cannot be a vaccum. I am so confused. As I said, I wanted to try this but I got lost.
@reallifewithali4 ай бұрын
@@tomatencio9223 I am sorry for the confusion. The rings are not the same thing as the lid. The ring is just what holds the lid in place when you process them in the water bath. The lid is what seals and creates a vacuum. Which means that the ring is no longer of any use. So if you remove the ring after processing, you still have the sealed lid on the jar. I hope that makes sense.
