Canon Digital Rebel XS (1000D, Kiss F) Video 2: Operation | Take Photos, Modes, Battery, Memory Card

The Canon EOS Rebel XS (EOS 1000D, Kiss F) was a capable and feature-packed, for its time, entry-level DSLR. The camera provided a number of important features such as ultrasonic sensor cleaning and acceptance of SD cards instead of CF cards, that made it a much more accessible and usable camera for a general and entry-level audience.
This three-part series provides a near-complete rundown on how to use the Canon EOS Rebel XS. The first video covers the camera's general layout and interface and provides a summary of the camera's place in history and what everything on the camera is. The second video provides a detailed manual on how to use all the functions and what they do to affect and influence your photography. Well, this is from that 2000s era so it should be right up your alley. For the red eyes, check out the section in this video on flash and that should explain how all the flash modes work and what you need to do for that look.

That neutral parameter you’re recommending in the styles menu. Am I correct in thinking that only applies to JPEG, And if you use one of the other styles it wouldn’t have an effect on RAW images?

I think the photo mode you're asking about is just the photo mode dial on top. For people, center-weighted metering works and then the rest is how you control the light.

@@paulcomissiong7133 Can do. It's on custom function 9. The index in the video will take you right there. In a nutshell, options 1, 2, and 3 for CF 9 affect how the asterisk works for AF.

Thank you and for a first camera, as long as you don't want to do video, then yes definitely. This will be a good choice for still images.

What is the biggest lens you can use to take pics of wildlife with xs

You can connect this to a telescope if you want. But in practical use, you should not have a shutter speed slower than your lens' focal length. So if you have a 500mm lens, which is effectively an 800mm lens on APS-C Canon cameras, then you need to have one that's fast enough, or be in a setting with enough light, to let the shutter speed be at or, preferably, much faster than 1/800th. If you have a tripod you can go a bit slower than that.

You need a wide lens. Check out my Round Glass Review for the Irix 15mm. The Firefly version of that lens is affordable and will work well. Sadness is true of the Irix 11mm. Also you want a solid tripod like a Manfrotto work a three-way head.

Not with this camera. This model pre-dates live view in entry-level cameras.

i've had this camera since it came out. i just found live feed yesterday! you have to toggle through the menu settings to turn live feed on - there's an option that literally says "live feed"
