Canon 6D Mark II Announced! - Will I be getting one?

After 5 years, Canon has finally released the successor to my favorite camera - the Canon EOS 6D Mark II

Sounds like a sweet little camera. I'm liking the articulated screen as it does come in handy for angled shots etc. I'm still shooting with the 7d.

I was pretty furious when it was officially announced, but after thinking about it I realize that it is a solid stills camera with some workarounds for it's shortcomings. I might get one when the price comes down.

I am willing to upgrade to 6D mark II. 4K to me is more hype than necessity. Sensor heating and huge file sizes are some of the problems associated with 4K, I'd rather have a robust camera that will work for years to come than a camera that only looks good on paper.

To be honest, i was actually waiting for the canon 6d mark ii to be released for a long time, but after the release of the canon 5d mark iv; I was quite disappointed by the lack of innovation that canon failed to offer. So, instead i bough a Sony a7ii + a few lenses and i've be quite happy with the switch.

Sony is doing a really good job right now! I'd love for them to drastically improve their battery life, even beyond what they've done with the A9.

1- Why this instead of a smaller mirrorless camera like the Sony A7R2, A9 or Fuji X-T2 ? 2- Do you expect any return on investment buying this camera ? I.e. It feels like too much of a camera (too big, too heavy, too expensive) for someone doing travel and family photos. When you will look at your pictures 5 or 10 years later you won't really care if it had been taken with an iPhone a RX100 or a full frame. Only the souvenir, what the picture will remind you of will count. Unless you are a professional photographer and so it is your job to take an sell pictures. I went for the minimalist road and downsized everything, bought a good compact camera. Now I am enjoying the journey even more.

1. As a complete camera (photo and video), the Fujifilm cameras still don't make the cut. White the Sonys fit the bill in terms of features, I'm still turned off by the tiny battery. This might be a personal thing but seeing a low battery indicator multiple times during a single day bothers me. Until Sony sorts out their battery, I'll don't think I'll be switching to them. 2. If you've handled a Canon 6D before, it's not that big at all. I'd even say SIGNIFICANTLY smaller and lighter than a 5D camera. I agree that for most people, any camera that they've bought in the last several years could potentially last them a lifetime. Even the camera on you smartphone will do for most cases. With the work that I do using my camera, the small upgrades will certainly make a difference. Is it the camera that I'll ultimately be getting? I'm still not 100% sure, but I've been happy with my Canon 6D and the features they've added are the exact features I wanted more from the original 6D.

Probably is not a very good answer, and you are the target market! I think it is a great camera but if you have a 6D already you might be better of getting a a6500 just for video or investing in better glass and getting an 80D. Is the 6Dii going to hold up another 4-5 years? Canon has to be working on a FF mirrorless, just wait for that.

Yep. I've been a crop sensor user for four years now and have in vested in lenses. Since I am less inclined to buy another crop sensor, my next natural step ws FF. However, with this new camera price, there is an option to buy a 5DIII. But my preference is this.

45 cross type lumped in the centre is no good for portraits where focusing on the eye with fast glass is essential. (Unless you want all your portraits face only 😂)

Not the best, but certainly a nice upgrade! In reality, all DSLRs have the AF points near the center. You'll have to go mirrorless if you want will coverage. With the new Canon 6D, the live view and quick dual pixel AF certainly covers you for those times you need to focus quickly and accurately on areas outside the 45 AF points.

Don't make a mistake of updating to 6D Mark II, but switch to Sony instead. Canon is so behind on video side.

If you're looking for the best video camera, Sony might be the way to go. In fact, I wouldn't even consider the Canon 6D if I was just looking for a camera for video. That being said, if you want that fully articulating screen and better video AF, the nod still goes to Canon. It really depends what you're after and I don't think Sony is the right answer for everyone.

I would have liked to see the 6D Mark II priced at $1600-1700, but you really can't say there's anything on the market like it. You'll know if you don't need it, but you'll also know if you do need it. Definitely not for everyone, but as a happy 6D user, this is a great upgrade and I'm sure lots of people will be happy with it as well. I initially thought I'd upgrade to the Mark II, but I'm going to wait it out a little longer and see what the Sony a7III will have to offer.

A bummer, but certainly not a deal breaker IMO. I'm more bummed about the 2 card slots.

CamCrunch you are correct. Both of those issues impact the usefulness of this camera for video purposes. I think I could get around the lack of a headphone by shooting double system sound with a separate recorder.

I'm wondering if it's possible to do live wifi/blutooth jpeg exports while shooting to get some sort of instant backup on a phone or tablet.

You can back up picks to the Canon app on an Iphone or Android, but I don't think you can do it live while shooting. You would probably have to stop shooting, connect the camera and phone, and then select the pics you want to back up

I don't watch anything in 4K at the moment, and 99% of the world doesn't either so it doesn't bother me at the slightest. I would like some higher frame rates though 😫
