I bought a new Canon 5D MKII in either 2008 or 2009, and I still have it and shoot with it on occasion. I love that camera. I shot a ton of weddings with it, from 2008 or 2009 when I got it, until I stopped shooting weddings in 2015. During that time, I also shot gr. seniors, models, portraits, glamour/boudoir, and events with it. It still works like a charm, and I've been able to capture some great images with it--then and now. I ultimately switched to the 5D MK IV, and they're great cameras but for some reason I just don't have the feelings for them that I do for the 5D MKII. Glad to see someone else who was/is a working photographer doing a video on this camera. You did a good job.

Yeah, I have three of them....given the price they go for nowadays. That way I can leave lenses attached....and they are good for taking "into the bush" without worry about risking an expensive camera body to damage while I am clambering about in the wilderness. Add to that....they still take excellent photos (the camera is capable of more than I am at this point....it's *not* the limiting factor).

My “best” body I ever owned is the 1DXmk1, however, the 5Dii is right next to it, and I still use my 5Dii body as my primary backup. The 5Dii is simply a FABULOUS piece of hardware, and anyone doubting this should look at reviews such as this one + Google around a bit. Because, its now 2024 and the 5Dii is still a gem, and it still stands the test of time when using good glass + if you know how to handle it.

I just purchased the 5D 2 once again. Having a 1DX I really didn't need a second body but I was looking for a "legendary" camera to keep it for the rest of my life...Great video!

I absolutely loved this video! I had a 5D2 some years ago but ended up selling it. I’ve regretted that ever since and just recently bought one in beautiful condition. I currently shoot with an R5, R62, and an R7, but I still really enjoy the feel of the 5D2. The images I created with my old one were some of the most beautiful I ever shot. I think the camera is a classic and one of Canon’s greatest.

This is one of those cameras that made the "Canon Color Science" phrase legitimate. New canon isnt quite as good and its on par with nost other brands now that sony got over their green phase.

I bought a 5D2 a year ago and it quickly became my favorite camera. Mainly for the ergonomics and build-quality. It feels like a tank and it is a tank.

I ran the shutter count on a 5D MKII up to 1.2 million. Gave the camera away a couple years ago and it's still going.

Great video as always and I love the introspection. I been wanting to pick up one of these badboys for a while now. Also I think you found a good balance of how to balance your drone shots with the rest of your video. It felt very natural. 8:28 was a great blending in particular.

I still shoot mine. I use Zeiss manual focus lenses and some Canon EF. I will never sell it. Magnificent video!

@@griffo5 yes and no. I wouldn’t say it’s bad but it’s a serious limitation if you’re used to 1 million-point AF and not really needing to know what you’re doing to nail focus. On my 5D2, when shooting in AF, I’ll often find focus on the subject, then compose, then shoot. Instead of composing and then trusting that the camera will focus correctly. Personally, I like working within the limitations of the AF. It makes me slow down and that often makes my compositions better.

I've had the mk2 with a L-lens for almost a year now. Shot around 5.000 photo with it. It's really heavy and the autofocus is quite bad. And it's bad in low light. But I love the feel of the camera and the look of the photos right out of the camera. And I love the colour science. It's build like a tank and can deal with bad weather and rough handling. And the shutter count record is over 2 million shots - that is bad ass.

I picked one up in new condition from Japan a couple months ago. Love the weight and build quality. So far it's been a great DSLR for leisure shooting. Enjoyed the video and listening to your take on this terrific camera.

Old school film shooter, then moved onto the 600D, which I still use 🤣....but am now upgrading to a full frame and it's this camera that I will get even though some say it struggles a bit in low light. Thanks for the video.

Interesting perspective - well thought out. I currently own a Canon EOS R. Canon 5D MKII. Canon EOS 1N HS. Sony a7s Version 1. Ive owned much newer and the latest/greatest most times but found as I grew as a photographer that very much indeed I had specific things that drew me toward... specific things. Love the Mark II and shoot it often. Love the R because its really just a mirrorless 5D MK IV. Love the 1N because...well, it shoots film. Film really is photography. This digital stuff is just a box with software in it that sees what you point at and calculates its own photo based on its algorithym. That said, theres some pretty cool algorithyms out there.

I did 11 years with a 5Dii, I rode it to the wheels fall off, the aperture dial sunk inside the camera, the mode dial was missing. Now I got 5 years with a Sony.

I just took my 5D mkII for my nephew weeding, it was the legal weeding yesterday, and in a month it the ceremony. I don't have a CF card reader anymore, so I ordered one so I could get the picture out of the camera. This morning and late last night, I started to think I needed to upgrade... And saw the R5 mkII is shipping August 20, 4 day before his ceremony... So I got hype about getting it, and cleared my credit card so I can fit the 6k$+tx Canadian purchase !!! Then I received my CF Card reader, and started to look at the picture I took, and except for my lack of technique to take photo and dealing with my AF point, the picture were really good ! Would the R5 mkII help with the focus... Definitely... Would it help a bit more in low light... Sure ! But is it worth spending 6000$+ on it after seeing the picture I got out of my 5D mkII ? NOT AT ALL !!! If I were a professional photographer and I depend of the camera for my living, then I think after 16year, I would be due for an camera upgrade ;) To me, the 5D mkII value should be max 4k$ (no lens). But at 6k$+ with no lens, no battery grips, no extra batteries... It not worth it when the 5D take amazing picture. I know I have to be careful with moving subject, especially subject going toward or away from me, as the 5D mkII autofocus really struggle there. But knowing that, I can tell that to the couple, and as I'm the one taking the picture so they save money, well they will get what I can. I have two Insta 360 (X One and X4) camera, 3 Blackmagic Video camera, with lens for all of them,, including tele photo. I have profesional lights, and pro wireless lavalier with high quality lavalier. So it not like the photo will be the only things going on... Video will be mostly static, as I cannot be everywhere, and I'll try to get some family member to help out. But would I upgrade my 5D mkII to R5 mkII for 6k$ after seeing the picture I took on my 5D mkII !!! NO, and even if the desire is there to get new gear, as it part of my drug, 6k$ is just way too crazy for my taste !

If going mirrorless.. used R6 is reasonable enough. But as said.. the pictures won't be better than a 5D mkii. Just easier to take.

Ever have any experience shooting on of the older canons such as this one pr even the film 1ds with the slit focus screen and manual lenses? I have a Pentax 55mm I'd love to use on this or an 1DN

Nice. Yeah I have a Canon 1N, such a great camera! But I've only ever used autofocus lenses on it. I use manual lenses on my Mamiya and Olympus though. Those are loads of fun to shoot.

Bought one today from a Pawn shop. My 5dmkiii is dying after over 1 million clicks.Its freezing and saying error so I just pull the battery which kicks it in the guts. The mkiii has cool features the ii doesnt have like up to 9 frames auto bracketing but for now a good standby for when the iii finally snuffs it.

I’ve owned many cameras from many brands and that double press menu system on my 1DS is hands down the worst thing ever inflicted on photographers. Completely killed my love for that camera. Gets in the way of the moment all the time. It’s funny how two people’s experience of the same equipment can be so different.

They kept that from the film eos, where you really, really don't want to change your iso halfway through a roll. Idea was you don't change what pros are used to.. but yeah.
