Effecting the results for sure. So you can post process them as you want. If the video very sharp then you can't remove that from it but if it is not that sharp then you can add that to it in any editing software. Still it is up to you and how do you want it to look in the end.

@DaveHowTo12 жыл бұрын
Hi Stambin. Thats a good lens you are using so your lens is not your problem. If you want the blurred out of focus area behind your subject be sure to set the aperture of the lens to near the maximum ie 1.4 or 2. If the video is too sharp set the picture style to neutral to make it less sharp. If your colors are strange set the white balance to auto. If the color is still strange do a manual white balance. That should cure your problem I hope that helps!

thank you for an excellent tutorial...I learned more in this video than all the t3i ones I've watched. Going to use these settings on a wedding I'm filming next week
@DaveHowTo12 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks! The effect of the blurred background is achieved by using a shallow depth of field with a very wide aperture on the lens. In this case it was a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens at its widest aperture of 1.8. Details of other manual exposure settings for this effect are in the manual exposure video I also did.

Format the card using the camera menu (low level). The camera formats the card in a special way that makes it faster to write the video file. The weird thing is that you need to format the card each time you remove it from the camera to copy the files. Also, use a class 10 card.
@DaveHowTo12 жыл бұрын
yes as teamtakeoff says below you need a class 10 sd card, anything less and you will get a problem when shooting movies. Also when you get the card format it on your camera first before you use it. Hope that helps.
@DaveHowTo12 жыл бұрын
Hi, thaks fo rthe subscription. I used a 50mm 1.8 canon lens filming of myself since it gives a nice out of focus area behind me and is great for portraiture. Although I have a number of lenses I come back time and time again to the 50mm lens since it is so versatile and gives great results. I will do another video soon on lenses since they are a huge part of the fun of using this camera!
@DaveHowTo12 жыл бұрын
To start out filmmaking with this camera on a budget I would suggest getting it with the bundled 18-55mm kit lens cos that gives you a nice range of wide to mid angle shots at a low price. And I would also buy the the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens which is a great quality low price versatile lens which allows you to get the cinematic shallow depth of field look on a budget. It can record at 60FPS in 720p (HD .. but not full 1080p HD mode). Yes shutter speed is completely manual in manual exposure mode.

I've mentioned it in a few other responses, but ideally you want to get something fairly fast. Going by class isn't always reliable. Some companies don't use the same standard of transfer speed per class. You want to shoot for something that does 45 mbs to be safe.

@DaveHowTo12 жыл бұрын
You can use any lens to shoot movies on DSLRS... that's part of the great attraction and fun in using them for film making ! Just to start somewhere at low cost the most useful ones are in my opinion the ones I mentioned and build on those as you get more confident. Long telephoto type lens' are less useful for filming (unless you are filming sports events or wildlife). Also don't forget on crop sensor cameras like the 600D a 50mm lens is actually gonna give a 80mm full frame film view etc.

No problem, if you set the region on your camera to NTSC (USA) then the rate is 50fps. If you change the region to PAL (UK and Europe) then you get the 60 fps. Yes to use slowmo you need to use the 720p setting.

So I went to the store and bought one with it is a 10 speed. 80 MB/seconds and 16 GB memorycard. Stops automatically at 12 minutes recording but thats okay for now. Memory cards are quit expensive here in The Netherlands. In the future I'll buy a better one
@SoftwareAnalayst10 жыл бұрын
Thanx for ur reply. I did some digging too. And found out that u have to take into account the memory card brands as well. Some brands will give u a 10s recording time even if it's class 10. The recommended ones are Transcend and Sandisk. I ordered one last night and hopeful it will fix the pb. As for the 12 mins, canon t3i only allows u to record for that period of time it's a defect. To make it not stop at 12 mins, install magic lantern.

Thanks for the video...on my movie rec. size, I have the option of chossing 1920x1080 and 30 fps...should I choose 30fps instead of 24?...does it make a difference?
@DaveHowTo12 жыл бұрын
Well one option is to use the 1280 50/60 recording size that gives you the 720p recording size which is HD and very good quality just not as "big" as the Full HD 1080p. It gives fine resolution on all pc monitors/you tube etc and even on large screen tvs its acceptable (most digital broadcast HD is now 720p ...). By doing that you can increase the frame rate to 50 or 60. You can also use Magiclantern to artificially increase the frame rate a bit (to 37fps) but its a bit flaky in that regard.

once you are hooked on lenses it becomes a mini obsession and like us all you can spend a small fortune :). For example a great top quality all-round zoom lens for video or photos is the Canon 24mm-104mm "L" lens.. but top Lenses are expensive.. that one is about 600 pounds. Other higher quality 50mm lens is the Canon 50mm 1.4 (about 250GBP) or the best 1.2L(1000GBP). You can have a look also at the mixing cheaper 2nd hand Nikon lens with adaptors, there are many bargains on ebay

What are the best settings for indoor filming? My videos look way too bright and i dont think i have them in the right settings, if you take a look at my latest videos you can see how white the background is :(
@thisisrogertv8 жыл бұрын
make sure you turn down your iso. also turn Down your aperture. Rule of thumb, if your fps is set to 24fps then your shutter should be set to 1/48 or 1/50. the idea is to double the shutter speed of whatever the fps is set too. So if your shooting at 60 fps then you set your shutter to 1/120.

What settings do you suggest to avoid noise in low light videos? I use 50fps to avoid light flickering and do smooth slow motions in editing. But I can't set shutter speed to 1/50 (as I read somewhere is the best setting for low light shooting) because it stuck to 1/60 and doesn't go under. What shall I do?
@DaveHowTo11 жыл бұрын
Its almost impossible to avoid noise in low light/shadows on most DSLRs (though the 5DMKIII comes close!) SO the best thing to make your life much easier is to invest a small amount in NEAT video noise reduction software. It works great, is quick,and works as a plugin in Premiere and After effects as well as many other editors
@DevilKiller10011 жыл бұрын
Dave HowTo I already have it but I am pretty sure that a lot of people doesn't even use it and they obtain a very great result with canon 550D and maybe the 50mm, f/1.8 lens. I just ask my self how they can?
@DaveHowTo11 жыл бұрын
Most videographers use noise reduction in post for dark shadow areas, its a standard part of post production in those situations and the results are excellent. To improve your shots in addition you should not go above iso 1600 (try lower) and also consider lighting your scene
