@Jrconley1 Thanks for your question. With the newer cameras like your EOS 60D, there is a Depth-of-Field Preview button adjacent to the lens mount. You can now concentrate on how your photograph would like like by pressing this button and not worry about calculations anymore. Hope this helps. Many thanks, the Canon team.

i love you.... i get the whole depth field now..... omg am going crazy taking pictures and i did my sister's daughters first birthday and i use deep depth field all the time and the photos came out great but when it came to taking pictures by herself and with groups i use shallow depth field and its good if you use ur aperture value . it helps you learn to remember whats works with aperture and shutter speed together

There is something I don't understand. There is an aperture setting on the camera yet you can adjust the aperture on the lenses themselves right? How does the setting on the camera translate to the baldes on the lenses? I'm considering getting a 550D but just want to understand everything before hand.

i have a canon 60 d with a 18mm to 135mm lens. what happened to the depth of field distances that were on the old style lenses. it was easy to read the distance from the subject to the lens? I love my new camera but there is no way to determine the dof I guess unless you somehow memorize the f stops.

hi there, my question is that if u were to use a small aperture to achieve a sharp picture, in order to do that i got to use a rather slow shutter speed to capture a sharp picture - which may results in blur image if i do not use a tripod. is there any way of not blurring the image without using a tripod, especially for a fashion shoot?

Is it the same if you shoot macro on a zoom lense? Rather than macro on a macro lense? Or would it be different
@wanneske196910 жыл бұрын
DOF is not just affected by the f-number, but even more by the distance to the subject or the focal length.

@canonanz I'm very confused. Earlier in the video (around 1.03 min) you said "Smaller aperture like F/2 or 2.8 make a larger diameter of the opening and the shallower the depth of field" but then later (1.26 min) you showed the flower and stated "that it used a shallow depth of field, a large aperture" and then said "Such as f/2.8" I do not understand how this makes sense. You had earlier said that small aperture was small numbers but then went on and said large aperture and used small numbers again. Can you please explain this to me?

A lot zoom lenses are limited to narrower apertures such as f/3.5. Your lens should display the widest aperture it's capable of on the front.

It depends on your lens! For depth of field, i think you should buy a Len like: Marcro or a len that longer than Len 18-55 ! Mine aperture is 4 ( EOS 700D) ;)

it depends on the lens maximum aperture ^^ i would recommend you the 50mm f/1.8 lens , with this lens , you can go from f 1.8 all the way to f 22 ^^ or you can even buy the 100mm f/2.8 macro lens ! this one is so amazing and i am so happy with it ^^
