I love these kinds of comments as much as the video and even more when the video is lacking in any way. Sone times crappy videos provoke great comments that make up for it. I also have an m50 and do not regret the purchase in any way. It's a fantastic camera . What can NOT be done with an m50? Nothing! Have fun taking photos and video. It's so much fun.

It's definitely a nice small camera. But unfortunately in a professional situation where you are being paid to work. Clients don't want you showing up with a small camera like that. As a travel camera it's perfect. But you really can do almost anything with it. The one place where it is lacking is in low light photography when you can't use a tripod.

I just switched from using my Nikon D4s and a 70-200 2.8 to the Canon M50 mk II with the Sigma 56mm 1.4 for all my portrait shooting. I purchased the battery grip with the 18650 batteries which solves the battery life time... I had the M50 for my real estate photography, and decided I was tired of lugging around the big heavy cameras on location for portraits. The camera never misses focus, especially with the eye detection and face recognition. I use it with my off camera flash AD200 and the nikon trigger, because I only shoot flash in manual mode so I didnt even need to get the canon version... Hi guys, great little video series on the M50. I'm looking forward to watching the 3rd episode after watching the first 2. Just a few tips: the camera has eye-detection AF, so that would be better for your portrait tests. The camera is highly customisable, so you can bring a lot of the common settings to your buttons. I bought the M50 for street photography and I have these custom settings - M-Fn button changes ISO; record button (when not in video mode) sets focus mode (face/subject tracking, zone AF, single point AF); up-arrow toggles between aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation; down-arrow toggles between EVF and LCD screen (I don't like it auto switching); left-arrow toggles between one-shot and servo AF; right-arrow brings up drive mode. Leave the Q menu on your next most used setting, e.g. White balance or flash compensation, and every time you hit the Q button - white balance or flash compensation is already selected and ready for immediate adjustment. The camera can be triggered remotely by your mobile phone/tablet/PC or you can buy Bluetooth BR-E1 remote control. You may want to read this article on how to set it up: dancarrphotography.com/blog/2018/03/31/canon-eos-m50-and-br-e1-bluetooth-remote/ Obviously there's 2sec and 10sec timers too. As for slow response in taking shots, I haven't seen that issue. I turned off image preview, so I take a shot and can immediately take another without a preview of the last shot taken popping up. It is slightly slower than DSLR response times, but not slow enough to be an issue. I definitely see no difference in lag between using the EVF or LCD screen. I'd recommend getting used to using the EVF with custom buttons set up as it not only speeds up your work flow, but it's also easier to see in bright sunlight, not to mention being a steadier way to hand-hold the camera. Once again, great videos, thanks for making them.

I thought the speed booster produced softer images, but they all look great, gives more confidence when using the Canon m50
@BillEricPhotography5 жыл бұрын
I didn't notice any drop-off in image quality. I think that's more something you have to worry about with the lens. The 50 mm f 1.8 is definitely a little bit softer than the 24 to 70 L lens that I used with the speed booster. But there's also a $1,500 price difference between them.
@igorpelin60492 жыл бұрын
I cannot afford a full frame camera, so the crop sensor was fine until now. I ran across a a few articles about speed boosters. my understanding was it would take the light from your lenses, and focus them fully on the cropped sensor. am I correct with that? I have a pretty good set of lenses for the SL3, so my idea was to get a speed booster that fits the SL3 lenses, and be able to focus the full light onto the crop sensor of the SL3. Am I correct? Is that how it works?
@BillEricPhotography2 жыл бұрын
Not really your SL3 is also a crop sensor camera. The speed booster is made to be used with full-frame lenses like Canon EF lenses not EFS lenses. The theory with the speed booster is it takes for argument's sake of 50 mm lens and instead of having an 82 mm crop factor it'd reduces the image coming through the lens down onto the sensor so you get the full 50 mm instead of having it cropped with the smaller sensor. So if you have EFS mount lenses all you need is the regular Canon adapter to use them on the M50.
@igorpelin60492 жыл бұрын
@@BillEricPhotography I use a ef 50 mm 1.8 that's a full frame lens right? Would you recommend me getting a booster?

Yes the 50mm 1.8 is a full frame lens, you can use the speed booster with that it will keep the lens close to 50mm and 1.8.

I think the m50 is the best deal of all time, but it's not sensible to suggest that it compares to a high end camera in any way unless the high end camera is defective. I doubt that I will ever buy a high end camera because I will never appreciate one and I am so content with my m50 with my speed booster and other gizmos and gadgets. My fave lens is the canon 22mm f/2. I just got the canon ef-s 55-250. One of my dreams is an easy way, or adapter to use an ef-s lens with a speed booster. There are hack parts that work but it involves unscrewing and rescrewing, which could screw things up. Too much screwing is never recommended. I am waiting for a hack part which is a mount replacement for that exact lens, the ef-s 55-250 so the lens will become an ef, which connects to the speed booster. I never was this excited waiting for an eBay delivery. Gréât vidéo, thanks. One critique is that the sound of the video when you are on the computer, is not great. Last question. Is super sharp always what you want for a portrait? M50 is great for anything except using it as a hammer for construction. PLEASE KEEP MAKING VIDEOS AND SPEND PLENTY OF TIME RESPONDING TO COMMENTS. I LOVE GETTING A RESPONSE TO EITHER ANSWER A QUESTION OR PUT ME IN MY PLACE WHEN I SAY SOMETHING STUPID.

