One of your greatest strengths is your ability to share a genuine opinion on a given game without the need to make sure said opinion matches how the gamer masses feel. You do this with honestly and without spite, and the importance of this cannot be overstated in a genre of gaming-related content that oftentimes focuses too much on popular opinion and over-the-top anger for reasons of online acceptance. I believe you could make more ranking videos like this one for other platforms and/or genres, and they would be just as good. Well done.

You must be popping up in a lot of recommendation lists because I too am someone who just recently discovered your page and love your content. This was hands down one of the most interesting NES game ranking lists ever because so many of your mentions are games I’m either vaguely familiar with but didn’t really, if not, ever play, or I’ve literally never heard of (and I consider myself pretty much an NES junkie so I clearly need to step my gaming up lol. But I think my most favorite part about your content is your ability to articulate what your saying about something, especially from a critical standpoint. This is coming from someone who in real life tends to be very passive and non confrontational so critical talk is very hard for me whereas you flow off your real opinions on extremely well while still being insightful and genuine. I wish I could capture that personality trait in a bottle so I could sell it lol Thanks so much and cheers to you on another great video!

Cool video! Growing up in the 80s and early 90s, my first console was the NES, with my very first game being Super Mario Bros. 3. A classic. I was pretty much glued to this game and wasn't interested in exploring much else at the time. But now that I'm older and after watching this and some of your other videos, I'd love to try some of these! Great job as always, Pam! Keep up the great work!

One of the things I really love about this channel is that you have one of the most unique/out-of-step tastes in games I've ever come across lol. So many games most people love you hate, and vice/versa. Obviously there are plenty of popular games you also like, but your taste is just different enough from the masses that you end up praising games I never would have given a second look otherwise. It's actually helped me expand my own tastes and discover hidden gems.

I played Prince of Persia on DOS and was *obsessed*. Completed it many times before I got bored with it. The jumping was pretty bad, agreed, but the two main things that got me were the elite guards who you had to nail a long parry-riposte chain to defeat, and the times you had to start your jump on the previous screen to get over the gap. I like these ranking videos! Love to see more.

I hadn't seen this before. I can imagine your initial impressions of Duck Tales didn't go over well at the time. Sometimes, how we perceive a game depends on the hype for the game or even where we are mentally when first trying it. One experience in gaming that I love is revisiting those games and coming away with a positive second impression. It's a wonderful experience and once I've had many times. And most retro games are short which makes it easier to give second and third chances. I've lost track of all the games I ended up loving on a second or third attempt, but I recall not loving Gunstar Heroes at first, as well as stuff like Vendetta, Undercover Cops, and even Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder, but coming back and maybe making some tweaks helped. Yoshi's Island and Super Mario 2 were others. And sometimes, no matter how many attempts I give it, there's just no changing my opinion. Chaos Engine and Castlevania 4 are among those. But giving games more than one chance is often a good thing, especially with popular games like Duck Tales as there's usually something there. In my case, I liked Duck Tales back when I played it in 1990. The pogo mechanic is a little weird, but I took to it pretty quickly. Good to hear that you came to enjoy Duck Tales. The ports of Prince of Persia are quite interesting. There's a cool video out there where one guy breezes through his takes on the versions. Prince of Persia is a game I didn't love until revisiting it a few years back. So the short version of the video is that the best versions to play are the original DOS version(there's an open-source version called SDLpop), the Macintosh version, and the Sega CD version(which has hilarious voiceovers). The others tend to have some bizarre and major flaws. The PC Engine version is good, except that the potions aren't color coded like they're supposed to be, which can lead to some unwanted effects. Drinking mystery potions is a bad way to go through life.

Since this was a ranking video, I shall number my thoughts as well! *1.* I love your eyeshadow. You have nice big eyes and an extremely gentle brow (unlike my imposing precipice lol), so even if it's the only dramatic makeup you use it still pops! *2.* I love your use of all that music from *The Guardian Legend* at the end. I pretty much agree with all your rankings, and like you (though I had seen the box in stores and thought the art was cool) I didn't get into the Guardian Legend until I was an adult. *3.* Random *Blaster Master* memory from the Turn-of-the-Nineties/Essentially Eighties: Because the protagonist has such a large head and because I thought *Calvin & Hobbes* should have had a video game, I used to pretend it was the *Spaceman Spiff* video game! *4.* Finally, I'm glad you don't usually swear in your videos. It's funny when James Rolfe and Mike Matei do it, but you project a sense of refined elegance in your carriage and approach to video games, so it really feels (no offense to James & Mike) rather beneath you to be busting out the old sailor talk. That's just my opinion, though.

Interesting rankings. My two main thoughts are: 1) Wow, I really need to give this Felix the Cat game a try if you put it in S tier. I remember you praised it highly in your review but was still surprised to see it ranked in such an essential spot. I just remember seeing a Nintendo Power article about it and not thinking it was anything special, but clearly there must be something to love here. 2) Hard disagree on the placement of Panic Restaurant. I remember a long time ago I liked this game, and would have charitably described it as "a solid platformer." But several years later I played it again, and realized that what I really meant by "solid" was "it doesn't do anything bad, but it also doesn't do anything good." This game gives me no feelings whatsoever, it is like when my friends and I would go out to a cheap pub for dinner and we're all like "How's your food?" and everyone's just like "Fine." This really stuck out to me particularly, because you placed it on the same tier as Kirby's Adventure -- which, to me, is leagues above in quality. Also, you put Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers on a lower tier, saying that it doesn't do anything interesting. My jaw dropped, because Chip n' Dale absolutely has some interesting and unique mechanics, whereas Panic Restaurant just phones it in at every turn, with generic level design and lazy gameplay to boot. Anyway, just my two cents. Always love your videos despite where I may disagree. It was fun to see the rankings!

Great list! I agree with every choice, which almost never happens on these types of videos.

I would move two games to S tier: Maniac Mansion and Deja Vu. The reason is simple. They gave gamers on NES something they had never seen before. Deep stories and interactive adventures. At the time, the graphics were super immersive and the controls felt natural. It was also impressive how much those games fit into a cartridge considering how small the NES sprite memory is. Very cool games for their time. Sure they can seem boring now if you weren't there when they were brand new. :) I totally agree with the rest of your list.

@dbnydnvn Yeah, agreed. They only really censored a few swear words and naughty references. The NES version in return gave us an amazing, improved soundtrack and better graphics. I think it was a win overall. :)

Hearing "The Guardian Legend" music throughout the 2nd part of this just again really makes me hopeful that somehow someday, a reboot happens.

Look up the homebrew The Guardian Legend Secret. Its still the original NES game but much much harder. SO much fun!

I agree with your rankings, I’m glad you have Duck Tales a chance. If you are looking for a great game that mixes genres for the NES I recommend Vice Project Doom. I can see you ranking this game high. Hopefully you get to review it sometime

Hello Pam, this was an awesome ranking video! I think that each grade you gave for the games you reviewed are spot on and it's really neat to see how different folks rank games based on their own opinion. I might do a rank list myself but not in video form since I know nothing about making YT videos. Awesome video like always and you look very beautiful too.

I remember my brother bringing home Journey to Silius home from work so he could play it through and write up the walk-thru for the other Game Play Counselors. Great game!
