I have fond memories of this lens. It was my first 2.8 telephoto and I was blown away by the results. I shot my first wedding 11 years ago on one of these and the image quality and rendering I got out of it was phenomenal! I had a 24-105 F4 and a 16-35mm F2.8 around the same time but the 70-200mm F2.8 ii was my favorite in terms of image quality.

Wow this is One of the most comprehensive video about this lens, but i was wondering about the autofocus, are there a big difference between the 70-200 RF version to this 70-200 EF mark ii, is there a big gap when it comes to the focusing rate between those two lens because i shoot sports with my R6 but i don't have the budget for the RF 70-200 😢

The auto focus is great, I used it for ages with my R6 II thinking it will lightning quick, then I tried out the RF.... That is insanely quick, but the EF is still really fast, I only upgraded due to the size and weight.

Wait a minute, M3 has a EFM mount, so you might need to get an EF- EFM adapter for it to work, similar if you was to put it on an R5 with the EF-RF adapter

This lens is ao good, I went backwards from RF 70-200 2.8 to the ef 70-200 ii 2.8, reason being the zoom control, I hated it on the RF. Its much better positioned on the EF, optically there is no much in it between the ef and rf optically.

Did you notice if any focus speed decrease for EF mounted on R system, compared to native RF lens? I'm doing some researches now, I got Canon R8 and I want to buy this EF lens from second-hand market which is much cheaper than native RF 70-200 f2.8 as new, and I wonder if would be any problem in focus for portraits (eye/face detection) mounted on my R8 camera.

@@ionutvlad go for the mkiii and you wont notice much of a difference in Af speed, it has stronger motors than the II version, a great lens

I agree that this is an absolutely fantastic lens and out of my full lineup of LSeries lenses this one is by far my favourite! However, I disagree that it’s built like a tank. I dropped mine from a similar height as yours and the lens internal mechanisms were totally trashed. Luckily, my insurance company replaced it with a new one. Also, I had the much smaller f4 version before before this one, and it rolled off my camera bag onto the floor (just 4 inches!) and the aluminium body next to the lens mount split, it still worked fine though. The moral to the story is, this is a precision piece of equipment, it’s not built like a tank!… look after it !

Yes, this is the lens I dream on! Did you notice any differences in how focus works, how fast/slow is it, using a R line Canon camera and this EF lens (+adaptor) comparing to a RF mount lens? I mean comparing with Canon RF 70-200 f2.8

I have just got the RF 70-200 and so far i'm loving it. The size and weight are the main factors to why i brought it and it's unbelievable how light it is. EF version felt like it was native for the RF system that's how great the adapter is.

This is an amazing lens and I'd still recommend it to people because of the price. But the RF version is so worth the money, due to the weight and size alone. It's a game changer

Hi! I'm thinking of buying my first (higher-grade) lens, wanting it to be a 70-200 f2.8 as this suits my style of photography most (horse/equine photography). Within my budget I've brought it down to the following two lenses: the tamron 70-200 f2.8 G2 and the canon EF 70-200 f2.8 II (mark 2). The price difference (used) is about 100€ (canon being more expensive in my country), so it's quite close to each other. But I don't know which lens is the better one...I know the canon is 7 years older, but it does seem to hold up quite nicely. And from the tamron G2 I see extremely positive reviews coming by. But how do these lenses compare? Which lens is (objectively) the better lens when it comes to image quality, sharpness, stabilisation, etc?

I have a canon 1300d, with 75-300 but for racing and plane photos the af doesnt work very well, should i buy the 70-200 I dont use it that much but i want to up grande for something better

It's hard to say because it could be the camera with the AF issues and not the lens. I'm not sure though. But going for a 70-200 F/2.8 will make you lose some reach by quite a bit. Maybe something like a 100-400 would be better.
