I can't hardly remember "life before youtube". It's amazing how many nice people take the time to video a "how to" clip. I can't even estimate how many times youtube DIY videos saved me time & money...and probably personal/property damage! Regarding my new Kayak Hoist System, I finally gave up yesterday trying to route the rope properly. I really appreciate you providing the proper rope route here - clear, concise instructions. Great how to clip. Thanks!

Thanks so much for a really complete, CLEAR instructional video. Based on the really inadequate instructions that came with the hoist system, threading the rope through the safety brake pulley really did look like rocket science. Your video saved me hours of trial and error and a bottle of Tylenol!

Thank you for the video - very helpful and so much better than the instructions that came with this system. Based on some other comments, I did reverse the threading of the first pulley from your video, to match the written instructions. But I have no doubt the pulley would do it's job with either approach. And it was your video that helped make sense of the threading so again thanks! I used this system to hang our very large cargo SkyBox, and it works great. Two additional tips: 1) Don't just use single knots - many safer options like an Ashley stopper knot and 2) be certain that you actually pull ALL the remaining rope through the hole (2:18 in video) BEFORE feeding the end of the rope back up the other hole and continuing. Otherwise, you may find yourself having issues where pulling the line only seems to work on one part of the pulley system. :-) Speaking from experience here, remember the excess rope is just a large loop that needs to pull cleanly through both holes of the clutch / braking system and then secured to your cleat.

Thanks for the visual instruction. I needed it. The paper instruction is worthless. Great video.

Thank you for making this video. The instructions in the box were a mystery with dark pictures not really showing anything very well. We never did figure out what the strange bolts with the rotating centres were for, but the hoist is installed and the kayak put away on it. It would have never been as easy without seeing your video first.

Great shot for feeding the rope through the brake which was confusing in the directions. Thank you!

It took me two times to get threading the second pulley right, but I could not have done it without this video. Thanks a heap!

These instructions worked perfectly for the rad easy kayak hoist. No "alterations" needed, but study the photograph at the very end of the video to get the final configuration of the lines just right.

Despite what some contributors are saying here, this video IS correct. I followed it and mine now works fine. The instructions that came with mine were shite. Totally frustrating. Also 3 out of the 4 TEK screws that came with it snapped despite me drilling pilot holes for them. The pulleys themselves are OK. Thanks very much to HandyMandy for posting this and saving me from digging a small hole in the back yard to bury the whole thing.

Thank goodness I found this very helpful video. The video instructions were straightforward and well photographed. My hoist is now installed and working perfectly.

Thanks for making this video, my instructions that came with my kayak hoist sucked, wasn't sure how the brake system is supposed to be threaded I think I went over the break the first time .

Great video even after 7 years. :) I do recommend that anybody watching should speed the video up to 1.5x. ;D Thanks for the easy to follow instructions!

instructions worked well for me. I bought the rad sports kayak hoist brand which has the same pulley configuration.

I must have done something wrong, but I followed the instructions exactly. I'm 6 foot , 220 lbs and it was all I could do to hoist my kayak after donning a heavy pair of leather gloves. It's up, but it was way harder to hoist than it should be with the pulley system.

Also works for the Extreme Max branded system, which had zero instructions inside the box. Still leaves too much overhead wasted space if nearly 20 inches.

I like this system-what about something for a 3 wheeled recumbent trike? Where can I obtain those fittings? (I am in Australia)

I never had to install a lag bolt before. Would be nice to have at least a drawn picture of how the installation with the lag bolt to a joist works.

This point is where you hire someone to install it for you.

Great how to video. Though the stopper knot you did made me cringe, as I'd be worrying it would tighten decreasing in size and slip through one day. A climbers stopper knot might be better for e.g.

I follow this to the T and it doesn't work correctly. There is too much slack in the rear.

He threads the first pulley INCORRECTLY. Please revise this video. If you doubt me, just look at a picture of the product as it appears in the companies video that just pictures to product.

I concur. Totally backwards on the first one. The knot always goes AWAY from what is being mounted. And this person / company sells these? SMH.

one page black and white unreadable instructions included in package were crap, embarrasing for any company.

@deathbyfungwahbus Actually, I take this back. After trying this method, i found THIS IS INCORRECT. I had to alter it further wasting more time.

Excellent, clear instruction! The damn manual it came with was not very helpful at all.

Installation = Mounting

You don to feed the rope until it is mounted btw you totally did this wrong per the comment below. Folks do NOT use this video as an install guide. The knot goes AWAY from the bully system.
In the instructions, you have a picture of a BLACK rope threaded through a BLACK pully system. Could you not have used a fu****ng WHITE rope just for demonstration purposes? You just can't make this stuff up.
