I bought a second hand 80D a few years ago. I bought a new 90D in March of 2023. Having both now is very convenient on a shoot where I take both. Moving between them is seamless because they are so similar. I have them both set up the same way. So if you have an 80D I would recommend buying a 90D if you want or need a second camera.

A major issue with the 90D is that it’s an old camera but they are still asking for $1,100 unlike the 80D that you can find for around $500.

@@davidodonovan4982 Do you mean that you still prefer the 80D or the 90D? The 90D can shoot 4K. However, (although it take hours) you can upscale the 1080 video shot on the 70D, 80D and it looks sharp as a tack. It has good color saturation and very accurate. If you are a professional, three are other (newer) cameras to shoot with. For everyone else who makes photography a hobby, you really can’t go wrong with Canon 70, 80, 90D cameras. The best part is that the glass has come down in price as well. You can even find off-brand glass for next to nothing. My only concern going forward are batteries. I have rigged up mine to handle external batteries and they last for hours. If I am shooting inside, I plug into the wall. So like I said, these older cameras are super nice and affordable. I highly suggest anyone getting into photography to NOT by the latest and greatest equipment.

Yes, I think upgrading to a 90D is a good idea to have almost 2 similar cameras. The difference of resolution in video filming will be unnoticed and this is a very important pro. The other pro is the easier way to deal with settings and functions.

A higher ISO ceiling isn't really a con ... if you don't like the result, you simply don't shoot at that ISO. At worst, it's a neutral feature. A "pro" is demonstrated by the video: the noise performance at a given ISO is better in the 90d than the 80d. It's generally risky to push any APS-C beyond ISO 3200, so the upper range is fairly meaningless.

My 80D recently stopped working, the repair quote was more than double the cost of a good, used 80D. So I opted for a used 90D body as its replacement. It has a shutter count of 1000, looks like new. The first thing that struck me about the 90D was the general feel of the camera in your hands, it is far more ergonomic. The build quality feels more robust & shutter sounds are quieter. I have yet o use it out in the field, but impressed so far. $800 well spent, I hope (Repair for 80D was $750!!- Owch!).

It’s a great camera, especially for those who don’t have the money to shell out for a higher pro level camera. This model has plenty of pro features and will still provide great photos. Great content. Not too many people provide good opinions of this camera.

Most of the newly added features are for making videos. It's for low budget filmmakers. But, sure, it can still be use for taking photos, but I believe you won't appreciate the full capability of the camera if you're only using it for that purpose.

Just bought an 80D with a shutter count of 144. It is basically brand new and I am very pleased with it. At this time I cannot justify the expense of upgrading yet.

Yes, both cameras use the LP-E6 or LP-E6N battery. Same size.

I had the 50D... but with only cheap kit zoom lenses... I was disappointed. // A lot of the IQ you will get comes from the quality of the lens you use. // I seen recent videos - late 2023, 2024 of people raving about the 40D, 50D, 60D. I have the 70D and the 90D... The 70D is great for photography with great color science. The 90D is great for AF and low(er) light photos. This is with Canon lenses of F/2.0 or faster.
