Fun fact: The front wing actually provided no downforce at all. It was added as a 'cheat' to get around crazy US bumper-height regulations at the time, and was usually removed by the dealerships after the car was delivered to the owner. Other exotic cars of the era got around the regulation by jacking up the suspensions on their cars when they were imported, and then having them lowered back to factory spec once they were sold here.

A lot of the car films in the 60s and 70s had very little oversight....ie....they could break the law within reason...as long as nothing happened. Today it's MUCH more difficult to get a good chase scene in without it being CG or speed limit manipulation. Take the original Gumball Rally movie for example.....never again will you see that kind of realism.

This movie came out after America had had a Federally-mandated 55-mph speed limit imposed on all 50 States in violation of our Tenth Amendment. People were SICK of it! This intro made Americans cheer for the Lambo!! Even with the strict emissions controls required for their sale in America (especially California), there were cars like the Lambo available for sale here with the capability of making SUCH a mockery of 55 that no car any police department had at the time could touch it.
@Tre38843
@Tre38843 8 жыл бұрын
@70Kenny - Not a violation of the Tenth Amendment. Also, it was not a mandate imposed on all the states. Because of the Tenth Amendment States are free to enact its own laws and regulations, however the federal government can encourage states to comply with federal standards as it did here with the 55 mph speed limit through funding incentives, etc. States were free to impose their own speed limits but most chose not to in order to receive federal funding into state coffers in exchange for agreeing to adopt a federal speed standard.
@70Kenny
@70Kenny 8 жыл бұрын
+Steve Esquire Yes, you are at least partly correct, Steve. The entire Federal highway system is actually the official domain of the Department of Defense, which is actually one of the few DC entities with a Constitutional provision for existence and funding from American taxpayers. With respect to a DC-mandated speed limit on Federally-funded highways, there are two schools of thought on what's Constitutionally appropriate: A) The highways are owned by the Department of Defense and they can do as they please. B) The Tenth Amendment was put into place to protect individual States and localities from exactly this type of DC overreach into the lives of citizens (who actually pay for the Department of Defense and the highways running through their communities). I choose to err on the side of LIBERTY, here. DC should not be allowed to violate the SPIRIT of our Tenth Amendment on any technicality.

MrSealteam7bm It`s a hell of an intro, but the best ever???. There are sò much more great movies with a great intro, like Raiders Of The Lost Ark...This was the perfect introduction to one of cinema’s most iconic characters. Although originally imagined as the American answer to James Bond, this opening scene proved that James Bond had nothing on Indiana Jones. This is edge of your seat, gripping and completely engrossing stuff and is so effective that this first 10 minutes from the Indiana Jones trilogy is the most iconic and still arguably the best scene in the entire movie series. This scene gave the audience the perfect taster into what they were to expect from the franchise and a lot of the films success probably has a lot to do with this brilliant opener. No one could watch just this opening 10 minutes without wanting to watch more.

They HAD to put the front wing on to satisfy California DMV regs, which ruined the airflow around the vehicle. They could not take it over 120 or it would try to lift off the front end. Besides, the camera chopper could not keep up with the beast that was threatening to strip the black off the asphalt each time they dropped the hammer. You guys get the Lambo, gimme Hal & Brock's Dodge 427 Hemi Sportsman WHAAHHHAmbulance. 90 gallon fuel cells with quad fueling ports, 145MPH cruise, it just needs a beefier transmission to go the distance. His first try gutted it, pity. He donated it to a church after the filming and they got a pretty penny out of the raffle.
