Just got my stem canner and bares on sale so I planed to can them. So this was how to do this. Thank you.

Just made my pears using my steam canner for the first time. I loved it just didn’t like the water spitting all over my stove. It was hard to get the right temperature. Still loved it because it has less room to store.

I’m doing my pears this week also. Really pretty jars you’re using! Thanks for always doing it right instead of quick!

I have found using a chopstick to turn and maneuver pear or peach halves works really well.

I use very light syrup and any leftover syrup gets canned at same time for pouring over poke cakes or instead of water in coffee cakes...just cut sugar by 1/4 cup. Sometimes I add 1/4-1/2 tsp cinnamon+ a pinch if nutmeg to each jar. A friend likes pickled spiced pears so put pickling spice in his jar bottoms...his have to "cure" in jar for 12-18 months before eating as it calls for green/unripe pears ( still a bit hard. Lol)

Also take the lemon juice h2o pears are sitting in & add syrup to it & can as a juice for cold season drinking. Helps loads.

Like those jars. Where did you get them? They would make nice gifts for family. Also the waterbath canner, that is nice! Always enjoy your canning videos. I always learn a little more. Canning is something I enjoy very much.

Add 1T amaretto or almond liquor and 2 T blanched slivered almonds per pint. If you can wait 1 year after canning you have A very rich buttery flavored pear

That sounds delicious. I'll have to check out how to add the slivered almonds safely. I'm not sure how that may effect the processing. But now I want to know because it sounds so good.

Tattler lids have a great lidlifter.

Dont throw your ball lids away. You can reuse for jams n jellies, or for dried goods or nuts n bolts , buttons craft stuff, leftovers for fridge . Etc.. also you can a lot you will have a gazillion bands . Soooo , put the bands all the same way n put in a circle , tie w string inside circle and spray paint orange or whatever color and then when dry put fake leaves, sticks , cinnimon sticks whatever in middle n you have a pumpkin for fall decorating or to sell for fall craft sales. There is tutorials on utube for doing this and they are a lot of fun n good use for bands rather then throwing away.

I love reusing lids for crafts or dry storage. They aren't neat to reuse for any kind of canning, though. I wish they were, and I know people do it, but they are intended to be single use for canning.

I want to can pears and grapes together. Should I use fruit fresh or vitamin c tablets to soak the pears? I'm confused of which to use because I don't want to use lemon juice but I don't want my pears to turn brown while I'm cutting them and how much fruit fresh to how much water? The container has confusing instructions. It says sprinkle in to fruit and I don't want to sprinkle I rather soak like your doing so how much is for the right amount of water?

So on your tabular lids you said that they don't pop how do you know when they're sealed?
@2leelouCreates3 жыл бұрын
They don't make the pop noise but when you look at them you can see they are curved down. Also they are sealed very tightly.
