Beautiful photos. I also have the M5 and I love it. It is compact and lightweight. Like you I switch to the EOS M series from Canon full frame DSLR. Now with my M5 I have a lot of lenses like the 11-22 and the 18-150 as zoom, and for prime I have the Sigma 16, and the Canon 22, 28 macro and 32. I’m also planning to get the Laowa 9mm and the Sigma 56mm, and in the futur is Canon will release the EF-M 100-300 I will probably get it for sure. All the lenses for the EOS M system are light and compact but there are all cost less than 500€. The price is the first for me to get to this system. When I had the 6D which was cheap, I could afford any good lenses because it was expensive. I wish Canon will release the M5 mark II soon.

Thanks for the positive comment. It will be interesting to see what Canon does with EF-M. Yeah, hopefully they do make a M5 mark II. The rumored R5 will have IBIS, so let's hope there will be an M5 with it too. I bought a Sigma 56mm recently and will be making a video about it.

I want to buy my first camera for my travels in Japan, Australia and Indonesia. However im torn between buying the m50 and m5, i will primary be focused on taking pictures of landscapes and nature. I will be buying used and was wondering which one would you prefer and why?
@ScottJWaldron Жыл бұрын
M6 mark II if you can find one is the best camera in this system. The M5 interface and AF do feel older, but it's good enough in many situations. Both of those cameras have a shutter release port and more buttons/dials for controlling the camera. The M50 does not.

I had the M50 and just got the M5. I found the video quality of the M50 kinda bad tbh. So, i just focus on stills when it comes to these small cameras, and rather get something like the R5/R6 for video, and have the M5 for a small, portable stills and travel camera.

@@ScottJWaldron i can see the M6 MkII work as a small video camera, and or the M5 MkII when that comes out, but otherwise, i haven't been too impressed with the video on these small cameras.

I’m kinda torn. I’m going to be studying photography and I am interested in both the M5 and M50. Which one should I get? Only photography!
@ScottJWaldron4 жыл бұрын
I much prefer the M5 for straight photography. While probably isn't quite as fast in autofocus, the added buttons and dials make it a much more pleasant experience when doing photography. In addition, it has a port for a wired cable release that I consider important for tripod work. The M50 can kinda sorta do remote release stuff with the app or a bluetooth remote, but I personally prefer a wired release for the sake of simplicity.

I'm interested in buying either an m5 or m50. I really just want to use it for photography. I have experience with DSLRs. I know the m5 has a better system for photography with the dials, but as someone who likes to take photos fast and in multiples, how much of a difference is the autofocus time? And do you find it makes a difference when shooting? I don't want to be slowed down as I find sometimes with my Canon 60d. Thanks!
@ScottJWaldron4 жыл бұрын
If you don't want to be slowed down, get the M50. There is a difference, though it can depend on the lens partly. It's not something I can quantify. The M50 handles adapted lenses better. That said, I personally use and prefer the M5 for photography. If dials and custom modes are not something you are about, definitly go with the M50. For me... custom modes are huge, even more so than the AF differences.

I want to buy my first camera on my birthday. I am torn between buying the M5 or the M50, used. Which do you think is best for videos? And why? And does the M50 have exposure compensation aswell? They said M5 have a dedicated control buttons/dials for that
@ScottJWaldron Жыл бұрын
Look into the more recent R50 if you can afford it. That camera has useful 4k recording and the RF mount is the future of Canon. We don't know how long EF-M will receive support. The M50 and M50 Mark II are better for video than the M5. They have better video autofocus and are more recent so other various video improvements besides the articulating screen on the M50/M50ii. Physical controls are not as important for video. Exposure compensation is a standard feature on cameras.

The only way I know of to see those details is with Canon's "Digital Photo Professional" software. The metadata is in there, but reading it is the challenge. www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/cameras/eos-dslr-and-mirrorless-cameras/mirrorless/eos-m5-ef-m-18-150mm-is-stm/eos-m5-ef-m-18-150mm-is-stm?tab=drivers_downloads

Would you recommend i get a canon m5 or a canon t6 or t7? I will only be taking pictures, would really appreciate a response!
@ScottJWaldron4 жыл бұрын
The only Canon APS-C dslr I've used in recent memory was the SL2. I'd dont know anyrhing off hand about the T6/T7. I'd say it comes down more to system. Do you want to use EF/EF-S lenses without an adapter? Get the DSLR. Are there EF-M lenses you want to use? Get the M5. Do you want that "mirrorless" way of using a camera, or am optical viewfinder? Get the related camera in that case.

I just got an M5 a few days ago , the touchscreen is very erratic it will be on and then go black then give it a few seconds and back...then out , i have an EOS M and it has never acted like that, and its crazy it doesn't flip or twist so that you can see doing vlog you can flip it down but then you can't put on tripod seems like poor design...i appreciate any thoughts

Clean the eye sensor next to the viewfinder? With the sensor it's pretty sensitive. Like 2 inches away from the camera I can hold my thumb out and the sensor will switch the camera to the viewfinder. You can also disable the sensor based switcher in the settings to make sure it's something else causing the screen to black out. If it still happens my next idea would be to use a simple micro fiber cloth to gently wipe the gold colored contacts near the camera's imaging sensor and wipe the gold contacts on the back of the lens. If that doesn't help... maybe the cable that goes from the camera to the screen is damaged.

Hi, do you know how to change format of video from .ctg to .mov or mp4?

That's a "catalog index file" so it's not a video file. It's a file the camera makes but it's not important to to the user.

What do you think about Canon Eos M3?
@ScottJWaldron3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I've never used that camera. It looks like the camera had 49 phase detect points on the sensor instead of dual pixel AF sensors used in current EF-M. If autofocus performance isn't much of a concern then it might be interesting to check out.

What an odd comment. What difference does it make? Are you incapable of understanding the video because of it? "M" is a consonant, though the "mmmm" sound does appear to have a special rule applied (eg microsoft vs ms-dos). Though, English is my native language, don't come here for some perfection level of speaking. That isn't the point here. This channel is about photography.

There are various factors involved when producing a video. In other videos I might have said "an" or "a". If you start making your own videos you will understand that just trying to get a coherent recording is a challenge. Seeing as I add captions to my videos, I obviously see the weird phrases I speak in many videos.
