Hello friends! Today I'm sharing a canning vlog and I hope you all enjoy it! I grew up canning and have all of the basic knowledge, but have never done it by myself. This year I thrifted all of my canning needs and I'm so happy about it!
The recipes I used are fairly simple and detailed below.
Canned peaches:
1 jar packed with halved, peeled peaches
covered with no. 2 syrup (two parts water to one part sugar, boiled)
Hot water bath can for 20 minutes
Peach and plum jelly:
5.5 cups of liquid
7 cups of sugar
1 package pectin
(follow directions with the pectin)
Peach jam - same as above, pretty much
apple butter:
A full crock pot of apples, halved in order to fit more in
1-1/2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cloves
cooked till apples are soft, then processed with a vintage food mill and canned as normal
All jars should be kept hot, and lids should be boiled to sanitize and kept in hot water till used.
Music is from Epidemic sound tidd.ly/3tnqFbH
I use a Canon 60D camera: amzn.to/3b7uTy6
An EF-S 24MM lens: amzn.to/3f06k7d

I am a "canner" but in Australia we call it preserving fruit in jars, and making jam, sauces, and jellies. Nothing more satisfying than a pantry cupboard full of home made preserves. Sadly people are doing it less these days. Self sufficiency videos on KZbin are bringing these skills back thank goodness. Thank you for yours Kristina. I know you will inspire others! 🐾

You will be so happy come winter! This reminds me of when we grew up (I was raised by my Grandparents). They had 3 gardens and several fruit trees. The smells were heavenly in the Fall and we always appreciated those beautiful preserves in the cold winter months. I think your kids will appreciate these memories you are making too.

I loved this so much!! Canning is SOOOO much work and it never goes as planned.... lol!! Two tricks I've learned: score the peaches before boiling/chilling, and don't stack sealed jars on top of each other. Also loosen the rings for storing. Stacking cans and leaving rings tight can result in a broken seal/spoiled food. xo

Yes, I totally forgot to voiceover those tips - I had mine stacked purely to get them all in one shot, but stacking is a no-no.

Sooo much fruit! I'm glad all your hard work paid off. My grandma used to make plum jelly from her Santa Rosa and Satsuma plums trees every year. We would get to help pick and prep when she did the Concord grape jelly. I'm going to try canning for the first time this year with the fruit from my Strawberry tree. I found a jam recipe and a crumble recipe I'm going to try.

I'm late, but enjoying this video. I am blessed with some citrus trees, and the people from before left me a great tool. I don't know what it's called, but it is a wire basket on a stick. About half the basket extends a bit to where the wires fold over 90° so you can grab an pull the fruit, and the basket is big enough to grab a few fruit at a time so you aren't reaching every single time. I never looked for it, since before I didn't know about it & now I have one. But just wanted to pass on that they do exist & might be helpful✌❤

Apple butter is one of my favorites I actually make up a large batch of apples in the roasting oven, cook down part as apple sauce and then the rest I cook down to thick butter. I love canning it is one of those things that is a lot of work but at the end of it you have all the delicious food for enjoyment later and it is so nostalgic for me because my grandparents are the ones that taught me primarily my grandpa and I have so many wonderful memories of hours gardening, harvesting and the preserving that harvest with him. I have a canning book from 1943 that my grandma gave me and it is something I treasure and actually keep it in our fireproof safe when not using just to keep it protected in case of fire or pests (might be a bit much but 🤷‍♀️)

I have the same fabric, your shirt is made of, in my stash and have been wondering what to make with it. Your shirt is so cute I think I might attempt a shirt with it. I love canning all the wonderful fruits and veggies we get from the garden. It's not just you who can't find lids in the stores right now. We haven't been able to find lids in any of our stores where I live since last year. And just a note, but filling jars with hot jam and just flipping them upside down to seal without processing is an unsafe canning practice. Always process to get it hot enough to kill any bacteria. I have a couple really great safe canning practice facebook groups if you're interested. Love your videos they are always so real and cute.

This is my husband and my first year canning because we finally have a big enough garden to make it worth while. So far we've made pickles and tomatoe sauce. Though, I did have to escape the house when I let him make a batch of spicy pickles, overall canning is a good experience for me. I'm freezing some veggies, too. What my family, & I have done is use the dishwasher. Wash, with 2 rinses. This leaves it very hot! They're ready to fill with anything. Then after they are all filled, instead of the water bath, put them back in the washer, & they'll seal after just a rinse. But if you aren't sure, you can do 2. You can fit a mass amount of jars for this in a dishwasher! Out everyway I've ever tried, this is the best.
