Hahaha you could feel the relief after pulling into that sanctuary at the end. Takes a lot of focus to remain calm during something like this!

Well handled, but clearly best enjoyed after it's over. The underlying relief at the dock was tangible.

Those waves looked regular and round. Proper positioning when cresting a wave would have prevented water from coming over the sides. There was no reason to have taken water in. Paddling in sync would also help stabilize the canoe.

Heading for shore was likely not possible due to the heavy surf these waves would create at a beach.

Hrmmm, ever consider a layer of foam under a flat deck of plywood and fiberglass or kevlar to make a canoe unsinkable? Like 2-3 inches in the keel then a thin deck? Or even an inflatable floor that straps down, to make it so you can bail the thing out even if its swamped? just enough displacement to keep the rails a few inches above water line if flooded.

I would not bring my recreational kayak out in that, let alone a completely open boat like a canoe.

Well, I've rescued kayakers in Buzzards bay with my completely open boat;)
@mheermance
@mheermance 2 жыл бұрын
@@jonasf4065 Is it a dory with flared sides? That would tend to keep waves out of the boat. A canoe lacks that, or worse has tumblehome to ease paddling. That invites waves to come over the side and into the boat.
