Keith Cooper looks at using EF to RF mount adapter with polarising filter
Used with the TS-E17mm F4L tilt shift lens (EF mount) and the Canon EOS R5 camera.
By using the RF mount adapter with drop-in filter, it's possible to use a polarising filter with the TS-E17. Even at full shift the polariser just works as expected with a normal wide angle lens.

Thanks Andrew - I only started on YT seriously in August, so I'm pretty new to doing videos. I'm trying to do ones to go with most new articles/reviews.

I have the EOS R and chose it over other mirrorless bodies that I could adapt to my EOS TS-E17 and other EOS lenses largely due to this adapter. Together with the ease of focussing and setting tilt, it really makes the EOS TS-E17 more fun to use. Enjoying your channel. Keep it up!

What a GREAT idea for Canon to incorporate a drop-in filter into the adapter! Perhaps someone can design an adapter for Canon lenses used on the GFX 100S to also have this feature!

Thank you for this video, very intersting ! I have a question though about the adapter : does it change the focale lenght of the lens, or is is still 17 mm ?
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper 2 жыл бұрын
No change whatsoever. Technically, having a filter behind the lens shifts the focus point slightly, but the adapter length allows for that.

I was concerned about using an adapter with the TS lenses. I thought they might block the shift or cause vignetting. Because you showed us exactly how it looks while shifting the lens I could see there is no issue. I really did not want to spend so much for a shifting lens if there were going to be problems. I could not find this information elsewhere. Do you have any idea what focal length I should be looking for if I want to get in two story building using the shift? Thank you so much!
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Жыл бұрын
Glad it was of interest. As to focal length - it depends how far away you are ;-) Would a 24mm lens be ok if the camera was tilted up? - then a 24 mm with shift would give a similar field of view (but corrected for convergence)

@@KeithCooper Makes sense. I'll try that. Thanks again. I wish Nikon made a special lens adapter like the Canon one. I've got a Nikon Z7 I'm pretty happy with otherwise, but the Canon TS lenses are about half the price for a 24mm used on eBay. I've thought about getting an older FX DSLR Canon body just to use one of those lenses, but then it's $1000 either way. I got surprisingly good results panning with an iPhone but the building is only about 12-15 feet in front of me on an alley and about 2.5 stories tall. I wish I had a cherry picker truck I could park there for a few minutes to vary my height for shooting straight on. I should ask the business on the opposite side of the alley if they'd let me get on the roof, but I have a feeling they'd say no. A drone would work nicely, but I don't have one and don't know how to work one. I'd have to hire a ten year old.

Thank you very much for the review. Does vignetting not occur when moving the ts-e 17 at its ends? Neither horizontally, nor vertically nor diagonally? Thank you
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Жыл бұрын
No significant vignetting on a 35mm sensor - there is some if you look very carefully - this is discussed in my main written review/articles. It was never an important issue with the 17 on my 5Ds There is only a little bit even if using the 17 on a 33x44 MF sensor [tested on a GFX 100S]

Good day, is it true that the tilt/shift movement will be lessened when mounted to the EF-RF adapter (when using an RF mount camera)?
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper 2 жыл бұрын
No, the adapter has no effect whatsoever A 17mm is a 17mm ...EF or RF

Very interesting. I have a canon r5 with a r 24-105mm lens and and ef mount 16-36mm lens. Will this adaptor work with both lenses?
@KeithCooper

No, only the EF mount one

@@KeithCooper do they make one that could be used with a canon r5 and the r 24-105mm?
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Жыл бұрын
No - not possible. Look at the depth of EF and RF mount cameras. The EF lens is further from the sensor. This distance is what the adapter fills. The RF mount lens does not give this space for an adapter to fit.

I just tried my TF17 with the adapter and I don’t get an indicator when I’m in focus, like I used to on my 5D. Do you have the same issue? I can’t even see the spot metering points.
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Жыл бұрын
Never had metering or focus points active on my 5Ds (probably an option) and focus peaking is my usual choice on mirrorless. The metering on most DSLRs is stuffed anyway with any significant shift or tilt. There are quite a few specific options to make the T/S use easier with the R5. However, this one was a loaner from Canon - no benefit over the 5Ds for the sorts of work I do, so not an in-depth trial!
@TarsierSpectral
@TarsierSpectral Жыл бұрын
@@KeithCooper Thanks. I never used focus peaking but I just set it on my R5 and this solves my issue, so thanks for that! Cheers!

@@TarsierSpectral Look in the camera menu for FOCUS GUIDE and turn it on. A square with some arrows will appear in the viewfinder and on the screen that will indicate when you have achieved focus by moving the manual focus on the ts-e
