It must be so devastating for Cannon to come to terms with the loss of Ball after they performed together for over fifty years. My heart goes out to him.

I saw an interview of Tommy talking about it, the poor guy looked absolutely devastated. It was very uncomfortable viewing, I felt so sad for him.

Hello when I was young, my family and I saw Cannon and Ball at Scarborough and Great Yarmouth, Tommy Cannon spoke to me and picked on me, and Bobby Ball raised his fists at my late Father, I wish that they would bring back Cannon and Ball on TV.

I think that you can clearly see that in this Royal Variery Show performance, Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball were at the very pinnacle of their careers. They knew what worked and the sketch had everything I think. The wonderful interaction between the two of them, a bit of slapstic, Tommy's wonderful voice and pure wonderful pathos at the end when Tommy carried Bobby off the stage. Truly truly wonderful ! They were a superb comedy act and very very funny. Much much missed and Rest in Peace dear Bobby and thankyou so much for the memories and the laughs.

I am staggered by the derogatory comments and the ignorance expressed in these comments.In point of fact,the timing displayed in this sequence is as near perfect as it’s possible to achieve in comedy.Maybe your problem is closer to home!
@sansovino41246 жыл бұрын
Stupid comment. Perfect timing my arse. Timing is irrelevant if the material is lame.
@MARKMANIATT6 жыл бұрын
Ian Jenkins So presumably, if we carry your ludicrous argument further can we assume that great material will still be great with bad timing?Watch Bobby Ball again.Now tell me that is lame material.He is a natural comic who can reproduce the antics of the mouthy coward as well as anyone I’ve seen.
@sansovino41246 жыл бұрын
So timing is all that matters? Is that your argument? Well, go and enjoy.
@MARKMANIATT6 жыл бұрын
Ian Jenkins Not in the least but comic timing is at the heart of great comedy.The sketch isn’t the strongest but it’s beautifully carried off.
@sansovino41246 жыл бұрын
I was spoilt by Morecambe and Wise, The Two Ronnies, The Goon Show, Monty Python - I never got Cannon & Ball or, even worse, Little and Large. Maybe my timing wasn't quite right!

Pretty sure Tommy really wanted to be a singer. There's a very early video of them in the Wheeltappers and Shunters Club where Tommy really showed off a great voice and Bobby looked about 18 years old. Since they weren't at all topical and don't really have jokes per se the act has aged well. It's basically a love-hate relationship thing and I understand it ended with hate. Probably an occupational hazard of working very closely with one person. I understand the Laurel and Hardy and Morecambe and Wise were friends to the end though.
