I buy a canon battery grip with every new camera. I keep my camera for a long time and have never had the canon battery fail me. For me, I think the investment in the name brand grip is worth it.

I have been going back and forth over this same issue for some time now. Thank you SO MUCH for the best, in-depth review I have seen. I think if any of us were to handle these items in person, and compare, the choice would be obvious. this video is the next best thing. I just ordered two official canon grips. now, two to go. that's right, I'm buying times 4 !

Thanks for this review as I have recently purchased a 80D that I intend to use for the photo booth part of my business I am currently setting up. As I will be taking I a lot of photos I have been considering whether to buy the Canon grip or a 3rd party one. The 3rd party one I purchased for my 550D has stood the test of time and never failed me. However as I am going to use the 80D in a more professional manner I have been torn between which to get, especially with limited funds. After watching this video several times and hearing the differences I think the choice has to be the Canon even though it about 5 times the price and heavier. Sometimes quality is worth the price. Thanks for a great review and I will be going through your videos to see what else you have posted

Great review Joe, and I have the Canon one, and am glad I paid the extra for it. No complaints, but I have a friend who bought the cheap one, and it broke and wasn't working in less than a year.

Hey Kevin, yea when I thought about doing this review. I though, everyone knows they are better. But the real question many have is how much better they are. So I think this will end up being a pretty popular video as it answers more questions then an average review would. :-)

Great review Joe I love the comparison you did you did fantastic the one thing you have to realize about the double a holder since I'm a wildlife photographer I go into areas where there is no power and when you go to an area where there's no power carry plenty of AA batteries with you , and let me tell you one thing right now Joe the AA battery tray has worked good for me is rescued me when I haven't been able to check into a hotel and use a charger and a wall .

Good video, I always say nothing better than the original, but sometimes the monetary situation makes us opt for the cheapest. Nothing,....I have an EOS 77D Canon and if I would like to buy an original battery grip for Canon. But so far I don't know if for that model (77D) specifically canon manufacturers it, because I have not managed get any. Most likely I end up buying one of those generic battery grips for my canon 77D. Could you please recommend me one? Any help will be very well appreciated

Wanted to know if there is a button to change ISO? The work around I have is to use the SET button on the main body to change ISO. But when shooting in vertical mode with the grip, this is still a bit of an awkward hand stretch. Thanks!

Was looking for more input and opinion on how the 3rd party performed, not so much observations on texture feel, but thanks for doing the comparison anyway
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
They perform exactly the same. Thats why I did not compare any performance. On Canon battery grips, there is no performance increase or benefit from 3rd part or from OEM. Even the performance of the camera stays exactly the same with or without a grip. Hope this helps.

Promaster makes a great third party grip for the 70/80d. I personally have the canon BG for my 80D but i can vouch for the promaster grip. Some third party grips also have issues with making functions on the camera go haywire.

I had a Vello grip for a Nikon D810 and never chose to use it. I read a number of reviews that it fried the camera. It seemed well made though. It looks like the canon replaces the batteries in the camera. I like that idea. I have to have a battery in the camera even though I have the grip. I ended up getting the Nikon grip and like it.
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
Hey Vali, yea Nikon does there grips differently. With Nikon you get a performance increase in frame rate. With Canon you do not. But at least you do not have to take the grip off to change the internal battery. :-)

how long does the battery last when using the double AA battery tray feature compared to 1 or 2 lpe6n battery?
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
Hello Ellbert, I have not tested to see how long they will work. This is becuase the AA battery tray is not intended for daily use and only for extreme weather conditions were your normal camera batteries may fail. Like extreme cold. Normal alkaline batteries will hold up a little better in the cold. So the cold weather will also effect the number of shots. But if you check Canons website out they may list the estimated number of shots. Hope this helps.

The camera I have is the Canon eos rebel t6, canon and many other brands make battery grips for the t3, t5, and t6.. but on the t6 the sd card slot is not on the side bu in the battery compartment. So would a battery grip really be practical?
@JoeJacksonJr7 жыл бұрын
That is a very good question and something that you have to ask yourself. Do you need more battery life vs camera SD Card storage. If yes then possibly a grip would be for you. Now on the T6 grips to use the shutter button on the grip you have to plug in a separate shutter cable. Which can be an issue if that is something you need. Keep in mind many Nikon grips only house one battery and the other is still up in the camera. IMHO for a T6, I would just carry a extra battery around and just forget about the battery grip unless you have really large hands and it becomes an ergonomic issue for you.

