Love your enthusiasm and love for this camera! Great job on the video man! When I wanted to move from my Canon AE1, which my father bought himself in the 80s and I still own, to a rangefinder camera, I wanted to get the Canon P. But a few years ago they were pretty hard to find in Germany and Europe. And if there was a decent one it was quite expensive with body only. I had to take a couple of more $ into my hand and went to Leica M system until today. I really love the rangefinder shooting experience, specifically on film. But I am sure the Canon P would also more then enough for my needs as an hobbist. Luckily Leica gear really hold their value and is quite easy to sell, since demand is always there. The M stuff I sold luckily always was able to make a small profit :) Keep up your great work!

I bought a Canon P about 4 months ago and it is amazing. So solid, reliable, and can still be found for a good price. The L39 mount has so many great lenses you can attach but my favorite is the 50mm f/1.4.
@surat4895Ай бұрын
I agree, the 50mm f/1.4 is a beautiful lens. The setup will last you a lifetime!

I have a Canon 7 and god are Canon rangefinders so slept on

Definitely check out the canon 7 nowadays with the rise in canon p's pricing. Since the canon 7 doesn't have the issue with displaying all of the possible frame lines at once it feels that much more fun to use

great video, Im currently debating on either this or the Canon 7.

Anecdotal advice from a stranger on the internet: if you're shooting 50mm, get the Canon P. Of all the cameras I've tried while looking for the perfect model for me, the Canon 7 is the only one that ever made me feel horribly self-conscious almost every time I brought it to my eye in the street. It's big, it's funny-looking, and I don't know why, but it's eye-catching in a way that I haven't found other silver/chrome cameras to be. It's just a great lummox of a device. Maybe in black it'd be fine, but for a black Canon 7 you really have to shell out. Just my own, no doubt idiosyncratic experience, but there you are!

Hey man, that's a nice video and fine pictures you've taken with your P! Gotta have one some day as well. You've inspired me to pick up my fully manual Zorki 4k rangefinder and throw in some expired Tri-X 400, thank you!

@@angrycyclop I’m very glad that you enjoyed the video brother! Enjoy shooting!📷

I've owed the Canon P for over 7 years. It's the only film rangefinder I own and shoot with. It's a much better deal than buying a Leica M2 or M3. That said, I shoot the Leica M digital system, the M10-R. I own three Canon LTM lenses, the 50mm f1.4, 50mm f1.8, and the 35mm f2.8. All GREAT lenses and I even shoot them on my digital M. Just another note on the Canon P, it was made for the masses and for photojournalists. It's the only camera from the late-1950's that's literally bullet proof.

@@d.idowuolutosin4250 I absolutely love the camera canon P for the bulletproof-ness you speak of! when i get a leica one day i can’t wait to use my 50mm 1.4 on it!
@FrankGrauStudioАй бұрын
My favorite as well. I think it’s the most beautiful rangefinder ever made. And every bit as well made as any Leica.
@surat4895Ай бұрын
I totally agree with you … I’ve always hated when people called this camera “A poor man’s leica” The camera has an amazing personality, and it has truly become one of my favorite cameras of all time
@FrankGrauStudioАй бұрын
@@surat4895 Well, it may be the "poor man's Leica" if that means that a lot of us can't afford to overspend on a camera. However, that title shouldn't be construed to mean that the P is in any way inferior to a Leica. Perhaps we can start a new trend and start referring to Leica's as "the prodigal man's Canon P".
@FrankGrauStudioАй бұрын
Not to dispute your claim, but from what I understood, the true black Canon P had a white dot on the lever of the self-timer.
@surat4895Ай бұрын
you are totally right! i may have been mistaken. nevertheless, the camera is still beautiful!

@@surat4895 Yes, even if it was painted, so what? It's still beautiful!

While there are several trivial errors in the video, the major error was that the P would mount Leica M-mount lenses. Like all Canon RF bodies, the P mounts Leica 39mm threaded lenses, the so-called L39. While L39 lenses can be adapted to work on M-mount bodies, the reverse is no so. M-mount lenses cannot be adapted to the L39 mount because they are much larger in diameter Users tend to either love or dislike the P. It is liked for its clean styling and simply, ergonomic controls. In the past, it was liked for its relatively low price, but that no longer applies, thanks to excessive hyping in YT and other social media. What used to routinely sell for $150, now averages $250-350. Its cons are its viewfinder, cluttered with framing for three lenses, and a shutter which, when it goes, will not be repaired.

i love mine as well (albeit not the sexy black one, which my f1 covers ig). i have the late 35mm f2 mkII from 1960. i recommend this as being the japanese 'summicron' to your 'summilux'
