Hi Jake, I'm an amateur and been looking at the Meike adapter for my M50. I also have a 600D and would like to use the EF and EF-S lenses I have so thats good.. but can I buy the Meike for my M50 so I can use the filters but still use my EF-M lenses? I cant seem to find it as a straight filter without being an adapter, is it available?
@TertioFilmDesign2 жыл бұрын
This was great, especially the color shift section. Ive been using front lens filters and been looking to get one of these so i can stack BPM on the front easier. I know higher end productions use manual focus with a focus puller, but for the one man crew, it would have been great to know the communication performance of each lens adapter, how it auto-focus comparatively and if they communicate the lens stabilization with the ibis. I will try find this info on other videos, but this was a great overall comparison, good job mate

You mention cross-polarization and demonstrate the impact well, but it is also worth noting that dual element rotating VND filters are essentially two layered polarizers with a 90 degree range of phasing adjustability. So it is impossible to use a VND without basic polarization even wide open. Switching from landscape to portrait orientation may be problematic with that. Obviously that is less of an issue for dedicated cinema use, but photographers and TikTokers should be aware of it. (Also, I bought the Meike and question why anybody would spend so much more for the Canon.)

Got the Meike about 2 months ago mainly for photography and i love it, a look at the cost of it with nd and clear filter vs the canon is massive. The one annoyance for me with the Meike as you pointed out is the lack of any markings regarding ND strength

Thank you for comparing these. I’ve been looking at the Meike, but could not find any good reviews. I wasn’t going to drop $500+ on the canon one, but looks like I’ll be happy with this one for $150. I’m sure it’s not perfect but should fit my needs very well.

I bought the Meike (ND and CPL). The combination was less than the Canon system and worked very well with my EF 17 to 40mm L F4 lens. I had to return it, because it did not work so well with the EF 24-105mm L F4 version 2. For some reason, the lens was forced into manual mode (when lens is switched to AF) between 35mm to 105mm focal length. It autofocused between 24 to 35mm.

Great review of drop in adapter filter solutions. These filters are a sort of mid ground solution. Not as good as traditional 4 x 5.6 Matte box filters and a matte box in terms of performance but in terms of price they are what would be classed as affordable. Very few people can afford to spend £500.00 for each 4 x 5.6 IRND filter plus at least another thousand for a matte box.

Hi CVP, regarding your statement on 12:10. I would think this is not a problem since systemcamera's like the R5 use digital auto focus to adjust the lens/sensor to get the best sharpness, unlike DSLR's. Is this not true? I once bought a cap for my drop in filter mount instead of the clear filter.

@mattpjones2 жыл бұрын
Be careful with variable ND as I find they often give color shift, as it's just two circular polarizes working together. Especially if filming any type of screen it really messes up how that comes through to the sensor. You can't go wrong with single strength Tiffen ND filters that you can stack in front of lens. They're definitely more expensive than others, but the glass is top notch. Have had them for years and had no problems. Even stacking 2-3 of them togther. Get a .3, .6, and 1.2 and you should be set!

Question: when you say white balance the MEIKE adapter due to its warmer tendency, does that mean I would be able to adjust the kelvin by a few hundred in comparison to what i would shoot without the adapter? For example, if I’m using my RF lens outdoors in 5500K and I wanted to switch over to my EF 24mm f/1.4 lens with the MEIKE drop in adapter, could I just change that to something like 6000K to adjust? I know that’s not an accurate kelvin number because i would have to test it to see if they roughly match, but just throwing in a number for example purposes)
@CVPTV2 жыл бұрын
Yeah exactly, you could in theory do this. But I would say setting your WB with a grey card as soon as you put your adapter on will give you the best results! Jake

@@CVPTV Of course! I was just throwing a what-if situation for when I’m out on a run-and-gun style, which gives little to no time to accurately white balance. Is there such a magic mount?🙏 To clarify, I mean I just want to use drop-in ND filters. To make my EOS R6 as easy to use ND filters as my BMPCC 6K Pro.
@CVPTV2 жыл бұрын
You can get clip in filters for the R6 that fit into the camera mount. They just won’t be variable and will be difficult to change with an increased risk to damaging your sensor. Otherwise it’s not possible due to how lenses work I’m afraid :( Jake
@TesLatino2 жыл бұрын
@@CVPTV I understand that. Maybe I didn’t ask clearly. If someone makes the exact same drop-in “adapter” but without transforming the RF mount to EF, and instead being RF on both ends, but with the drop-in space, that’s what I mean. I have EF lenses and the adapter would be great, but my RF 14-35 for example is so much lighter, that I would like to keep using it without the hassle of screwing on and off my Tiffen ND filters. Just for convenience. My BMPCC 6K Pro is great for that but is heavy on its own, so I’d prefer to use the R6 for most daily recording.

@@CVPTV I feel like my brain is shorting out. If it can be done from one mount to another, what can’t it be done without transforming the mount. Not when you understand shutter angle that needs to be fixed for video. Shoot 24p and your at 1/50 or 1/48 and you can only adjust iso and aperture. If you want shallow depth of field - cutting down light with a wide open aperture is necessary. Cheers 🥂
@justinavila13202 жыл бұрын
haha. As someone who shot photos for decades and move over to the cine world I can relate haha. Especially with wide ap lenses and IBIS now, doing still is a piece of cake compared to motion/video. Always needing to either add or reduce light - and you can't do it by shutterspeed without breaking the 180 degree rule. Which means all your "photos" are F2 at 1/50th of a second for video on average. Bright mid-day sun or the darkest of night clubs. Never knew I had it so easy in the still world.
