Certainly a legendary lens in Canon's FD system. Tack sharp wide open, minimal CA and unique image and bokeh quality. I chosen to de-yellow my chrome nose version for increase light transmission and more neutral color balance with color negatives. I used the Ikea lamp method because sunlight generates heat and can possibly melt the internal lubricants, heliocoid grease and cause outgassing. Common issues for the 35mm F2 and other fast aperture Canon FD prime lenses are the deteriorated roller bearings use for the floating element design. If you feel any play in the focusing ring or if you shake the lens and hear a slight knocking sound, then you'll need to have the lens taken apart to replace the old bearings. Lenses that have deteriorate bearings perform optically poor due to internal lens group misalignment.

I have the earlier version, with the chrome filter ring, and I find it great for black and white film shooting.

Very nice video! What do you think about the convex version of this lens. So the Canon FD 35mm f/2 S.S.C., especially in comparison to the concave one?

Nice video. Do you have any comments between the Green 'o', Green 'O' and Green 'A' that is found on the aperture ring?
@japanvintagecamera886910 ай бұрын
The green figures are for using the lens on a camera with automatic operation. By setting the ring to the green O or A (depending on the year of the lens), the camera will automatically choose the aperture if that camera has an Auto setting on the shutter speed dial.

Nice review. The chrome nose version is optically identical and a lot cheaper.

So much great great information here. I got interested to buy something from your shop as your interest and enthusiasm for Canon and vintage lenses are admirable. Only to mention that your eBay store link does not work (Did you remove your store?) and the Etsy (Not a reliable place to buy from!) has no 35mm F2. Needless to say, Liked and Subscribed.

is this camera fully mechanical? can it run without battery?
@japanvintagecamera88694 жыл бұрын
Yes, this camera is fully mechanical. The light meter requires a battery, the shutter does not.

Super Spectral Coating, better coating for lenses of that day.
@bern0473 жыл бұрын
Actually 'Super Spectra Coating' I am 75 yrs old and bought the Canon F1 back in March 1971, still have it and it works flawlessly, I have a whole range of FD lenses including this 35mm f2 Concave, 28mm f2 with lens floating system for close focus correction, Macro lenses and the tilt shift lenses, all working just fine, I use some of these on my EOSM for video now with Magic Lantern and on the Canon 5dMK11 as well with an adapter, the results I get are simply superb, glad I kept my F1 and the FD lenses : )

Thanks for buying the Rookie, I thought I had answered your mail, but for some reason these answers aren't getting out, you are not the only one. You will be able track the package by Monday, due to the pandemic shipping is limited to one day per week. I hope you enjoy the camera,
