This video is leaving out a lot of information thus far about the C300 Mark II. This camera does shoot internal 4K, 2K and of course 1080. The early comparison clips were like comparing apples to oranges in that they seemingly compared a 4K raw clip from the C200 to a 1080p clip from the Mark II.

I owned the C200, amazing camera!! Raw footage is just espectacular. I just want to mention that when you’re shooting to an external monitor on 2k prores 10bit the footage doesn’t look as good as it does even internally on 4:2:0 8bit. The 2k 10bit footage I just shitty, you can still used the footage, but you will definitely notice the drop in quality and sharpness. In my opinion it feels like proxy footage. I would not count on using 2k prores footage out of the c200. The beauty of this camera is hands down the internal 12bit raw footage. Overall is a remarkable camera. Love my C200. I even edit the raw clips straight into premiere. It’s just beautiful all you can posible do with raw files!

best accessory for the C200 is the Cfast to SSD Solid Pod. Get about 3 hours of raw on that bad boy!

I'm planning on doing a lot of green screen work, what camera do you recommend between c200 ii vs ursa mini pro? There won't be skin tones to deal with, mainly just objects. I'd really appreciate your opinion since the Ursa mini pro can shoot 422 pro res internal and has a built in monitor, I don't need the autofocus really, thus I was thinking the Ursa could be a great lower budget option for me.

people seem to miss that the c200 can shoot 4:2:2 10bit. You just have to use an external recorder and it can only shoot at 2K

Just the video I needed to see. Thank you, Rubidium! Did you guys not go in depth a bit on the Dual Pixel AF because they are both the same? Was thinking that the C200 had a few better features. Also, low light would be the same for the two cameras? Cheers mate! Although I am American, I can say that because I lived in Sydney for two years! :) By the way, after seeing the new price of the C300 2...I think it is a no brainer to get that. If I order it through your link do you get something for that? I want to make sure you are compensated for it!

These cameras are over-kill for weddings. Plus you can’t equip it with a compact 28-450mm lens which you need for weddings.

do either of you know for sure how many stops of latitude these cameras have? I think Canon claimed 15 stops but sites like cinema5D have tested it to have around 12. Which is right in your opinion?

I think the debate there was about 'useable' stops of range. The bottom 2 or 3 stops on clog2 can be very grainy, but they are there. If you need them, you can always clean them up in post. What's more important for me is roll off - if you overexpose, how organic is the transition to white. The c200 is very nice and film like, though Arri is still king here.

Also the c300 is “broadcast ready”? What does that mean, c200 isn’t broadcast ready? I’d love to hear more about that. Thanks!

I'm personally not a fan of external recorders. You triple your chance of losing footage by introducing more devices. The 'broadcast' ready means 10 bit internal, which the c200 doesn't have.

MXF only gives a marginally better quality and is harder to work with (less compatible). Its main use is as a proxy format when you're shooting Raw (it can have the same title as the raw, the mp4 doesn't)

you can record the HDMI signal from the c200 onto something like an Atomos Ninja. It's still 420 in 4k or 422 in 2k via SDI.

Great video, thanks a lot! I am in the process of buying a C200 myself and have a really stupid and noob question but.. i will ask anyway simply because I dont know about it or how this camera works. When shooting RAW, are any video profiles or LOG modes selectable or can/need to be applied (like when shooting MP4), or because its RAW, basically is just RAW straight out of the sensor with no procession and end of story? Does raw even use the gamma and color space? Like could you switch profiles on raw? I didn't think so, but just was curious since I've never shot raw before.

Raw is the undebayered sensor data, so no, it doesn't. It is clog2 as far as latitude is concerned, but you're right that it doesn't possess a native gamma.

IN all the camera comparisons no one ever mentions the one important difference in the 2. Netflix does NOT approve the c200 and will not down the road. Only the c300 can be used of these two cameras. That is a very important factor in deciding between them.

Sounds silly but I have a question about movement - From the videos I've seen, the C300 mkii's video appears to move very smooth (I think Sony A7s series features the smoothest movement even at 23.978fps), however, the C200's smooth seems to be a little... stuttery. I JUST brought the C200 and I noticed this straight away... The feels that is needed is that cinematic buttery smooth movement but all shot in RAW, but I am definitely not getting it. However, I feeling is the issue could be the settings... So my question is: have you noticed this issue? Is it really an issue? If it's actually a setting that needs to be corrected, can you let me know what setting is better for a beautiful cinematic movement, please? This is a Cinema camera so I really want Cinematic movement. If it's not a settings issue (if it is settings, please tell me the best settings to solve this problem), please let me know how to solve this via post. Thanks!

Yeah I have that feeling as well. Haven't done any tests but motion seems different than on the fs7 that I shot for the last two years. Only explanation I have is the electronic shutter the problem here

Oh boy. This is painful, and I just purchased the camera too. You know, considering long capturing in RAW is no longer an issue now (thanks to CFast 2 SSD units), I believe the real reason that Netflix didn't include the Canon C200 into their recommend or qualified camera listing is probably due to this issue. I feel sad... After spending over $8,000 on this camera, I want that cinema buttery movement and it's incredibly unfair that it's achieved on a Sony As7 and other cams and not on this one. If anyone have any solution to workaround this big problem, please let us know here. Crossing fingers that it is strictly a settings issues because I don't think there are any solutions in Post, and I don't want the image to appear more ugly via Frame Blending.

I really haven't noticed it. It might be your shutter angle or frame rate, or a conflict tween camera settings and timeline settings in your editor/transcode.

Alan's EFs lens is not a L-series Lens. Canon just have EF & RF mount lenses in the L-series family.

Absolutely. The 8bit 420 off the c200 is better than 90% of the 10bit images out there.

Netflix, they dont respect and have not C200 on their list of cameras:-(I always thought perfect quality of picture "by eyes" ,what I see etc and main power of story of your film is important and not codecs:-(so now as indie filmmaker I dont know if is C200 good for me, I am ready to invest my money to better cinema camera to present my work on festivals or try offer to TVs, but I dond know what camera (s) to buy, because f.e. I admit I am personally absolutely satisfied with quality of video from my A7RII and A6300 in Clog2 and sony video zoom lenses, but I have only 8bit 4.2.0 100Mb/s, (even with external recorder only 8bit),so I am affraid to make something -short film etc and than to find, that it was useless work for nothing ,only lost, because of stupid codecs?!!!:-(nobody will for this respect my work:-(And I have not Hollywood budget of course...And these days as Sony showed A7RIV with the same poor codecs and now expensive FF SONY PXW-FX9V I dont believe of better codecs (or raw) in their mirrorless even in follower of A7S line and I feel deceive from Sony brand , They in 2019 are not able to give us codecs as old GH5?!, shame!!!A lot of us gave away a lot of money to E-mount lenses and was hoping of 10 bit 4:2:2, 50p etc…:-(

Yep, but they did a good job. Just two buddies talking mostly off script. The footage for both cameras in 1080 is amazing. You have a few more options with the C300 MKII. Just do a few searches around KZbin for footage for both cameras. There’s some nice stuff out there. I’ve seen some awesome color grading on the C200 4K RAW footage. Only thing is having to deal with the larger files. I believe it outputs 2K external to a monitor and an Atomos can give you ProRes.