I think anytime you want to create a nice image it should be sharp. Especially if you have to do a lot of editing to it. Hi! Thanks for the M50 video series. I'm just starting with my new one and I find your videos so useful! I just wanted to ask you about one thing that is bothering me. In some photos I have the impression that the camera adds some "noise". They are shot under good illumination, the camera is steady and I guess I got a good exposure (with very low ISO). I had this problem with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 stm (both with Canon adapter and Viltrox speedbooster), and with the Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM. Have you experienced that issue? Do you think it's the camera or am I doing something wrong? Thank you!
@BillEricPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Really the only thing that's going to cause noise in your images is when you raise up the ISO. When you say low ISO what do you mean? I have noticed with the M50 even is owes as low as 500 can produce grainy images.
@DAVIDMARTINEZ-ez6sp5 жыл бұрын
@@BillEricPhotography Thanks for the fast answer! I had some noise even at ISO 100. It's somehow baffling for me, because I hadn't such a grainy photos with my previous camera (Canon EOS 450D). I'll make more tests to find out how to solve that. I'm sure I will learn in the meantime.

Hi Don, I think you might have a typo in there. I'm not really sure what you mean.
@abdallahmoussa19835 жыл бұрын
Hello bro. I just got the M50. I am not a pro. What setup you are using to shoot the M50? The manual? The auto? The special one for scenes? If the manual, can you share the details on how to set the settings? ISO and other stuff. I tried to take some shots last day using the basic lens that comes with the M50. I do not get sharp clear photos specially on an object moving.
@BillEricPhotography5 жыл бұрын
So I would say 95% of my shooting is in aperture priority or on a Canon it's cold AV mode this will let you control how much light you let into the lens. typically if you are trying to shoot a car and you want to freeze it in motion you're going to want a fast shutter speed like one five hundredths of a second or faster. I would go to the iso settings and put it on auto. Then make the aperture as open as possible so with the kit lens that would be something like 3.5. during the daytime you should have no problem shooting at a fast shutter speed with those settings. If it starts to get dark out you might see that the shutter speed is slowing down even in auto ISO. then you might want to shoot in manual mode set your shutter speed and your aperture and then the iso will adjust accordingly depending on the light. Hope that helps.

Hi!! Thank you for this review. I’ve been shopping around for a new camera. I’ve used canon point and shot up til now. Was wondering if this camera is good for action shots? Sports events, fireworks, a lot on motion and also low light? Thank you for any info.
@BillEricPhotography5 жыл бұрын
The camera is great but there are some limitations. For fireworks, there is no input for a cable release. You can trigger the camera through the app but it’s not the same. For sports and motion, it’s very good the autofocus is fast and accurate. For low light/high iso situations it’s more grainy than the DSLR’s at high iso (3200+).

Yes, the camera itself will be great for what you need. For product photography, the more important things are the lighting and the lenses. For lighting, definitely check out shooting tents or something similar, basically like a soft box that you put your products inside.

The Fuji is a great little camera. It really depends which lens system you are already invested in. If you have Canon glass already than the M50 makes sense if you are starting fresh I think either one would be good but you will always be inside of fuji's mirrorless system. if you buy Canon glass you can always jump into a bigger full frame DSLR if you want at some point.

We did, both of the adapters work as they should. It's just when you use the speed booster the focal length stays at around 50 mm. The regular Canon adapter makes it about 80mm.
@lunawroblewski5 жыл бұрын
@@BillEricPhotography wouldn't that have made the 50mm more comparable to the 85mm? I still loved the video, I'm just wondering if that might've helped give the 50 more bokeh

It's somewhere in that range I said 80 mm but it could be 85 that 1.6 crop factor is a little odd. You need to pull out a calculator to figure this stuff out!Nikon's 1.5 crop factor is a little easier to work with! 😆
@lunawroblewski5 жыл бұрын
@@BillEricPhotography it is 80mm on the 1.6 crop canon has. I'm just thinking that it would've been a closer comparison to use the speed booster with the 85 but the regular adapter on the 50 so they would be closer and the background might've compressed more at that focal length vs keeping it at 50

We used the speed booster on the 85 mm with the M 50, Keeping that focal length at about 85 mm.We use the regular adapter with the 50 mm on the M 50 making the crop factor focal length on that about 85 mm also.

I have the perfect experiment for you. I am just starting in professional photography. I bought a Canon EOS-M5 because I wanted to start with mirrorless, but, just starting the funds are limited. I am putting together my lens kit. Here are the lenses that I am looking to purchase, but there is a test that would appreciate it if you guys could help with. I believe you already have a set up that would be similar. New Canon EF-M 22mm f/2.0 STM Pancake Lens Tamron SP B005 17-50mm f/2.8 Di-II XR VC IF AF Lens TAMRON SP AF 28-75mm F2.8 XR Di LD MACRO A09 Tamron 70-210mm f4 Di VC USD Canon EF Zoom Lens Viltrox EF-EOS M2 0.71x Lens Mount Adapter - focal reducer The Viltrox is where I would love to see a test performed. because the M5 (or M50 as it’s basically the same) is an APS-C sensor. The Viltrox adapter/focal reducer will reduce the crop to 1.13 and add a stop of light. With the above selections, effectively I get 3 f/2.0 lenses and the 70-210 becomes an f2.8. It would be awesome to, not only, hear your thoughts on this, but super awesome if you did a video on a set up like this on an APS-C. To see your photo quality, and to know if this would be a good idea and a way to cheat to get high priced lens equivalents at super inexpensive prices. A kit to get started until I can pay for the real deal. Would love to know your thoughts.
@BillEricPhotography4 жыл бұрын
You definitely want the 22mm, and the 17-50 and 70-210 will cover all of your other needs. Don’t bother with the 28-75 there’s too much overlap with the wider zoom. And the Viltrox for sure, gives you lots of flexibility using the tamron lenses.
