Great tutorial! There was one area which didn't quite understand. It's about stabilized lens shut-off. I'm a nature hobbyist and just learning my new R6. My shooting set-up is the R6 with Sigma 150-600 and EF adapter on a tripod with gimbal mount. With my 6D mark II I shut off the lens stabilizer and was good to go. Thought the same with the R6 but around 8:28 began to wonder if the camera stabilization system needs to be shut off also. Please clarify what my settings should be for shooting birds.

Easy: at least with Canon lenses, both is systems turn in and off together - no way to set them individually. That’s the confusion: Canon never comes out and says it that clearly. The menu IS option goes away with any lens with an IS switch.

I learn things I never saw in manual for you and your tips and tricks down to earth the way you use it. It made the Fv much more understandable and showed tricks I in FV I did not know before like the trash can. My R5 is supposed to arrive in two weeks from Adorama by Oct 20 and it similar the the menu of the R6 you show. I learned about the option for a color histogram in the info display (Camera 7 list in R6) but no such list under Camera in EOS R menu. I found it in time over in wrench 4 list in the EOS R "Shooting info. disp. " after some searching. I love color histograms in the Info display rather than brightness and had no idea the EOS R could do such a thing until this video. You provide priceless information on the pragmatic tips of using this complicated cameras with many deep menus to learn. @@KenRockwellTV I read this r5 review and thorougly enjoyed it. However I would love for you to make a video for us R5 buyers a tips and hints for the R5 like you did for the the R6 but with more emphasis on the r5 features set up. The written reviews are important too but people like like the videos too. We watch both. I love the R5 but I kept the EOS R which I also love. I am not pixel obsessed but the 45MP is attractive to me for cropping at times but not for everyting. I want the R5 to be as versatile as the 5D Mk IV has been for me and in that camera I did nto know I needed 30MP until got them in an actual camera. I am not everyone, and I think the 20 MP is plent for most use and i hav3 three 20 MP Canon cameras. I know I do not want 45mp JPEGs for everything I use the new R5 for and will be internally downsampling images for high school team sports that I shoot because I will want to distribute 1000 shots per game to parents where I think 4 MB JPEGs are enough. I could you use the R6 for high school sports if this was my only use but for me I want an upgraded flexibility from the 5D Mk IV for wildlife which my shooting makes cropping images common and subjects can be rapid and unpredictably near or far with with chance for zooming or changing lenses. I have a EF400f2.8 prime lens shots in which this heavy lens that is hard to move quickly. The extra cost of the R5 is well worth it for me. Most my money is in lenses and for me the R5 with excellent 45 MP and 4K HQ seems to be a bargain for a mirrorless that work well with all my 20 great EF lenses and five RF lenses I have collected over a lifetime. I do think you would get large bunch viewers for an R5 hint and tips video for us to learn more bits of knowledge about how to improve our skills and camera set ups. I now my have a RGB histogram on my EVF in my EOS R had I not watched your R6 video. We future R5 users need all the help you can give us.

I also am a huge fan of the RF24-240mm lens and I find it amazing. I have owned several big white 10X zooms in the past. They cost more and were all L grade lenses but this RF24-240mm lens simply runs circles around them. It is very silent and fast focus with sharp images. Additionally, it is also relatively compact, light weight and inexpensive too. This is almost too much in one lens to be real! The RF 15-35mmf2.8 ultra wide makes a pretty great and useful ultrawide zoom companion lens that stands above the others in my bag. Particularly so in contrast to the similar wide zoom EF lens predecessors. I do have RF 24-70mm zoom but is seems fairly similar to my much older EF 24-70mmf2.8L II. This EF zoom is what I have used on my 5D Mk IV in the past. Both are good lenses. However, for those seeking to add only one new RF lens that have the RF 24-240mm I would recommend the RF15-35mm as a truly deluxe ultrawide travel companion.

Hey could you test something for me with the R6? I want to know if it’s possible to shoot a time laps with eye autofocus on? I would use this for self portraits. I use this method with my old 6D and magic lantern. I set up a time laps and every new shoot the 6D hunts for a new focus, so I has to stay on the right position in the frame and can shoot a lot of pictures of me without having a trigger or phone in my hand. It would be amazing if this method would be possible with the R6 and the eye detection autofocus, because i could move free in the frame without thinking of the focus, because the camera allays would search for my eye. Would be amazing if you could test this for me and give me a answer or maybe do a tutorial on your channel because I could imagine a lot of ppl could be interested in this method too. Great review, I learned new things :-) Big bummer with R6 is that the electronic shutter can not be used in AEB, I can do that with my R7 which I use for real estate photography combined with the ancient 10-22mm :-)

One question Ken, on the website you write that the most detail is at ISO 50, so its better then iso 100 in a studio environment etc? Also, would you recommend to use the D+ / D++ modes on R6? Or better to stick to iso 100? @@KenRockwellTV

If you like picture styles as I do, raw just adds more steps. I never use raw. If the craw is the lower resolution one, then you’re also losing a load of resolution compared to jpg large, especially at the same file size. Thanks!!

The only major flaw in the R6 is how it swaps from photo to video. If it had the photo/video switch that Nikon has that saves your last settings automatically it would be the perfect hybrid camera for me.

I can't imagine that the R6 would work with an original 5D battery since the battery design and shape and charger were changed starting on the 5D Mark II. I can imagine it would work with the battery from the 5D Mark II forward since that battery works I think, throughout the later DSLR's that Canon made, at least the ones taking a full sized battery, like the 80D.

HEIF files are far older but not very common. High-Efficiency Image File Format is from 2015. It is more efficient than JPEG it usually needs half the size for the same quality. And it has features to have live pictures or 10-Bit bit depth. Canon should only have provided a driver for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Just read your latest comments on Nikon on your website. Do you think that the camera industry will be a better place if you discourage everyone from buying Nikon, with only Sony and Canon left in the game? Is that a future you are hoping for? Believe me, it would be a bad outcome for everyone, including Canon shooters.
@KenRockwellTV4 жыл бұрын
Sony wins no prizes either. I’d only buy Canon - and as I encouraged, stupider people should keep buying lesser brands to keen Canon on its toes. Thanks!

I totally agree with you Ken. Nikon's arrogance and lack of commitment to R&D led to their coming demise. Sony's menu system must have been designed by the same person who created mazes for Disney World. After Sony acquired Minolta they went after the amateur video market, and since, like you, I don't use this type of camera for video, Sony is not on my radar. Canon's color is unbeatable and when they come out with new models most if not all accessories are usable between the older and the newer model(s). It's interesting to see how many Sony shooters use Canon lenses. Why even bother buying a small bodied camera if the OEM lenses aren't good enough to use on the camera?
