Great video, most of us have learnt this lesson now; a modern image stabiliser on an f4 is way more useful than a 2.8 without one.
@ManFree10219 жыл бұрын
I was going to get the 16-35 f/2.8L, but I ended up with the Tamron SP 15-30 f/2.8. I mean, it's not only cheaper, but it also outperforms the Canon. It opens all the way to 2.8, it has IS, wider than the Canon, absolutely wonderful flare control and it's super sharp, what's not to love? If you are looking for an ultra wide angle and doesn't really mind bit having the red ring, I would highly recommend that lens

Samuel Hung I was considering it but it’s heavier than my canon 70-200 f4. Plus buying a filter holder is bulky on that thing. I’m torn

I use my 16-35mm f/2.8 for night sky shots all the time. That's primarily what I got it for, and it takes better images than the 35mm f/1.4 stopped down to f/2.8.

Liked for the Nikon contest joke. What about the results at f8 or similar apertures though? Does the IS lens still have the edge, or do they produce similar images?
@stefantotev9 жыл бұрын
The 16-35 f4L IS is better at any aperture especially in the corners. Even at f/11-13 the 17-40 and 16-35 2.8 are very soft around the edge of the frame.

If I was looking to shoot at anywhere between 16-40mm then I'm likely to be shooting landscapes or nature at f8-f11, using a tripod if necessary to expose correctly. At these f-stops with a tripod both the fast aperture of the 2.8 and IS of the 16-35 f4 become irrelevant anyway. It depends on what you're using the lens for, but for me I'd be using it for nature/landscape, where I don't need a quick handheld snap and don't want a shallow depth of field. If I was shooting people or something more fast moving, I'd use a longer focal length or probably a prime. The f4 would be my pick.

Sure the L lens are dog's cojones, but L lens are not always in reach of every Tom , Dick or what was your name!?! I ask, as they are ultra ultra wide by comparison to the three you used in this video. Have you compared the two Tokinas together? Keep punning ( oops, panning..! ) us with humourous tech videos!

@Tesla30018 жыл бұрын
don't waste your money. the 18-55 will be sharper than the 17-40 on your crop body. keep Ff lenses to Ff.
@JesusChristIsLord__8 жыл бұрын
Agree with DigitalPatriot. Save your money. The 17-40 is soft from 17-24mm. You kit lens is actually sharper. Don't buy into this L-lens hype because not all L-lens are created equal. The 24-70mm f/2.8 Mark II, for example, is *crazy* sharp. If you want a faster lens, I recommend the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8. This one is much sharper than the kit lens but will only work on crop bodies. If you do decide on this one, make sure to get a good copy as there are a sizable number of bad copies out there.

I think 15-45mm/18-55mm kit lenses good enough for vlog closeups landscape some portrait and 24-105mm as daily driver and 55-250mm/70-300mm for telephoto.
