Here is a tip for you about your jars after you wash them if you put them in the oven on a tray at 240 degrees in 20 minutes they’re perfectly sanitized and then the oven can hold the heat so that your jars are hot but they’re also sanitized I hope that helps I’ve been doing that for years for pressure canning and for water bath

Lol.. Watching Danny, peel that pear, brought back a memory. When, my granny would put up apples.. We would stand around waiting for that peel, as a snack.. Not to mention, discussing about, who had the longest peels. You had to help out for those peels too.. My uncle, would get the left over, for his pigs. Only after, the good peels was boiled down, for other uses. I can still smell, those smells.. Tearing up, with a smile.

My family loves the pear or peach juice added to our tea in place of sugar after we've eaten the fruit. I've even added the juice in place of water in baked goods. Yummy.

Your pears look great. I put my pears up about 3 weeks ago. I got 28 pints and 13 quarts. I open a jar and make pear salad. I put a little graded cheese on each pear with a dollop of mayo and a cherry on top. My family loves them like that. I also make pear cobbler. Always look forward to pear canning time. Thanks for sharing.

My oh my what big Pears you have. ....lol! Pears, pears, what can I say, they are time consuming work to can but oh so good. Thanks Wanda for the tip on the lemon water. Found a recipe on Pinterest a few years ago "Spiced Pear Jelly/Jam" that all our neighbors, family and we love. Seems to get better and better after 6 months. We use potato peeler and give the peels to our composter or chickens. Learning so much from yall. Thanks for posting.

Wanda thank you for This video. I picked some pears a few days ago sent a pic to you guys.Not sure if it went through or not. We are taking care of my husbands boss property and found the pear tree by accident. I also thought Danny mentioned something about Hickory nuts what do you do with them ? Persimmon tree is on the property too not sure what to do with those either but want to make sure they don't go to waste . I mean the squirrels and birds don't waste them. We love watching all you and Danny's video still looking for land..
@DeepSouthHomestead7 жыл бұрын
The hickory nuts can be used in place of pecans. They are extremely hard to bust and pick out. But they taste great. The persimmons can be used in breads, pie, cake, muffins, etc. We have a few recipes for them.

Beautiful pears! I had a fight with the deer for my pears this year. But did can 24 jars. I noticed that one of your jars looked like it had a ingredients list on it. Is that a mayo jar? I always wondered if you could use jars like that for your canning.
@DeepSouthHomestead7 жыл бұрын
Yes, but only use those jars when water bath canning. They do not hold up under pressure canning. I use them for fruits only.
@johannaadams47037 жыл бұрын
Thanks that is good to know. I always use my jars to store left overs in the fridge because I try to find other purposes for things instead of throwing away. I love your channels, you and Danny have really helped me a lot.

Do you make applesauce? I love making apple - pear sauce! If the apples are sweet and the pears are overripe, the sauce needs no sugar at all. It even tastes like it has cinnamon and sugar in it, depending on the type of apple you use.
@DeepSouthHomestead7 жыл бұрын
We still have several jars of apple and pear sauce in our pantry. We have even added flavors to the pear sauce to have a variety. Awesome when you have lots of pears and apples.

I use a potato peeler when peeling pears. Sometimes my hubby peels, I cut out the core and slice into a bowl of One gallon of water with one T of salt and one T of white vinegar. My pears don't turn link after canning... Just another method. Pears are so good to store.

Just curious.....when your canning jar rings get a tiny bit of rust on them, is it safe to continue to use them or should I ditch them? I've always used new lids but I save the rings to reuse. How often do you change the rings? BTW..... I love your canning instructions. Have a great day and hugs !!
@DeepSouthHomestead7 жыл бұрын
We save the rings until they get rusty then pitch them. You may find a craft project to do with them. There are many projects out there using the rings. Thanks

They look great and y'all make it look easy. What's would be the difference in a water Bath canner and a pressure type canner and can you do all your canning with one or the other or do you need both types of canners.

I love canned pears! They're a comfort food from my childhood. My mom would grate some cheese over them as an occasional dessert. She also put up a few jars with a shot of peppermint schnapps and a few drops of green food coloring. They were intended as a fancy dessert served with ice cream, but I've found they calm a upset tummy much like pepto bismo. Thanks for sharing how you all get er done. Inspiring.

My mom would put a pear half on a leaf of lettuce with a spoon of mayo in the center, topped with shredded cheese and a cherry on top. Beautiful side or dessert dish.
