Enjoyed your video, it was the EF that caught my eye. Been shooting Canon A series since the 70’s and finally picked up two nice EF bodies. I have really grown to love the feel of the solid cameras. Thank you for telling us your experiences.

Yay, finally some love for the 'black beauty'. Such a great camera which slips under the radar from most buyers and can be had for a good price. Mine has a working meter which is good in use and because of the voltage regulator it doesn't matter if you can't find the discontinued battery as it will compensate for the higher voltage of the new batteries ensuring you always get accurate metering.

This is one of my favorite film cameras I've had 2 of these and still shooting with it. The images shot in this video are really different then mine. My camera shoots really sharp and clean images and in this video they seem kind of bloory.

Canon made some fantastic FD cameras in the past. My first camera in 1981 was a Canon AE1-P, it cost me six weeks wages, since then I have had the A1, AE1, F1,T70,FTB,AT1,AV1 and the legendary T90. I also used the Kodak infrared in the past, now that was a challenge.

Many of the old SLRs in my collection have inoperative light meters. I don't even bother with the in camera meter. If i'm shooting out of doors "sunny 16" will get me as close as the old in camera light meters ever did. If i'm shooting seriously I just take along my old Minolta later. I'm glad you enjoyed shooting the EF. I take mine out with my F1 occasionally so that they can play together, like a pair of siblings.

Flipping loving your channel. Started shooting film about a year ago and most channels feel a bit old and stuffy. Your vids are easy to watch and entertaining. Got a Bronica ETRSi and a few Olympus OM cameras (i think they are the sexiest 35mm) Would you do a review of one. Would be interesting to see what you think of them. Can send you my OM10 with a nifty fifty if you want?

Love this camera, it feels good in hand, heavy but solid, the shutter sounds amazing with less of vibration in compare to the A1. So funny because it's technically a F1 without removable prism.

Great video, really enjoyed it so both subscribed and bell rung and I like your non pretentious approach. You had a few good shots there but I especially liked your first swan image where the pigeon in the background had movement blur and the train shot on the way home. To me nothing beats FP4+ in Rodinal, though I think HP5+ equals it for when you want a different look. I keep buying alternatives to Rodinal and I do like DD-X with Delta 100 especially for 120 film, but I always return to my favourite. I was recently given some 12x14 RC MG paper unopened, with a load of other kit, but I haven’t made any attempts to use it yet.

Mark Harris I have very limited budget Mark so use the Rodinal a lot. When it's gone I might go back to DDX for a while. I really liked that swan photograph too. Have not printed it yet though. Nice paper gift there! Thanks for the sub.!

I got a Canon EF about a year ago now, it was given to me by my girlfriend's grandma who's dad used to live on the island and used it prolifically. I haven't actually got around to using it yet, need to find someone who will clean the fungus and haze off the 50mm that came with it (I kind of like the idea of taking taking some portraits of my girlfriend through the same glass her great grandfather looked through). Failing that I think I'll just pick up a new lens. I've taken apart and cleaned some of my other lenses like the hellos 44, but they are relatively simple to disassemble. By the looks of it this one is a bit more complex haha Any tips on testing for light leaks inexpensively? It all looks pretty good on the inside but I'd like to be sure before investing and putting some pro film through it :P
@ShootFilmLikeaBoss6 жыл бұрын
Nice idea of taking the portrait through the same lens. Like that. You'll need to do some tests for light leaks. Just load a roll of film. Burst off a few frames in bright sunlight. Then Use black tape to cover the seals at the back of the camera and carry on shooting to roll. When you get the film back (if you don't develop at home) you'll see on the first few frames if you have leaks. And the remaining frames should be okay where you covered the seals. Worked for me :). Great camera.

nice camera tip top prints mate I dig the paper your using
really amazing photos at the end there! Using the durstM605? I just got my Durst yesterday and I was wondering a couple of things, hope you dont mind? I have developed a roll of fomapan 400 bw 120 film that will serve as the first roll with the durst. What apature would you start with? What times for the teststrip? Any good methods of thinking when using a new enlarger?
@ShootFilmLikeaBoss6 жыл бұрын
Magnus Göransson Thanks for the kind words Magnus. Use your widest aperture to start so you can see your image on the baseboard for focusing. Then when you are ready to test a strip close it down to F8 or F11. Then do a series of 5 or 6 increments on a single strip at 3 seconds a time. That should be a good start. It's a good enlarger. Mine slips out of focus slightly so just check your focus again before you make a print.

how do you test to see if your light meter works? my friend gave me that camera a few months back and i wanna start using it. Would you be interested in skyping?
@ShootFilmLikeaBoss6 жыл бұрын
Looseleaf I couldn't tell you on this camera as mine doesn't work. Cameras with needle meters I normally take them outside to test the meter using my hand held light meter and compare the results. If you haven't got a hand held meter you can use a DSLR, failing that rely on the sunny 16 rule. On a sunny day Set your ISO and shutter speed to 100, aperture to f16 and point camera to a normal scene. The needle should be around the middle. Then increase your shutter speed a stop at a time and you'll see your needle move to the (-) area (showing underexpose) Decrease it from 100 to 1/60 1/30 1/15 and you should see the needle move to the (+) area (showing overexposed)
