Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-4000: The LARGEST Most Expensive Printer I've Sat On

Canon has been challenging Epson in the inkjet game for the last few years all while HP has officially dropped out. This Pro-4000 is the bigger brother to the Pro-1000 which i've been using for almost a year.
From what we're told the Pro-4000 is a Pro-1000 on steroids. If that's the case it's going to give fantastic BIG ASS PRINTS.
The Pro-4000 is a 44 inch wide 11 ink + 1 Chroma Optimizer Inkjet printer. This means you can print 44 inch wide prints by however long the roll of paper is. If you need a larger printer you can go with the Pro-6000 which can handle 60 inch wide paper but has less inks.
The version that was sent to me has the Multifunction Roll System which means I can have two rolls on the machine and the printer will be able to switch between whatever papers you have installed. This is great if you spool print jobs and need some Glossy and others Matte for example.
This set up clicks in at just under $6,000 with the optional multifunction roll system and $5,000 without it. The inks come in three different sizes 160 / 330 and 700 mL and are priced at $97 / $173 / $294
We will be doing a "Real World Review" of this printer as soon as we have it set up. Since the print quality will be similar to the Pro-1000 we will focus on the functions that make the Pro-4000 unique. I am thinking we will do sample prints from multiple DSLR's. The Canon 5DSr, Canon 1DX Mark II, Nikon D5 and the rumored Canon 5D Mark IV if it turns out to be a real camera.

You're on the right track and thank God you're here to help people with photography. You do a great job of breaking down photography into layman's terms. One request or future product idea. With so many people doing online sales, I feel a special "product" photography coarse would be a great. I think that type of tutorial (teaching) would be in high demand.

I'll pick up a few guides in the near future. Even if I learn 2 or more new things it's worth every penny. I reviewed your guide web pages and to me "a shopper" I won't buy your photo guide if I needed to learn product photography for my Amazon store, etsy, ebay, or company web store. You guides seem to highlight good photo practices for general use and that's excellent. But there is nothing on your site to say "hey ebay seller you want to sell more stuff on ebay?" I'll teach you how to with quick and great photos. I see an opportunity there as I had to very painfully teach myself product photography and Photoshop. Maybe my idea won't click for you now. I just see an even higher future demand skill set for people wanting to sell online in e-commerece. I see product photography, videos, Photoshoping, working with 3-d models and online selling techniques as high demand skill sets. Just kicking an idea off ya! I love everything about business and I found out (the hard way) photography and business go hand and hand. It's critical. Were all so thankful you're here to lead us to great photography!

You should print some night sky photos from the Grand Canyon and the panorama of Manhattan you did with the Sony RX 100 Mk 4. I want to know what the quality of that small camera is like when you print it really huge (I know that you will stand farther away but please do it). And I would like to know what it would cost to print a 50 feet panorama with a lot of colors. I imagine some kind of a tropical fruits photo that goes on the wall at a super healthy natural smoothie-shop :D

One downside of graduating, at least for me. I miss having access to the large format printers at my school. Not only was it super affordable, but I learned a lot about printing while getting to be in complete control over my images.

Printhead question... I actually install the ipf printers for a living but for architectural companies. Generally I tell customers to preserve the insanely expensive print-head, print even just a tiny bit of each color once a week to keep the ink flowing through the nozzles. Even just the nozzle check pattern page Personally I own the Epson SC-P400, and it is both an amazing printer, and a piece of garbage. (in one year Epson has replaced it 3 times). If you don't print something every couple of DAYS your print-head is destroyed. Not very practical for a hobbyist, and a bit too small of a machine for professional. I also have an iPF8300 in my office, and that thing burned through its $500 print-heads (two of them). Compare that to the iPF810 and iPF815 in my office, which can go weeks without printing and print-heads still last 3+ years... So, What I was wondering, in your playing with this, do you think this machine will have the same problem with "must be always in use" of the iPF8300 and Epson photo machines, or the durability of something akin to the 810's and 815's?

I WANT detailed review. Printing is almost never talked about anymore, shame. So, what do I want to know? print quality. Probably a 2-3 year supply depending on frequency of use. I own an ImagePROGRAF ipf6400S plotter and i spend less on ink than I did on my Pro 9000 home printer. Keep in mind that home inkjet printers that cost $15 for an ink cartridge only come with about 10ml of ink. This is 700ml of ink for $300. So instead of $1.50 you're paying per ml, with a plotter you pay $0.42 per ml. So you pay three times more in ink for a home printer in the long run.
