incredible camera. Canon's autofocus is always golden... I started using DSLRs with the Rebel T3i... Manual focus all the way on that gem. Had black magic firmware on it for some focus peaking, bitrate control, fine tuned shutter speed for video. Now using an EOS-R at a new job and love the autofocus. It has saved me SOO MUCH TIME. I wear many hats at my company so I can't be sitting there getting my focus pulls right. I still do some manual ones but jeez, autofocus is a time saver. I have mad respect for photographers that grew up with manual focus. I also shoot only Manual mode as well...

Thanks Jared! I've been playing with the raw files that you shared and one of the most important things that I've noticed, at least for my work.... seems to have ISO invariance. Pushing up +5 EV to 100 iso pictures, it shows almost no noise in deep shadows. Finally, Canon is at the same level as sony/nikon are in dynamic range. I hope to see the same dynamic range in R5 and R6 series. EOS R is already great, but that's a big step forward.

Venus Tilta already did! From what I’ve seen it’s more of just the software assuming the camera will be overheating after a certain point in time than it actually is the hardware physically overheating. Which means canon is being very conservative with their overheat times. Fingers crossed we’ll see some major updates done to the overheating issues

With the right external objective lens tube there is no reason ANY APS-C or FF camera from canon, Sony, Fuji, etc cannot be used as a 1000x optical microscope which is enough to see blood platelets (2 microns). The limits of optical imaging: Diffraction Limits en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffraction-limited_system HOWEVER, by using purposeful peizoelectric object lens "shaking", you can get AROUND the wavelength limits of light by taking angular slices of sub-micron-level features and using a statistical math function to ESTIMATE the location of a feature in 2D-XY and 3D-XYZ space allowing you to create a synthetic MAP of a surface down to as low as 5 nanometres which DOES allow you to see a virus. Since Coronavirus is a large virus at 120 nanometres, this multi-plane interferometry technique to get around optical wavelength limits WOULD WORK to see even the tiny spikes on the surface of the virion! This means that fancy Canon 1Dx Mk3 camera needs only about another $1500 to $2000 worth of lens elements and peizoelectric motors to make it sub-micron-level microscope! And since the technique is VIDEO friendly! You could take 60 fps 4K at 10-bit 4:2:2 or 120 fps HD videos of their full viral glory! ..

Hi Jared. I watched the video and what I like is that on timeline 32:24 , the camera (although the focusing block is still white and not blue and not on her face as yet) the camera has already placed her face in focus and is sharp, then the focusing block catches up, lock onto her face and turn blue. do I have this wrong ? weren't you pressing the shutter as yet? .... It's as if the camera gets the face in focus and the blue block just follows to ensure you .."YES I've got this."......never the less I thought it was cool

Fantastic video, thank you ! Allot of work was done in this one. I use to shoot Marathon races and little league Baseball and Football. Shooting action Sports can be a frustrating experience if you don't know what you are doing. When I first started my keeper rate was about 20% or less, this after a whole day (9 am-5 pm) of shooting. Once I got the hang of it my keeper rate increased. Continuous AF, AI-Servo and Multiple Frame per second are all important, but so is Timing. You have to be able to time the subject in that millisecond when they momentarily stop, then you press the shutter. Not easy to do when some one is running past you at 15 miles per hour, you are holding a heavy lens often with a Monopod, people are running in front of your subject and you are subject to the elements. I'm sure this camera will be a boon to many Sports photographers. I wish I had it when I was shooting sports. I'm not sure how the Sony renders images, but I remember that comparing the images from the 1D to the images from lesser cameras such as the 40D, or 50D which we also used, was like night and day.

Super happy I got mine early. One maybe obvious thing that wasn’t shown here is that the AF subject tracking not only follows a subject around in a static frame, but it also follows the subject as I move the camera to recompose a given frame. This way I can set the initial AF point with mediocre composition, and whole holding the focus button down, recompose (including zooming in or out) as quickly as I need to, and the focus will still be on the subject when I finally hit the shutter button. Epic.
@froknowsphoto4 жыл бұрын
That’s a given.
@allthecommonsense4 жыл бұрын
Jared Polin I don’t think it is a given. From an engineering standpoint, it’s an entirely different and more difficult use case than tracking a subject moving along a relatively predictable path within a static frame (i.e. a background that isn’t constantly changing due to panning and/or zooming). There is every chance that subject tracking capability could be compromised by certain kinds of background altering events (especially panning & zooming combined) while the subject isn’t moving in a common/predictable trajectory relative to the frame (i.e. photographer moving the camera to re-compose vs. the subject traveling along a mathematically predictable trajectory).
