"R" means the shutter is released, "L" means power disconnected, between R and L means shutter lock.

If you put on "R", pull the trigger and while pulling you put it on "•" it will continue filming even if you release the trigger.

Great video, thanks! I've been considering getting a super 8 for a long time but haven't bothered to get into it. However, next week I'm planning on going on a trip so it'd come in handy. Finally, I found someone who sells this camera. Can't wait to use it!!

if i don't put in batteries for the light meter, will i be able to do manual exposure? My light meter needle won't drop below f4 and when i removed the batteries, the light meter is still working the same as if the batteries are still in there.
@jcarter40733 жыл бұрын
'R' means remote. A cable remote so you can film yourself from a distance away from the camera.

the reading would be completely wrong they are 3V only with air cells or a voltage regulator circuit it will properly make the exposure. and you can get that for a £30 or get an external light meter.
@razareg48664 жыл бұрын
Well, at least you're not wrong with that info. In fact, I think that the best type of light meter battery for this camera would be the original, although they're hard to find and you will have to buy them online. As of the moment, it will take longer to get those batteries due to the ongoing pandemic. The cheapest 625 type batteries I can find as of the moment are from B&H Photo Video, but they are out of stock as of the moment and will take several days before they are available again. The 625 type batteries on eBay are expensive, and I think using the light meter in the camera is easier than using an external light meter for convenience purposes.

Actually, how will the result be different if I use a 3v battery vs two 1.35v (2.7v) 625 batteries? What will be the difference?
@Johnslyy4 жыл бұрын
Razareg so do you use 2pieces of 1.3v or just 1 piece of 3v?

Will the automatic exposure feature still work if you don’t have batteries for the light meter?
@razareg48664 жыл бұрын
You need batteries that will work with the light meter in order to get the automatic exposure to work.

I was gifted a Canon 518 Super 8 last week but I can't get to the old battery in the handle due to severe oxidation (maybe it's the battery acid?). I've tried everything and I can't get it to open. Am I the only one with this problem??

You can buy from from B&H or a nonprofit called mono no aware (it's cheaper there I think) they will also develop and scan your stuff (they also have developing kits you can purchase). Metroplis post does really high quality scans but it is a bit pricey.

Thanks for the info. I think Pro8mm has the best services though for developing and scanning the film

If I put mine on "R" it starts the motor doing loud shutter noise even if I don't press the trigger. But when I press it the noise is lower. Any idea of what is happening? Anyone else had same problems?
