Canon EF still life, Spot and Incident light reading compared, print for sale

A nice stress free hour in my back garden looking for and photographing a Tulip with my Canon EF 35mm camera and 50mm f/1.4 lens to make a Fine Art Print, also compare Spot and Incident light readings and compare both methods.

I use my spot meter all the time with great results. Sometimes i will spot off an old Kodak grey card if the situation is right for it.

Hello Martin, Great video, well explained metering and a great result. Thought you should know that on your eBay site selling the tulip, the following statement shows and I think you would probably want to correct it. It says: “A Fine Art Print created using my 4x5 Pinhole camera”. Much success with the auction. Andrew

Great image Martin and enjoyed the metering comparison too. I'll be interested in your results from the 510 Pyro having first seen it on 'Pictorial Planet' video with John Finch and then Roger giving it a go on 'SFLAB'.

Martin, you deserve a lot more subscribers than you have, mate. I know how much effort goes into making these video’s, I’ve really enjoyed “binge” watching over the past couple of days. I’ve been working with DDX for a couple of years and I think I have a comprehensive understanding of its personality both with HP5 and lately Fomapan 200 in 5x4 sheets. I am quite interested in Pyro and its qualities so I’ve paid particular attention to your dev technique. Looking forward to your next episode. All the best.

Nice one Martin. You will like the 510 Pyro. As for the busy roads, I for one am finding it difficult to cope with it at the moment. I worked through the whole of the pandemic lockdown on extended shifts, but at least the roads were free of idiots. Since the end of the lockdown, it hasn't been a single day that I have not had a near miss due to the mindless way that quite a few people drive, on the roads and on the motorways. Keep safe and I look forward to your next video. Thanks.

What about allowing for the 3X N.D filter on the spot meter reading ?. Did you take the filter off before you took the spot readings ?.

Yes you could do it that way, prefer to have a clear view were the 1 degree spot is reading though

The filter was on the lens all the time, I set my light meter to compensate for the loss of 3 stops
