I see many people are selling used versions of this printer on ebay so had doubts and came here to see. I hope other people who have/had this printer also comment on how long it lasted with them and whether if its Still working or not. Will really appreciate it.

Very nice review and the prints look great! As a hobby photographer this is a great choice due to the printsize and quality. Wish it had a grey cartridge for very nice black & white prints.

I need to buy my first replacement inks for the 6850 after the free inks with my machine ran out. I understand that the inks needed are numbered 550 and 551 however I've come across a grey ink with is also numbered 551 and this doesn't appear to be an ink that came with the printer originally but its sold for the same machine. Can anyone help?

Do you know if the the printer can handle 300g/m? I'll do fine art and digital drawing and thought it would be awesome if this one can handle thicker paper.

This printer will do 300g/m, says so on Canon site.

Are you still happy with the printer after 3 years? Can it print doublce-sided/duplex printing ? Is the front door automatically opening when printing starts or it has to be manually opened? Does it have a paper tray underneath ?

There is a similar (maybe older) printer with a slightly different name. That printer should be better for greyscale prints. Any idea which model nr this printer have? Is it the ip8750? Any other differencies? I was also thinking ot getting the S100 or S10, but mabye these are "overkill"? What you think?

How much is price per print/cost of ink used for an A3 full colour print considering also the lifespan of the printer?

Sorry can't help with that. I don't have the printer any more. It stopped working about 18 months later.

Roughly, inks cost £7.49 and allegedly prints 700 pages, but you have to consider most printing companies base that off only 5% of the page being covered in ink. To get 100% you'd have to multiply 5 by 20. Divide the 700 by 20 (As youd be using 20 times as much) and you get 35. So approx 35 sheets per set of cartridges. It doesn't state whether that's for A4 or A3 though. Probably looking at 17 A3 prints and 35 A4 imo. Using that it would work out at 22p a full A4 print and 44p A3. But not including printer wear electricity etc.

Am I the only one noticing you did a mistake in model number? The printer is ix6850 and your title and description is ix6580? Is it intentionally or a mistake?

Dear ianhrp, I'm trying to understand what's the difference between this and the pixma ip8750 besides the extra ink cartige and the cd print option will the ip8750 have better qualitty print because of the extra ink cartige..? at the canon site they call the ip8750 "photo printer" and the ix6580 "good quality image printer" lol thanks!

+Russell Webb hi yep I am using third party ones at the moment. 3 sets of all colours for under £20 on Amazon no issues at all. The same quality results.

What was your workflow for printing these? I've got the same printer but can't get my prints to match what's on my monitor at all. My monitor is calibrated and i'm trying to print from lightroom. It's especially bad in black and white if i print in normal RGB spectrum they come out with a magenta cast if i print in gray scale there's absolutely no detail in the shadows.
