David Seeger no usable autofocus. And that was something I found really important to include as this is the biggest selling point of the camera.

Loved this, great video and I appreciated the references and comparisons to other manufacturers. Also B&H has a sale on the B version right for only $4000. That makes it very tempting for me as I was looking to get a BMPCC6K rig it out buuutttt... now I have a big decision to make. Thanks for this video ! Just what I needed to see

Thanks for the comparisons. I have been considering buying C200, but wasn’t sure if it was the best bang for the buck. Your video was very helpful. I’m a novice to film making and self taught. What I would use the camera for would be short films and small independent features. Most of the time my crew is me so I do need the auto focus. Thanks again!

Hey Damien and everyone else. I think you have done a great job here, lots of people in similar positions with Canon' current line up. This might sound crazy, but the C100mkii is actually pretty epic for its price point now, like second hand $1500 euro? ND's, twin XLR mic, duel pixel auto focus, face tracking (with some efs lenses) C log, super easy editing, leaves the C-log from the eos R standing, also with the 4K down-sampled 1080, looks great. With a bit of sharpening, looks almost exactly like the 4K 8bit from the C200. Like you say upload it as 4K on KZbin and man... Hardly tell the difference. 1.5K euro vs 8K euro... That's a lot of camera for your money!

Hi George, i agree with you, i'm currently dabating on a c100ii second hand or a bmpcc 4k with the speedbooster x0.64.

@@RiseHigh Hey, with out question, the BMPC4K will give a sharper image... However is every other way the C100mkii I think will be better. I think it depends a lot on what you have used before, are you used to auto focus in video? (I've done manual focus in video before and will never go back from Duel Pixel) and the end use of your work, where and how will be seen, do your clients ask for 4K? Plus production time... I think if for personal use and time/money is not a factor... Then BMPC4K, but for commercial work... Production times and turn around time can be high on the list. For me at leased, the C100mkii is the right camera/budget. Having said all that... I will be looking at the C300 mkiii, but the business numbers need to add up for that sort of investment. Lastly... The 1080 from the C100mkii is not 1080 as you know it from a DSLR/Mirrorless camera, it is in a different league.

Thanks for your Input. But for me: C300 Mark II all way long. Price difference to the C200 is only 1200 Euros. XF-AVC Intra: 410, 225, 220, or 110 Mbps great Codec. For Docu work run hard to beat. It is so reliable with manageable file sizes. If I would need raw, than the C200. Germany is pretty much Sony land, but for docu and travelling the C300 is a great tool.

What about the Canon XF705? It’s about $7000 here in the US, seems like it falls in a similar area as the C200.

I believe that if you buy a Atomos Ninja with the EOS R and get the EF adaptor with the ND built in it gets pretty close to the C200. Still, not a cinema camera, but amazing value for the price. I think that's what I am going to do this year and invest on RF lenses for later on buy the R5 or R6

I hear you. I could totally get over the crop and using the Ninja, but since the camera doesn't have 4K60 and can't record HD externally that just wasn't good enough for me :/ I do have an RF lens to sell btw :D

I also use EOS R with ninja v, but if shoot in indoor with low light, the ISO of EOS R is too much noise

as someone who has c200 + bmpcc4k - i REALLY like braw and how great IQ Pocket 4K has. Ursa Mini G2 has everything c200 has + 120in 4.6k + anamorphic mode BUT no AF - I mean it would be really cool to go up to c300miii at some point but maybe it is a good move to stop thinking about the gear for a year or two - become better cinematographer while saving the money and buy the next FF c700 which will probably combine the best of the three worlds from c500mii + c300miii + r5? - FullFrame 8k, 120fps 4k, is, anamorphics, af) - maybe the perfect camera?

and it will cost my first born :D But you're right. The G2 is amazing but no AF. And for this video I felt like a huge amount of the C200 userbase relies on AF a lot. I just moved to a camera without AF so interested to see if it will hinder me a lot when shooting

Enjoy your channel and your insight on the Canon C200. I transitioned from camcorders to DSLR's for video a number of years ago and my primary camera was the Canon 60D. I then was able to move up to the original C100 and loved it. I changed jobs and had to use Sony mirrorless, the A7rii, and the A7iii. I loved the full-frame advantages but really missed Canon. There menus, colors, and especially the cinema form factor. Because of the world situation, I was laid off and now back on my own. After much consideration, I am getting the Eos R as I need a stills camera as well as a cinema camera. In your comments you suggested if possible to get the C200 B camera. Do you think losing the touch screen interface isn't really a big deal? I would love to eventually have 2 cameras that work well together and the Eos R and C200 seem like a great choice. Again thanks for your great reviews and insights into your experiences with these cameras.

sorry to hear you got laid off. And yes, the C200 and the EOS R work great together. We ran this setup for a year! And I thought I would miss it at first but in reality I never used it ever! The only thing it is useful for is if you want to rack focus from one subject to the next. Which can easily be done manual when you want to. But having a bigger and brighter screen is so much more useful than the touchscreen!

komodo has no audio control, no internal nd's, no reliable af, takes over 23 seconds to boot, menus are horrible and the touch screen is slow and feels like using a 15 year old phone, its bad in lowlight, the crop is massive when you do slowmo as the sensor size becomes almost as small as your phone. The competition is too agressive for the komodo to stay relevant. The only reason to buy one if you already own a red camera and you are looking for a B cam to easily match your images. But if you're looking for a first new cinema camera, there are a lot of much better options out there. C200 being one of them. C70 also with it's DGO sensor.

Starkes Video wie immer. Was mich aber immer so ein bischen nervt ist, dass selten erwähnt wird, dass man selbstverständlich auf einem externen Recorder wie z.B. dem Ninja V auch in 4k 10Bit 422 aufnehmen kann( normal 4k nicht cinema), was die Lücke zu den internen Codex schliesst. LG Dirk

umh, ich bin jetzt ziemlich sicher, dass das eben nicht geht. Sondern nur in 1080. Habe es auch gerade nochmal nachgeschaut. Du kannst kein 4K extern aufzeichnen mit der C200

@@damiencooper es geht ganz sicher. Einstellung HDMI max Auflösung 3840x2160 Hauptaufnahme XF-AVC Eingang im Ninja V UHD Prores 422 10 Bit über HDMI. Hab mir gerade die Metadaten der Datei in Resolve angeschaut und die sagen 3840x2160 Prores 422 man das Ganze in 50 oder 25 FPS machen 😉Kann dir auch gerne einen Link zu der datei senden

Gutes Video mit guten Standpunkten. Ich kämpfe mich seit ein paar Wochen auch durch den Markt, aber ich komme am Ende immer wieder bei der C200 raus weil sie mMn immer noch das meiste bietet in diesem Bereich. Wird also ziemlich sicher auf eine hinauslaufen, dein Video hat mich jetzt auch nochmal bestärkt. Viele sehen ja in den CFast Karten ein Problem wegen deren Preis, aber dafür gibts ja mit den CFast to SSD Adaptern auch eine gute Alternative;)

The DPAF makes the C200 hard to beat for small crews. And out of curiosity why didn’t you add the Black magic ursa mini 4.6k?

Exactly! That's why I put so much emphasis on the DPAF when choosing the competition. As for the Ursa mini. I have never touched an Ursa mini in my life ;)

It is an absolute awesome camera! Will bring out more Lut packs eventually! The C200 Lut pack is still our go to when grading C200 footage ;)