@JoeJacksonJr6 жыл бұрын
This (moire) is a problem with all digital cameras. It should become less of an issue after the average consumer cameras hit about 100MP, but thats not going to be for another decade or so.

Thank you for the review. Can you please tell, where did you purchase your genuine grip? I've checked on amazon, adorama and even on Canon US store, and everywhere images show the grip without "Canon" logo on the front of it. I've just received grip from eBay, which was advertised as a genuine canon, but seems to be a fake, so I'm trying to know as much as possible about differences between fake and genuine grips and are there any differences between genuine Canon grips, manufactured for different regions. I've watched several unboxing videos and only in one of them grip had that "Canon" logo in front and that video was in Japanese...

I actually got mine from Amazon. It is sold by Amazon, from Canon. The link to it is in the description. I believe the new ones with Canon on them are a newer production of the current model now with the Canon branding on the grip. Even the photos in the product link does not show it on Amazon. But newer stock should all have them I believe. Hope this helps.

I'm one of those who figured why to spend so much for the canon one when for more than 2/3 less I can buy the off-brand. Well, there's one thing you did NOT mention and that's about how the off-brand grip will drain your battery's when not in use. Many times I get to a gig and go to use my camera and I have half battery life or even sometimes have NO power but when I charge the battery's and don't use the grip they last for a long time.
@JoeJacksonJr5 жыл бұрын
Hello Vincent, thanks for commenting. Its been awhile since I made this vide, I may have forgot to mention that. There is a off switch on the grips that will prevent the drain. But the generic grip I had never drained my batteries. Though I have read many complaints about many of the generic ones doing just that. Going back to the switch, even though you can turn the grip off. If I had to depend on that switch I know would straight up 9 out of 10 times forget to use it. Another point to use the Canon one :-)

I was a Part time Wedding Photographer for 25 Yrs,…Nice to have a Hobby “Pay for itself” ). I Still have Both The 40D & 7D cameras with the “Battery Grips” always installed, But one is a Generic Brand, the other, an Original CANON. Neither Grip has EVER “Let me Down”,…So My Opinion is That Unless you Turn Photography into a (Profitable$$$$) endeavor, Then You’ll be Just as Well off with a “Quality” Generic Battery Grip…👍😎

I'm guilty of buying knock-offs too! most times their functional, but they almost never last. But at this point, most people aren't hanging on to their camera bodies for very long any more. Everything in the consumer market is so throw away now.

I debated with myself over whether I should purchase the OEM grip or a 3rd party grip for my Nikon D7200. After considerable research I opted for the OEM Nikon Grip. It works and fits flawlessly and much like your experience with the Canon grip it is built substantially better than any of the 3rd party grips. The price difference between OEM and 3rd party is considerable but like most cheap things it often ends up being a false economy.
@oo0Spyder0oo8 жыл бұрын
Seriously Canon and the others can do better with their pricing if they don't want clones breaking into their profits. I would buy the oem most times if it's within reason. The price difference here just makes me think 'greed'.
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
Yea I think if Canon just brought these down to say $99 USD, they would sell like hotcakes and still be extremely profitable for them..

Are you trying to decide if you should shell out the cash for the official Canon BG-E14 battery grip for the EOS 70D & 80D. Or perhaps save a ton of cash and go with a cheaper generic third party battery grip? In this video we review and go into a in depth comparison of a generic grip and the Canon made battery grip. Canon BG-E14 Battery Grip (Official): amzn.to/2jznpd3 Neewer BG-E14 Replacement Grip (Third Party): amzn.to/2jzGwnd * Both brands work with the EOS 70D & 80D. * #canon #bg-e14 #review

@-WhizzBang-2 жыл бұрын
So basically, you are paying over 200$ more for the canon grip just for a bit more metal in it. Big deal, I don't plan on using the battery grip as a hammer. I would still rather pay $50 for the Neweer grip on Amazon, it has all the same features.
