Cannon Beach Sneaker Wave

A double sneaker wave at high tide on Crescent Beach below Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach, Oregon. I saw the first wave but wasn't expecting the follow up wave to be more powerful! My shoes got wet as water splashed onto the rock I was standing on.
A good reminder to always keep an eye on the ocean and be careful on high tide days like this!
Raven the dog is very strong swimmer, but I'm still glad she got out of this wave so quickly!

OMG Sneaker waves are one of my greatest fears! I grew up next to Lake Michigan so I have immense respect for the Ocean!

They can be quite scary. I've heard the waves in Lake Michigan can get quite large!

Excellent example of a classic sneaker wave. It looks low and slow, but it’s long, strong reach up the beach will drag you away.

Great video :) I took the family to Cannon Beach a few years ago. We were searching for agates. The ex-wife put the baby down on a sandy spot amongst the rocks. Then a large wave came in. I'm yelling at the top of my lungs to get the baby as I am trying to get to the baby. Made it just in time. That added 10 gray hairs.

I've lived near the ocean all my life on the northern west coast, and never seen a sneaker wave.

@@Zoomdak I think it may be because all the beaches around where I am are really steep and rocky, so if there was a sneaker wave, it would stop immediately, and I'd just be like, 'oh that was a big wave' and move on with my day.

If the sun is out, and the beach is wet. Pretty simple. The waves are going there. That wasn't a sneaker wave. That was another big wave in the mix.
