I'm constantly updating my eos m rig. I just picked up a new side handle for the left side of my camera to make it easier for me to plug in monitor and microphone cables. I love my cinema rig and it shoots great raw video. Absolutely precise.

My wife got me a canon eosm2 for my birthday and I built it out into a similar cinema rig like yours. I love it. It works great and Magic Lantern, though limited on the eos m2 is very good.

Love the Canon EOS M, so cool, installed both Cinestyle and ML but frustrated with ML - crashes a lot and results sketchy. Just want that iconic "RED/Blackmagic" flat cinematic look (e.g. Rust Creek on Netflix) to my videos, 1080 at 14bit would be nice without all the fuss. Also, just wanted to say the AF is unusable.

@@TheExpeditionUK M shoots RAW, not LOG. In MLV App you can encode to ARRI LOG C, Slog3, or BMD Film for the flat look. Cinestyle won't have any effect on RAW Video.

@@ZeekEOSZ so you shoot raw and work with it using mlv app, regardless of picturestyle which is in the log space, ok, I see. for now, I'll stick with (1) the basic canon settings first, then (2) move on to cinestyle to see what I can boost in davinci and then in a few weeks I'll (3) install ml again and have a play. for (1) and (2) should I be on the latest firmware for the best results and then go back to 2.02 to load ml, as the autofocus sucks right now? I filmed an entire segment which turned out to be blurry. If that happens when I'm filming a band or DJ I'll be gutted. I could shoot my gopro alongside just in case.

ND's subjective, depends on what you use. i have a range. So this mattebox takes 4x5.65 Filters if you have them, they can be expensive. So for alternative: 1. Use Non-Variable ND Filters (Don't Rotate) 2. Or, Use Variable ND Filter, but each time you adjust it, you must loosen the mattbox and then tighten again, which is very easy to do, just an extra step.

Cheers! Yes you can, there are many ways to do this. The Mattebox can be attached to the rod instead of the lens. If attached to the variable nd, then you unscrew the mattebox a bit, adjust the variable ND, then lock the mattebox knob again. How do you manual focus if there are handles in the way on both sides?

Depends what lens you're using. If you're using small lenses, no need for the 15mm rods, otherwise keep the right handle and rod, and remove the left. But for big lenses like the Sigma Art, it's fine. You can always adjust the position of the handle or use a lens holder mount. Also an extension arm on the left side.

Thanks for your videos! Amazing tutorials. Question. How do you get such noise-free footage? Using the kit lens (18-55mm) and no matter what I do the footage is EXTREMELY noisy. Like those 3CCD full HD camcorders. In MLV app setting 5x5 gets rid of the big dots, but the noise is bad even in brighter areas. Settings are: RAW 1080p, ISO 100 - 400, 23,976FPS, Shutter 1/48 (one of your presets)

Thanks! I keep iso always 100, of its dark then f1.0-f2 with a speedbooster preferably and then keep my eye on the Exposure Value (EV). Keep it between 1 & 0.1, though sometimes it's not possible.

Hello! You probably have seen most of scenarios - but have you ever seen any cage for M with metal part on a grip side (i want to add wooden hand grip on a right side) but all what i can find is a left side half cage. I have even send a message to Small Rig that anything could can be fit but they denied :( SigmaFP have super cool cages but there is no info that we can adapt that for M. Have you ever seen any info about that?

You can use M100 Cage with the grip, some require modification others fit fine.

I commented on one of your last videos because I've been having issues with loading ml on my eos and after following the instructions given it still says Firmware update program-loading and does this for hours until the battery runs out I was wondering how to fix this

Yeah it's a good lens. If its close to the price of the Sigma 18-35mm is get that instead, but other than that, the Canon lens is a good choice.

You switch over a rubber cap from battery door which then allows you to plug the DC into the dummy battery

Hey, How do you manage about noise? Even when I shooting outdoors, noise can be seen in iso 100. Especially when I use mlv app for correction a little bit. It's not as clean as you are. my gear is Eos M+7artisan 25mm f1.8

What mode 1080? 2.5k? Expose Between 1- 0.1. Closer to 0.1 EV will get you cleaner results, often risky though if weather changes e.g sun gets stronger, it'll clip.

@@lfcruzsierra M50 doesn't shoot raw. Eos m raw is better footage quality overall, but the M50 will have a quicker workflow + plus Flipout Screen.

Eos m is the best choice. Only the M and M2 have ml raw currently until the M50 gets it in the future. Corrupted frames can appear in high fps mode or when using monitors ocassionaly. Good SD card is the SanDisk Extreme PRO. Yes you can hack the lens but will get vignette on Apsc unless using crop modes.

@@lfcruzsierra No problem. It's difficult getting affordable fast IS Lenses that will fit the speedbooster. E.g. Canon 35mm F2 is, Tamron VC 35mm F1.8, Canon 28mm F2.8 IS, Canon 24mm F2.8 IS, Tamron 24-70mm F2.8 VC.
