A couple notes: 1) the problems that you were having with the camera because it did not have a memory card can be eliminated by going into the menu and selecting "shoot without card". 2) I'm using a 32GB card and it works flawlessly. I'm using a SanDisk Extreme 120 mb/s, and haven't tested any others. N.B. I have not tried either with any other cameras than my own, so YMMV.

That's your lens. If you have the 18-55mm, the fastest aperture it provides is 3.5.

Probably not enough light for the AF to obtain confirmation. You may need to use manual focus.

Got this camera MANY years ago and have yet to learn how to properly use it. I get in my own way. Im not great with this fancy new technology lol. Jk. Right now im trying to figure out how to take some decent close up pictures of flowers and honey bees. As well as take some northern lights pictures. On the macro setting it won't let me take a picture. On manual mode everything is blurry. Haha. Tips on the settings? Great video and thanks for the free content!!

Good question and most likely you're too close to the subject. All lenses have a minimum focus distance -- the closest that they can focus. Close-up mode will not take a photo if you're too close. Manual mode doesn't care if your photos turn out well or not, so it will take photos regardless of whether they're correct. The easiest solution might be to pick up a macro lens as that will let you get closer to your subject.

There should be a link in the video's description for the camera's drive modes (or it may be covered in video 1 -- I can't recall as I made this video some time ago.) But the function you need is in the drive modes.

Hello. as u said in the video regarding with bent cf pins, can it be still repairable if one of the pins were bent? cause i have one too. i'm just wondering.

They can be, but unless they're perfect then the pins can re-bend easily. It's worth trying, though. If the camera doesn't work now (it won't) because of that, then the worst outcome is a camera that still doesn't work.

One if the cf pins were out of place. For my memory card. And it kept reading errors and wasn't working well amd slow. My husband fixed it. But worried that it will mess up again. Show I worry about that.

That is a problem with these cameras. Preventing that will take caution when inserting a memory card.

Maybe you could have bent the cf pin back instead?

I've tried that on a bunch of these. The re-bend typically damages the pin root so the camera won't recognize it. Either that or they just fall out because the solder fails when it gets bent back.

Ah. ... maybe it could be a project for a soldering enthusiast i guess? Or maybe a source for replacement parts/ sold as for parts. Part of me is thinking about tool that could be made to restraighten bent pins without straining the roots now. It's... understandable though

@@animehair05silently88 i fixed mine with a slim fine metal dental pick, but ended up just using head torch and a long fine tipped screwdriver, and was able to gently push pins back into perfect alignment. took cf card on first insert, and still works on all my other cards also.

The best advice I can give you or to decide on the specs you need for both -- more so for video as that's going to drive a dual-use camera more then still image specs -- and then decide on a system (maker) and start checking what's on your budget.

You'll need to upload the files to your desktop or laptop PC and send them to mobile from there. These cameras were made years before today's smartphones and they need a workflow that matches the workflow of their time.
