Just got it couple of weeks ago, and did some street photography with it yesterday. I wouldn't call it a beginners camera. Neither is at top pro camera. The reason I disagree with it being a beginners camera is the lack of features will make it harder to work with and feel demotivating (for some). I started out with a Canon 500D which I believe lack features but has enough to help beginners. And beginners I wouldn't advice to go for this camera as lenses are expensive too unless you pair it with a 50mm 1.8 or something like that. To use the Canon 5D mark 1 you really have to know your settings and know how to pre plan your shots. I sometimes compare cameras to cars. The Canon 5D is like a classic car you wouldn't really daily it (unless you have the time), while modern cameras (like my old A7/A7Riii and now A6400 ) are like the EVs of cameras that give clinical photos, and much better autofocus and more convenient. With that said, I just love the colours out of camera, and enjoy the process. It's not just a hype it really is enjoyable if you know how to work with it.

The 5D forces you to learn the basics of photography. It is like a classic car. You have to know how to drive, use the gears, think ahead when braking or it ends up in disaster. you have to learn quickly and know how to get the best out of it.🤔

I still have mine, had two for a while. While I have a 6D for astro work, the 5 is the digital equivalent of a K1000. It's a tank, and everything that comes out of it looks like film. It really is an amazing camera!

Nice video, glad that church steeple came out level in the end. Very good information. Don't worry about the mirror, if it goes, it probably will go suddenly, mine did. I superglued it back on using 4 tiny dots one in each corner, applied pressured for 30 seconds or whatever the glue instructions said to do, it has been fine for years now. The only odd thing I ran into was that I needed to upgrade the firmware to whatever the last version was in order to deal with larger CF cards. Had the very original old firmware and it shot fine onto a larger card but had a problem during review on the camera, new firmware took care of that just fine. Best wishes! Good work!

You mean before Canon lost its way as regards build quality, the bodies that they are coming out with now are nothing short of scandalous for the price that hard working photographers have to pay for.

@@b.2221 At my age you don't get to fondle a younger Canon very often so I haven't really noticed. So I guess you're right. Everything seems to be be made for a high turnover, just to keep us upgrading and spending more than we need to.

I bought the 5D not that long after it came out, iirc I got it in 2006, paid EUR 2300,- after cash back. This year I bought an R6, paid EUR 1300,- after cash back. Granted, the R6 was already replaced by the R6 mkII, but at that price new it was IMO quite a bargain. The R6 is a completely different experience, especially in terms of AF, including EF lenses (add the cost of the adapter). If you take into account inflation the 5D was more expensive than R6, even on release. R5 is another story, but these cameras are not comparable anymore. A couple of years ago I bought another used 5D, mint condition at EUR 130,- which is a steal, imo. The only feature I really miss, besides a back focus button is AF adjust - the reason why I replaced my original 5D, tired of sending in lenses for recalibration. The 17-40L was one of my first zooms, never really used it that much, good value for money though, although today I would recommend a 16-35/4 IS instead, if you can afford the difference. If you are not picky (pixel peeping etc) there is hardly any bad gear, just buy what you can afford and enjoy. Especially used you can get some real bargains.

This camera isn’t built great either and the ergonomics aren’t good. I love the photos but it’s not an exactly a joy to use like my Nikon d200. I’m sure that canons pro bodies were better but to claim this thing is built well just isn’t true. It’s cheap plastic crap too..

As someone who recently got a 5d Mark II, I'm not really sure how people use it. Auto-focus often can't focus on eyes, no golden hour photography works without grainy 3200 iso, even manually focusing on eyes seems to produce blurry results at f8.0. I must be doing something wrong that new cameras do for me.
@andrewfindlayphoto4 ай бұрын
@@HeyJD123 Low light people photography is beyond the 5D 2 it's one up from a film camera. Set the focus point on the centre square, then use the view finder focus recompose method or Live View at 10X in manual. You're lens might need to be focus sinked / calabrated with the camera (I think that's what it's called. Might be wrong) I wouldn't use any ISO above 1600. Check the diopter is right for your eyes.

I had a 5dm2 but it soon developed a line in pic at high magnifications so traded for 5dm3 which is a much better camera with better video by far. The 5dm2 had terrible moire patterns in video without special anti aliasing filter attached to sensor. But much better is new Canon R8. Focus is wonderful and much improved video that can actually track subjects.
